In general, if you're a dps class expecting not to fail you should practically always scoop up a mejai's or a SotO. They're such good value for money once you've got a few kills.

EDIT: Rak, it's also worth mentioning that waiting for judgement when chasing is often better than autoattacking. You have to stop to autoattack, but you can just slide into people with judgement.

Also, the speed from decisive strike should always be considered just before judgement.

thanks for the heads up brah.

    Give up. Garren sucks.

You spelled him with 2 rrs so I know ur a weinerrrrrrrrr.

He can't be any worse than Tryndamere, plus he looks badass so I'm giving him a shot.

That's setting the bar pretty low, however. I find however that build order for big items such as frozen mallet and Force of Nature is pretty futile. You should adjust for how your team is built vs. what the other team is doing. If you're surviving team fights with low health, go FoN first, if you're focused down quickly, go with the +health that comes with building towards the frozen mallet.

Your entire existance as Garen is to piss off the opposing team as much as possible so they focus on you. Sunfirecapes/Force of Nature is the way to go beyond Level 3 boots. Get Speed runes, and as soon as a team fight starts, focus on their squishies. If you're busy bombing the soft targets and setting them on fire (Or dicing them.) their team will focus on you. Early game you should be scoring a few kills with execute. The more they focus on you, the more your team can do to them. With a sunfire/FoN as Garen you are nigh indestrucible at level 18. It also helps to have a healer in the team to increase this, take a look at my profile to see how well it works, Melksters too.

If you're not tanking as Garen, you should grab the ghost-blade, and if you need health, I cannot reccomend a phage or frozen mallet enough. Both should help you slow down the opposition enough to keep them scared, AND give you enough health to take some heavy fire (plus a little damage.)

Garen is not a tank! I mean you can... but you don't really want to. Also frozen mallet doesn't work with your spinning attack, it might work with your Q ability, I can't remember. Take exhaust to slow your enemy down.

The key is to hit Q then E fast enough that you don't use an attack and waste the effects from Q. It's amazing to spin into someone quickly then as soon as it ends see him do his silence attack to screw the person even more. Then you Judgement.

Garen is a damage dealer and besides his 30% reduced dmg for a few seconds every 30 sec he's not a great tank. Get something to help you stay alive a little longer but go for dmg first.

And get the Ghostblade first!!! Look at the stats and look at what's important to Garen. More dmg? Check. Lower cooldowns? Check. The ability to run faster and attack faster? Check.

I'm not against getting one item that gives you some survivability but you don't want to focus on them.

Brutaliser is much better. As was said above, judgement doesn't proc on-hit effects, but 20 early armour pen and cooldown reduction for a character which is only limited by cooldowns? AND attack damage?

Tank Garen is an amazing character. I've had so much success with it. You can really turn a battle by just running in and using judgement to take down squishes and scare the opposing team. Between his silence (Any caster hit by his silence is instantly boned and usually runs like hell, while being torn down in a whirlwind of blades.) and judgement, he is a viable tank with sunfire capes. You are a walking AoE machine, opposing team has AP? Toss in a FoN and not only will you move faster, you regen health at an INSANE rate coupled with his passive. You almost never have to spend an extended amount of time out of battle. With FoN you regen .85% health per second with his passive active, +40 and your Runes/Natural health Regen per/5 - AND you nearly have 200 armor/MR and 3k health.

This argument would be more compelling if it wasn't for the fact that the outcome of the game also depends on 9 other people. Its like saying that a pitcher must be awesome because he's won x games with no mention of who the opponent is or how much run support the pitcher got.

    It's evidence.

You add it to the other evidence, and it points to the more correct answer.

    What's the other evidence?

    - Sunfire Garen does more damage in team fights than any other Garen, including dps Garen.
    - Sunfire Garen is a better tank than any other type of Garen. Tank Garen with other items is much less of a threat, and if you're not making them attack you as Garen you're not helping as much.
    - Damage items only increase the potency of ONE of your abilities (Judgment). Yes, it does increase it by a substantial amount, but if you're looking at this in terms of pure value-gained-per-gold-spent, Sunfire Garen is money better spent. Your ultimate still does the same amount of damage, your damage shield prevents the same amount of damage, and your silence still silences for the same amount of time. And hell, as I said in number one, you will do far more damage as Sunfire Garen than even if you went for Ghostblade and Infinity Edge (as I used to do in ages past).

What I was saying is that its highly unreliable evidence (the wins part). Your following arguments are much more persuasive than saying you won 12 games in a row (I assume solo queue?). I'm not saying I agree with you either way. I've never tried Garen, and I've never paid close attention to the Garen's I've gone up against, since I can't remember a time where we had to focus on Garen, so I'm in no position to judge.

I like the part where I had to use the code to login and when I try to play a game it will only give me the option to queue for 3v3. Clearly their servers are being crushed by the hormonal rush of people trying to acquire Red Card Katarina. Because every soccer ref I've seen wears stockings.

Wait? It's out now? Gotta go log in and buy.

    Bought! :P

Imo... they need to throw up Vuvuzela Teemo and Zidane Alistar. Make them legendary for all I care. Little Vuvuzela sound every time Teemo blinding darts.
