I have a question for non-color vision deficient folks...
I got around a ~100 on the test above, and the problem areas were spread out all along the color spectrum.
Now, when I look at that color spectrum above - and every color spectrum for that matter - I don't see a smooth transition from red to yellow to green, etc. Some of it is smooth, but a few bands of color seem to stick out like they don't belong there. For example, there's a dark band of color that stands out to me in between yellow and red on the left. There's a bunch of bands that stand out and don't look correct over in the blues and purples. In other words, when I look at that color spectrum above, it looks like someone ordered the colors wrong.
For those people who see perfect color vision, do you see those bands that stick out like they don't belong? Or, to you, does it look like a totally seamless transition from one color to the next with nothing 'sticking out'?
Okay, I added a meager list of games to the OP. Cyan means the game is specifically designed around helping colorblind people and does so. Yellow means they tried but had to make some other sacrifices to get it to work right (currently, WoW is the only one I can think of). Red means fuck you game, we're specifically calling you out because you suck for colorblind people.
If you want me to add games to the OP, do the following:
Along with a description of why it belongs there in that category, if applicable.
I might still catch your post asking to put a game in the OP if you don't follow the above format, and if that happens I won't be a little bitch and make you repost it, but pleeeease try to use this so it will catch my eye. It will make things easier for me and for you.
I know I missed things in this thread so I'll give it a quick glance through again, but from here on out I'll be looking for those cyan, yellow and red tags.

how about red, maroon, and pink tags? I think those stand out more, josh

I think Borderlands might be colorblind friendly, since there's a black border around everything, weapons you pick up are ranked by rarity (but also by color and that might be a problem spot), and there's nothing that I've seen that's color context-sensitive besides weapon rarity which is less important than weapon abilities
But yeah, Borderlands is definitely one of the weird ones. Weapons are the most improtant thing and if you can't see the difference between a green and red then you're somewhat buggered. Thankfully though your inventory lists them down as the most rare/powerful at the top. Still don't want to definitively call it either way though.
I guess this image is a good example of the menu screen.
In game you get stuff like this;
Alright that's overkill, but you do get weapon drops where the highlights for those drops can be red/green/orange/purple/blue. Might be a pain determining what rarity you want.

Rent and I tease each other all the time
Anyway, I'm going to change Borderlands to Yellow. It's difficult to tell at a glance what weapon rarities are, but they are sorted by rarity in your inventory and stats are really the most important thing. Additionally, the game itself isn't difficult for colorblind people. Enemies and items stick out pretty well, which is what I think Rent was going for.
The other thing about Borderlands is that everything is written out and even those of us who don't have trouble with colours end up reading the actual descriptions. Just because a weapon is of a higher rarity than another doesn't mean it'll actually be better. Honestly, more I think about it the more it seems like a great game for colourblind individuals.
I'll still leave it at Yellow. It occurs to me that there are situations when you might go for a weapon in a dangerous situation when you mistake its rarity, only to die for a common drop.
As a heads up it's been a good while since I've played Borderlands so I could be completely off about this.
In Bordelands rarity works more based on level than actual rareness of the weapon. As in you don't always find a ton of commons and very few rares. The higher level you are the more rares you'll find and the less more common weapons. So in that way rarity is more a function of what level you're at and not so much the actual abundance of that type of weapon.
In that way you're not super likely to be screwed by a weapon drop thinking it's a high rarity one and it's really very common.
Of course this is all based on hazy memory so I could be wrong.

I switched out a green for a white recently because the abilities were more useful to my build
I mean at a quick glance higher color is (generally) better but not always
So I guess the XBLA version of Perfect Dark is colorblind friendly as well, right? I mean, they would have had to actively change that.

