I love all the different ways they did artillery in that game.
You had:
- Off-map artillery that could be used anywhere on the map
- Decoy artillery that would put down the smoke signals but wouldn't actually call it - a potent psychological weapon against your enemy.
- Stationary on-map artillery units that gained levels and accuracy as time went on - and could fire across the map (Howitzer!)
- Mobile artillery units that also gained levels and accuracy as time went on - but had a smaller range (Calliope!)
- Mortar squads with an even smaller range
The variety of siege abilities in that game was fun and impressive and amazing.

I actually went 'holy shit' the first time I saw a howitzer shell explode.
So at least some of the servers are actually up. If I just continue to try, it eventually lets me log on. I can't do ladder games, and there are very few custom games available, and there's basically nobody on, and the game I just played lagged a ton, and I got dropped 5 minutes in, but I can play! ...but maybe I should wait.

Crazy: the replay viewer tells me that a 'very hard' protoss AI sustains an average of 600 APM over a twenty minute game on Steppes of War, and commonly during combat stays at around 1100-1200 APM. Question 1: how does one individuate AI APM? Question 2: it was macroing really well, but man, what is it /doing/ with all of that?

Seems that it took out all the unwritten patch notes from last patch.
Except that NP is now down to 12 seconds.
So basically, Terran and 'Toss got a bit of a buff. Incidentally, I have lost like, every goddamn match since the patch, not even to a particular strategy or anything, just straight up got out-macroed.

Apparently, according to TeamLiquid, this has happened with like, every patch, where they update the game and then the servers.
I don't think I've ever had the misfortune to try logging on right when something like this happens.
