I just grabbed Burning Crusade, and while WoW ran poorly, Burning Crusade just blue screens every 15 minutes. Because of this, and a desire to play Company of Heroes, I am in the market for a new computer. I plan on buying the parts and building myself, and I do not need a monitor, hard drive, sound card, or KBAM. So any help you can give me towards a new computer (I've heard good things about the Intel Core 2 Duo) would be great.
Basic C2D mobo + E6400 + 7600gt + 1 gig of DDR2 ram will do you very nicely without totally busting the bank. If you so desier, wait till march and grab an 8600gt card, which is about $160 but is DX10. Brand choice is yours, imo, but I would go with newegg.com and go from coments.

I always use Newegg, ever since ordering 2 memory sticks from there I've respected the way they do business. If I go through with it, I think I would want to be able to run every thing at full settings, so I'm probably looking at an 8600GT, 2 gigs of DDR2 RAM, and that CPU. Any recommendations on cases, and what would I need for power supplies or cooling?
That C2D processor is cool and quite bye itself. And I would just grab the Antec Sonatta 2 case which comes with a decent enough PSU and will be able to handle the 8600gt. 2 sticks of DDR2 ram is kind of overkill since each gig right about now goes for $140.
I have a few friends with older computers who run their PC open case with a fan pointed into it, would that work with this setup or should I invest in some PC fans.

There are two things that I see wrong here. First you will want a stronger power supply. Probably 600W, so that it will last. Antec is a great brand for both the case and the power supply. Second you might as well get a DX10 card. If you get a DX9 one now, you will just want to upgrade later this year.
But all in all good gaming. We will have to get a GAME ON for Supreme Commander and you will surely be able to join with that machine.

I'm on a limited budget (6.50 an hour job in high school), and I can't think of any specific reason at the moment to get a DX10 card. Will DX10 be needed for Vista, or just games in the next few years? If you can point out an affordable card that works well with all the games I have now (mainly just Burning Crusade), then I'd love that advice. If I'm going with a stronger power supply, any chance you could recommend another case and power supply seperate that would work well for my needs. I'm trying to keep this under 1000 with shipping.

There isn't any affordable DX10 cards yet, and the one your getting is pretty good, so you'll still be able to play all the games coming out for, most likely, the next two years, until some come out that are DX10 only. Even then it's only going to be the blockbusters. You just won't be able to use DX10 on all the DX9/10 games, but theres really no problem with that.
On the power supply, I would say that any antec power supply is good. www.tomshardware.com is a great site for hardware. If you have any questions about a specific piece of hardware it is most likely on there. Feel free to keep asking here too, but you can be sure to get well tested info there. They also have round ups of video cards/montiors/etc. which I use when looking for a part as you can compare all of the recent pieces of hardware in that category.
