Well, I finally took the plunge. I picked up an Intel X25-V 40GB over the weekend on a sweet Newegg deal ($99.99 free s/h). I also grabbed another mouse (I was migrating my desktop mouse to/from my backpack for work trips) and a pack of RAM (G.Skill 2*1GB DDR2 1066).
My second copy of Win7 Pro will finally get to see the light of day.
According to the fairly outdated info I have on my motherboard (Asus P5Q Deluxe), I won't be able to run my RAM in dual channel due to the fact I've got a 2*2GB (G.Skill DDR 2 1066) set in it already. I'm hoping, though, that since both sets are dual channel, a BIOS flash will let them both run in dual channel.
Not that it really matters to me. I don't run anything bleeding edge on my computer; and if it's fairly advanced, I expect either my CPU (e8400) or my 5850 to be the bottleneck before my RAM. In any event, this will give me 6GB for Win7, which I'm happy with.
Ok, question: does anyone have any experience with something simiar regarding the RAM? (being able to run dual channel) Is it worth RMAing the pack that comes in or just say, "screw it?"
