So i jsut bought L4D2 on steam and im new to the whole steam thing. I can't get into the armageddon chat room to ask for invite. anyway someone can send me one? Im Crovaxan on steam.
EDIT: thnx for the invite! the little window came out of no where and freaked me out.
there's one thing you can try out and that is run cmd (windows button+r, cmd)
and ping your gateway like this
ping 192.168.1.1 -t
(if that's your gateway)
what it'll do is keep pinging your gateway indefinitely (if you want the output saved to a file instead try >> file.txt at the end
if your ping changes to 3 digits every x minutes it's what I fear what it is and that's windows tries to look for better wireless networks every x minutes - causing all your games to freeze up for a second or two.
I think it's called Wireless zero configuration which needs to be disabled or some sorts. I remember back when I had vista I used different set of drivers (those of XP) for my network device to disable wlan autoconfig
I had the spike ~every minute though
some things on the web I found
NOTE: The following procedures are specifically for XP, but Vista and Win7 should be similar, adjust as necessary.
Go to Start->Run, type "ncpa.cpl", and hit enter.
Locate your wireless adapter, right click, and select Properties.
Select Wireless Networks tab, then select Advanced.
Make sure "Access point (infrastructure) networks only" is selected, and "Automatically connect to non-preferred networks' is NOT checked.
One local possibility is WPA/WP2 key renewal. The pre-shared key is only used during initialization of the wireless connection. It’s periodically changed, but that's usually about every 3600 seconds (1 hr). But it's possible a truly paranoid wireless router could be doing this over much shorter periods, even every 60 seconds (insane).
In all honesty, this seems a very remote possibility. But it's at least possible. See if your router's wireless setup has a field called "Key Renewal Interval" (or similar), check the value (note, many routers will not display and/or allow changes, so don't be surprised if you don't find it).
Of course, one way to confirm it is WPA/WPA2 key renewal is to temporarily disable wireless security. If the problem goes away, that’s probably the problem.
You could also temporarily switch to wire and see if it stops or continues. If it stops, the problem is obviously local and wireless. If it continues, the problem likely lies upstream.
Btw, make sure you always broadcast your SSID. When the SSID is disabled (a worthless security measure anyway), Windows has a tendency to wander (seeking greener wireless pastures). Think of it as an “uncommitted relationship” between the wireless client and router.
Haha, just played a random 4am quick match and got Sacrifice. Nobody else playing had done it before so I was leading. Get to the final event and they're just standing on the bridge so I'm like, "welp, off I go." Jump down.. and fall damage kills me. They don't realize someone has to go down to hit the gen and lose.

I actually just got the game and haven't really read this thread, so I was sorta blindsided. I really should have guessed, pickup games with the general public and all, but I don't think I could possibly have seen that coming. I mean, the game starts and all 3 other people pretty much immediately blaze a trail in completely opposite directions, get shitstomped when the first unique finds them, and leave the game.
As a guy who likes realism mode, you're crazy! Adv. Realism straddles that line between 'pretty damn easy' and 'Oh god never want to play expert mode ever' super well.

It's pretty perfect. Feels kinda cheap now to see outlines of teammates. I still remember L4D2 launch and trying it on Dead Center for the first time. Splitting up, getting lost, and the complete sense of loneliness and gloom when you can't find your teammates.
I couldn't find you. You might be better off going into the Armadeaddon chat and asking there (which is what I would recommend to anyone looking for an invite, actually).

The unfortunate reality is that random people on the net don't understand working together, they treat it like every other FPS (and even most other co-op FPS's) in that everyone runs around trying to score the most points, you have 1337 skillz so of course you don't coordinate with these other jerks. They won't listen to what you tell them to do (you're l33test, they'd follow you if they weren't so dumb) and they'll only steal your kills.
And this is why "Normal" setting is as easy as it is.

but you don't need teamwork!
I recently discovered that you can punch jockeys and hunters out of their pounce/lunge. smokers can be killed in a 2 second window when they grab you, just make sure you have a high damage weapon. you can solo it all!!

