Sonic the Hedgehog movie in pre-production.

The film is slated to be done completely in CGI (similar to the fast approaching turtles movie), and based off of the old SatAM cartoons.

With a studio on the project now and the likely green light from SEGA, it is likely that the project will go ahead and we will see the film in years to come. While the writers have been understandably mum on specific details, SONIC NEWS can confirm that they intend to emulate the art style of the original SatAM series in the film. UPDATE: New information indicates the film will be CGI Animation and not an emulation of the original SatAM animation.

With the release of the original series on DVD fast approaching, this could not came at a better time for SatAM fans who have been legion since the show’s abrupt end in 1995.

It's highly unlikely to go any further. I'm vaguely acquainted with the guy behind this (I am a sort of fringes hanger-on member of the sonic fan community, and he used to be an active member of a community I know) and, frankly, while a likeably enthusiastic guy, the last time he got a sonic movie greenlit (last year) apparantly turned into a complete mess.

I know people who no more about this, but suffice it to say- I've talked to the guy, and I doubt his ability to follow this one through.

Speaking of which, I really hope they dont try to make this ridiculously complicated like the Archie Sonic comic, which uses SaTAM characters. That just got way too confusing.

I'll try to keep open-minded, but I said the same thing about Shadow the Hedgehog and Sonic 360, and both of those disappointed me greatly.

The fact that they chose SaTAM shows that at least the writers know to work from one of the more fleshed out, better universes which is a good sign instead of them simply grabbing a recent Sonic game and working from the events of that.

Yes, yes they are. You know when you used to like Chip and Dale Rescue Rangers, then you do an image search of Chip and Dale Rescue Rangers only to get Gadget, Chip, and Zipper experimenting with inflation {don't look that up} and homo-erotic bestiality? It's kinda like that, just with less animal cock. If you go by the cartoon and recent games and not the internet, anyways.

You just can't get rid of that in the back of your mind, and when ever I see Sonic anymore I want him to run uncontrollably off a narrow ledge like he made me do so many times in the last few years.

SatAM was quality. If this is based on that, it might end up being quality as well.

Seriously, the two-parter where they went back in time, that was some dark stuff for a children's cartoon based on a video game that barely had a story.