I pretty much ignored the whole color coding in Borderlands. Just read the stats and effects. Sometimes there would be a green drop better than an orange for my needs.
Earth Defense Force on the 360 and the minimap. Tiny red and green dots? How about I just run around randomly for an hour each mission cause I can't figure out if thats a health pack or a giant god damned alien.
The minimap in Harvest: Massive Encounter. Tiny, one pixel red dots close in on you on a green back ground. Yeah, that ain't happening.
I don't recall having many issues with Metal Gear Solid 4, but then again I plodded along at the slowest pace ever in that game. More than the color issues, the fixed camera (in the version I played) screwed me over pretty hard. I did eventually acquire the version with the over the shoulder camera, but I never got around to trying it.
I have some SERIOUS issues in many board games however. Race for the Galaxy can be difficult with the green/brown resources. Played Bang! the other night, and could not tell the instant play from the delayed play cards for the life of me. They were well played (ie: faded) and the green/tan colors did NOT go well for me. Evo is another one where I literally cannot tell in my dinos are on a green or brown space. They have plants on them, but with my token on top of them, I can't tell, so I'd constantly be going around the entire board peeking under pieces like a retard. Having just got Battles of Westeros, I can't tell what color the morale track is in half the time. And oh god, Jungle Speed. When that game switches from symbol matching to color matching I just sit back and wait to get screwed. Because the game is all about speed and nobody is gonna care if I have to go "Wait a minute, did you just flip over a green card or a red card?" I'll have already lost.
All in all I hate color blindness in board games more. On a video game I can always jack around the color settings on the TV/Monitor until I get something that works a bit better for me. With a board game, what am I supposed to do?

Yup, that's right. My partner and I play Set all the time, mainly so she can beat the crap out of me; it's a complicated matching game, and the three colors are blue/purple, orange/green, and tan (?). Turns out, for me, orange/green /is/ tan, and since it's a speed game...
Edit: Though Race for the Galaxy is not so bad anymore, mostly because I've just memorized the deck; I know which cards are brown and which are green by name.

Well, they changed the LEDs that they used in both the Phat and the Lite for presumably no reason, so I don't see why it wouldn't happen
Also Monster Hunter Tri. Everything, EVERYTHING in the game is a shade of brown
Madworld. Everything's black or white with the only other color being red (for blood)
Alan Wake It's an incredibly dark game and really difficult to see the enemies even without color blindness. Although it's intentional, since it's a horror game
Josh I gotta ask since you've, you know, played it, but how is VC for the color blind?

You could always keep a set of colored lenses around, like from a flashlight. That can help with some shades of certain colors. It's a pain in the ass, but it helps a little.
Yeah, Puzzle Quest was slightly annoying to me. I could see the difference between yellows and greens (the symbols were an E and an A, as in earth and air), but just barely, so I kept trying to combine them.
Also distinguishing epic and rare items in WoW was a bitch, but later I found an addon for that.
Ahhhh ... see, E and A makes a lot of sense on those. My brain just said, "backwards 3, funny 4." Too much leet speak in my blood. :? Those letters were the only reason I could play the game as much as I did. I can see how non-colorblind folks would get confused, though. If they were used to using colors to distinguish things in games and all of a sudden had to look for other cues ... Rare vs. Epic in WoW is pretty much indistinguishable without the CB assist. Was really glad they put it in around the same time I started getting epic drops. I always screw up my green and red when sorting my Magic cards, too (if I'm going really fast just looking at borders, not mana symbols).
I felt pretty good about that test and was kind of afraid I may have done better on it than I expected. Nope: 90. Sorry to all you 200+ guys out there.
I'd probably wager, though, that I have the highest score of anyone here who's regularly paid for graphic design work.
Buddy of mine does graphic design and he scored 298.
I wonder if those red/green 3D glasses work for colourblind people.
They don't. Only the newer kind do.
Uh? Are you sure? What your eyes can distinguish is more or less irrelevant: the point is that nonred images are blocked by one lens, and nongreen images are blocked by the other, giving both eyes monochromatic input. If red/green colorblindness meant seeing green as black, then that would be an issue: it's not that, though, r/g colourblindness is an inability to distinguish, but both show up about equally well.

Yeah, I see a few bands that interrupt the gradient in that picture.
As Fyrewulff suggested, it's probably due to screen grabbing it and then opening it to crop in GIMP.
It's an important part of the list. I certainly want to know which games to avoid unless I am just really, really interested in playing them.
Hey I laughed!

Indeed
Perfect Dark Zero has implicit colorblind mode where you can change the friendly and opposing team colors.
Yep, still defaults to red and yellow as the default teams.
You can also set it to highlight players (they'll flash cyan)
Many many times was I heard yelling at the screen as my matches that should have been matches did not work.
I finally gave up.