There's actually an achievement for the first time you knock a hunter out of its pounce animation. "Hunter Punter" I think.
EDIT: "Dead Stop" is the one I'm thinking of. Although I think you can only get it in L4D1.

Sure, those things exist.
good luck actually completing those escapes mid game when you're surrounded by 20 zombies, or covered in vomit and unable to hear the oncoming specials, or distracted by conversation, or shear surprise of "omg, he's HERE"
also there really is not "high dmg weapon" just split second accuracy.
Jaysis. I dunno if we're just rusty or what, but the finale for the first L4D2 campaign destroys us on advanced. we had to bump it down to normal to finish.
Well after a while you know how to get to the cans better (there's two stairs, one goes to second floor, the other to third. There's an option of going from third to second by breaking down the glass floor near the top of the stairs).
Not sure what's best in campaign but 2-2 might work fine. 2 players going up covering each other and 2 by the car picking up the dropped cans and fueling them in.
2 friends and I actually had a funny experience with that finale on Advanced. We decided to do the 2-2 thing, with one guy and myself getting cans and throwing them, and the last guy staying by the car with the bot.
We got to 8/13 before getting wiped by a tank. Tried the same thing again, and didn't even get that far.
Then we just decided to scrap the plan and just run around like headless chickens, which actually worked, although we lost one guy and the bot right after the car was filled (they were incapped right next to the car, but the end cutscene played in the midst of reviving them.) The stairs were the main issue, I think, since a lot of the time was spent going up a stair, realising "oh nuts, this doesn't lead to those cans", and getting screwed over while backtracking.
First up, my apologies to those I played L4D2 Versus with earlier... I know, I totally suck.
However, thanks for the good game, really enjoyed it and a good first experience with online play.
The Spitter is awesome.
You were fine, versus is completely different than campaign and takes a lot of getting used to. If you enjoyed that game you'll love the games in the future. That was nothing.
And yes, spitter is awesome.

The main difficulties in vs are: 1) the infected team coordinates way better than AI infected does and 2) the Infected are hard to get a grip on because you don't spend enough time working with a single class, you constantly are shifting classes and spawning techniques etc so if you are completely new to the game or to vs its rather overwhelming.
But just keep playing and listen to the people who know what they're talking about and you'll be fine
Was playing Taaaanks! with Endaro, Mandalore and a pub on our team earlier on Dark Carnival.
Long story short, Endaro, being not in the Midnight Riders and lacking that extra bit of awesome got himself downed, as usual, and somehow Mandalore and myself made it to the roller coaster. Mandalore went down sometime during it (probably due to being a drunk) and I had a tank on fire right on my heels as I rounded one of the turns before a downhill ramp. Two tanks were coming up the ramp to cut off my escape. I braced myself for the inevitable sandwich that was coming and the tank behind me swung out and sent me flying over the other two tanks.
Pop the pills and kept running with the two tanks now chasing me and the tank on fire had went elsewhere. As I reach the end of the coaster the tank on fire appeared up an infected ladder cutting off my escape to the safe room. Luckily, a half clip took the few remaining health points he had and I made it to the safe room. Pretty sad I didn't have a demo going on that round...

I despise you.
I got stuck on the drop down hole . By the time I wiggled through there were common infected and a tank right on me. Sad day.
Wife and I were playing Taaaaank! last night on 360. It was awesome because every time we played as the Tanks, we spawned behind the group of survivors and had to play catch. Every time we played as survivors, they spawned AHEAD of us and were easily able to wipe us all out.

Every. Single. Round.
Yep, that was awesome. :P
That (and bugged tanks spawning inside objects) is my least favorite part of that mutation. Probably pretty good drunk though...
That seemed to happen for me as well, when we were the tanks, we had to chase the other team, but when the roles reversed, they always were enough ahead of us that they could just block one of the doorways. The one good thing about it is the fact that nobody takes it too seriously.

Looks like it'll only be about 4 minutes tho, whew.

Yes, this.
And it make racing something of a challenge.
Eh, you'll get attached, if you ever want to play versus with Armadeaddon:P
Seriously. While I don't really care one way or the other about Realism campaign, Realism VS fixes almost everything that was wrong with regular VS.
