It stands for League of Extraordinary Dancers. Its about people who have dancing super powers. Yep. Its goddamn hilariously bad. Its the Best worst new show! I highly recommend watching it.
I'm starting to see just how much work I've got cut out for me when it comes to putting my fiance through the geek initiation process. The sheer number of great films that she has never seen just boggles my mind. First it was the original Star Wars trilogy. Then it was the entire James Bond series.
Now -- I just found out -- it's Predator.
PREDATOR!!!
That's it, I have to stop at Best Buy after work today to pick up the original on Blu-Ray. I cannot accept the fact that my future wife has never understood the significance behind "GET TO DE CHOPPAH!!!" and "DO EET NOWWWW," which my brother and I say all the time when playing Left 4 Dead with her. When I mentioned this to her, she went "Oh, that's from that movie? I never knew."
:x:x:x:x
I wouldn't get either Blu-ray version. They both suck for different reasons.
But even worse, the Ultimate Hunter Edition has been DNRed to death, and looks HORRIBLE. They even brightened up some of the scenes so they can "look better". It's disgusting. http://www.thedigitalbits.com/mytwocentsa181.html#063010b
If you have to get either, get the original release. It will be cheaper and at least close to the filmmakers original intent.
No, they just suck. See post 727 in this thread. It makes me so mad I could break a pencil! Or spit! Or not buy the Blu-rays! That'll fix their little red wagon!

I'm too lazy to do that. You should have just quoted that post for me. Then I probably would have read it instead. =\
Although, I think I have some kind of sick mind, because every piece of horror media I've ever been exposed to has failed to legitimately creep me out (I'm not talking about "boo" or suspense horrors, I mean psychological or shock horrors). Uzumaki was recommended by a friend who had to stop reading every few chapters because she couldn't take it. I mean, its WEIRD as fuck, but iunno.
Every horror movie that people hype up to me usually falls flat on it's face because I end up logically picking it apart to the point where it isnt scary anymore.
Case in point:
The Human Centipede. Ok, its kinda gross, but the evil doctor was a fucking idiot. By his logic, plugging the exhaust pipe of a car into the gas tank of anther car makes both cars run. Dr. should have grafted the GI tract of the first guy through the other two so it actually supplied nutrition, rather than... you know... exhaust.
I think I have problems emotionally empathizing with characters.
Too much of my brain is stuck in that 8 yr old mindset of "OOO a bug! hows that work! coooooooool!" *pokes with stick*

Yeah, i know what you mean, Gibs. I pretty much feel the same way. Only when I do get creeped out, which is very, very seldom, I really get off on it. I love that feeling. I really want that creepy feeling, but it never seems to happen for me.
I've been wanting to see The Human Centipede since it started hitting the movie festivals a year and a half - a couple years ago. The opportunity hasn't presented itself to me to watch it though. Netflix hasn't even made it available yet.
When it comes to most things, but particularly movies, I make it a point to never pump myself up because odds are that I'll only be that much more disappointed. I prefer to be neutral going into a film, that way if it turns out to actually be good, or even great, it's like an extra little treat. It also prevents me from being really disappointed when it goes down south.
I think it has alot to do with the fact that concepts I find scary, don't really translate into a visual media.
A recent novel I read had an alien world with reality bending geometry. Like hexagonal floor tiles that had angles that added up to more than 360 degrees.
Though with the progress of 3d technology, I think they could pull of some pretty awesome optical illusions if they really tried though.
So the new releases suck because they cleared up all the dust and grain off the original and have more saturated colors plus look 10 times sharper? Sure they could have left it to retain the gritty feel of the original, but then everyone woulda bitched about that instead.
OOooh I am so pissed!!
The only thing that seems odd is upping the brightness for an occasional scene, but really I could settle for that considering the other improvements.
I tend to find the creep out, torture porn style movies don't really do anything at all for me. It's not so much an empathy thing as much as the movie lacks any real development to provide for it.
I recently saw the collector, my brother borrowed it from a friend.
It was one of those movies that I just couldn't watch because it made so little sense as to be more an annoyance than frightening or gross.
I have problems with most horror movies because usually the entire plot is moved forward by sheer character stupidity. I can't STAND that shit. Write some intelligent plot mechanics goddammit, not just "Character A was scared and accidentally pressed the button that released the deadly virus, dooming the planet. FEEL EMOTION FOR CHARACTER A!"
I've never actually seen a horror film. It's not because I'm afraid or anything, I just don't feel like they'd be worth watching.
The closest thing I've ever gotten to a horror film would be alien, that night I slept with my toy sci-fi pistol (with all those neat sounds) in my bed (ready to blast the motherfucker to pieces). Other than that I've only seen that short film with the hair in the sink, which turns out to be a guy...
One of my favourite directors is Eli Roth of Hostel and Cabin Fever fame and you all can suck it, prettymuch
edit: For good horror movies, please see:
Rose Red (Best haunted house movie, but its like six hours, again, you can suck it)
rosemarys baby
Hostel
Who can kill a child <-- excellent
Audition.... Please be prepared to push the stop button :I

