Did you really just do the "beautiful woman is totally not beautiful enough for me" thing and throw in the "cool" emoticon?

No! That's a bad, adytum! No treat for you!

Look, I could totally see how someone could call her "hot" (though I would say moderately attractive) based on the first photograph in that series, which is from a professional photo shoot and where she is professionally made up and wearing lingerie.

So much for what a "normal" person can do without airbrushing.

The rest of the photos? Not so much. Did anyone even look at those?

Alright, I feel like we've crossed a sexist threshold here.

(at least my comment was empowering!)

Moving on, I wish I could have hung out with one of these spies. What would it be like to be the lamest spy? I feel like, if I were one of these people, I would let people in on the secret every now and then if I got bored.

So they basically just lost 11 of their agents and tons of money for what? The incompetent ones here aren't the agents, it's whatever person hatched this plan. When you're risking your people make sure you're risking them for something good. There was very little chance they could actually succeed in their objective and what if they did, what could they possibly gain from knowing our chatter on Iran?

    So stupid.

I'm still not really sure what these spies were supposed to be doing for Mother Russia. It's not like they were breaking into the CIA and stealing secrets.

Most of the stuff Russia seemed to want these people to do (influence policymakers, keep an ear out for American foreign policy on Iran etc.) could have been done legally by a lobbyist or public relations firm.

This whole thing strikes me as an attempt by some aging spook to justify his covert ops budget.

Because for 10 years they utterly failed to gather any useful intelligence, or place themselves in a position to do so? Another NYT article quotes a CIA officer or something remarking "Why didn't they just use the Internet?"

It's possible that they were here more for what they might need to do than for what they were doing at the time. Establishing a long history makes it easier to sneak around than showing up on a plane one day with a fake ID a week before your mission.

Do we have like detailed reports of exactly what information they got and sent back?

There's no telling what they sent off in this case.

Hooooold on. It didn't take us 7 years to "catch them." We waited 7 years to catch them. They were being closely monitored by the FBI for 7 years and presumably could have been caught at any time.

I imagine the feds were waiting for them to do something even remotely dangerous and were watching almost out of bored curiosity in the meantime.

They aren't being charged with espionage, which means they didn't actually get any good secrets. Unless that's what they WANT you to think...