I dunno, I find that most movies look kind of shitty when rendered at HD levels, especially if the TV has the unfortunate quirk of running at a high frame rate, which makes everything seem like it's on fast forward.
I was watching Rise of the Silver Surfer on an HDTV last week, and not only was all of the makeup really obvious, but the CG just absolutely stood out, even more so than usual. Basically it made an already shitty movie 10 times worse.
I didn't really like The Orphanage. It was actually one of the few movies I've walked out on.
To be fair, I was told many times that it was super original and didn't rely on jump scares and so on, so I was pretty disappointed when the exact opposite turned out to be true.
I mean, the whole thing is just insanely predictable. Or at least everything up to the end is insanely predictable and boring. I've read about the ending, and I'll admit it seemed much more interesting than the rest of the film, but I don't believe it would have been good enough a twist to tolerate another solid hour of clichéd bullshit.
As for horror films that are actually good:
The Shining - really, really solid.
Alien - Excellent atmosphere and effects.
The Omen - Spoooooky!
and Event Horizon, which is one of my favourites and all kinds of fucked up.
I watched one of the best films I've seen in a long while the other night. "Unthinkable" with Samuel Jackson.
The basic plot is how far interrogation should go. This movie is intense and violent. I read that it went straight to video because the studio decided the average viewer wouldn't want to see American interrogators portrayed in this way.
My opinion? If you have a terrorist in a room that has hidden three nuclear bombs in major cities that are timed to go off in 3 days, there is no Geneva Convention.

Its movies like Hostel that just don't interest me at all. "Torture porn" accusations aside, I just don't feel much substantive value. The gross out, snuff aspect just doesn't cut it for me.

If you've got a terrorist in a room who's hidden three nuclear bombs in major cities, you've got a terrorist in a room who's almost certainly not susceptible to any kind of torture that would make him spill his guts.
And torture is a completely unreliable form of interrogation, anyway, especially if you want completely new information.
That's kind of a bullshit opinion you have there, man.
It's not one life against millions, you haven't read my post properly. It'd likely just be one life, plus those millions in almost any eventuality since torture is not even close to being a reliable way to get any kind of information out of anyone, and someone motivated enough to actually try and nuke a bunch of cities would certainly be the type of person against whom torture would be especially useless sicne they'd either resist, kill themselves or intentionally mislead their interrogators.
EDIT: By the way, this is assuming that terrorists operate according to bullshit movie logic, instead of real world logic where an operation like that would not be centralized in any way, making the torture of any one person involved in it completely irrelevant and useless anyway.
I'm interested to know the sort of tortures they portray in the movie.
because like pretty much any violent or horror movie, reality has much worse things.
NSF uh... decent people.
Step 1: Fill bucket with water. Contaminate water with detergent, human waste, whatever's laying about.
Step 2: Get cronies to hold victim down and use a funnel to force 'water' into their throat. Do so until they "fill up"
Step 3: Compress victim's stomach (via boot) so they expell all the 'water'.
Step 4: Repeat from step 1 (protip: refill bucket with step 3)
And yeah, torture, not so great at getting info out, or telling you if said info is reliable. Psychological interrogation works just as well, albeit a little longer.
And if someone is so far off the deepend (like a nukehappy terrorisit), theyre likely pretty resistant.
All of the points that Spec makes are addressed in the film, particularly the reliability of info gained from torture and what options are available that will work in a short time period. I don't see the movie as exploitive, but it is shocking. It is not a low budget gore-fest, but a well written and very intense movie. The scenes are graphic but it's more the "holy shit, did he just really do that?!" kind of movie.

Guh. I was about to post but I heard this odd pattering sound. Sort of rhythmic.
There was a fairly large amount of water coming through the ceiling in the bathroom. The maintenance guy is trying to find out whats happening very very quickly.
Wasser, I just went through that myself. A leaky pipe with a tiny pinhole. I tried several do-it-yourself kits but I ended up having to have a plumber cut the section out and replace it.

Also I needs more people to post in the photo thread because I'm bored.
As in the Ito Junji manga? Because if so, then I completely agree.
