...I beat that mode all the time. It's more straight forward with the Empire though. With the Rebels you have to sneak through blockades and take the planet. You don't HAVE TO take the space and the planet to capture it, just the land...which is why the Rebels can get past space blockades.
Building things is simple since it's que based..you que up a BUNCH of stuff and it does it's thing...not one at a time.
It's all real time, not turn based strat. Never was supposed to be, so not sure where you thought it might be. If you think that's bad, don't ever play Starcraft 2.
The game is fun as hell if you understand it, although the space portions are certainly my favorite aspect the land picked up with the expansion.
How do you do well at the land portion? I messed around with the campaigns a bit, but I kept running into the issue where the "rocks" to my ground units' "scissors" were more like enormous fucking asteroids being hurtled from space onto tiny plastic safety scissors. A TIE mauler would roll up, plop down, and instakill seven squads of Rebel troopers before I could even get any tanks focused on them. And nobody ever seems to want to move.
Basically they will list their strengths and weaknesses in the actual unit details. In fact, it even lists it as Strength and Weakness, if I recall correctly. TIE maulers are weak as shit and anti vehicle infantry waste them in a second, but they have a self destruct mode that they can use...takes several seconds to go off, but if their blinking red in the middle of your dudes you might want to move them.
Infantry come in two flavors, good against other infantry and anti vehicle. Best to mix them both up, then toss in some tanks for armor backup. T2-B tanks are good anti infantry, and are best to start with before the heavy armor comes in. T4-s come later.
If you want to play I'll show you the ropes whenever you want.
Well I know about the weaknesses and the strengths. My only problem is that the "weaknesses" are more like "stuff that will instantly kill you," but the game moves so fast that you don't get time to react.
Also is there some kind of co-op galactic game or something? I have absolutely zero interest in learning skirmish/multiplayer.
You can turn down the game speed if it's giving you trouble, by the way. I think the default might be set on fast, but you can slow it down. You can also throw your guys into bunkers etc, but you really don't have to unless your defending.
Co-Op is not a hard option in there, and unless you use mods I don't recall a way to do it in Galactic Conquest. Been a bit since I played vanilla so I have to check, unless you can add multiple players and set some to AI, and just group up. Skirmish can be done the same way, you just ally with someone and beat up on AI opponents.
Well if you really think practicing in skirmish will help me in the regular game, add me on Steam and we'll do something sometime maybe possibly.

Added you up, I'll play whenever I have free time, sure. My only issue is I have the regular version/expansions, and not the steam one. They likely still use the same MP lobby setup though regardless, so hopefully we can join a game that way.
Damnit, I should have just bought it again on steam!

A $50 mouse is way too much. But you don't want to buy some $3 Mogitech knock-off piece of junk either. A solid $20 mouse will last you for ages. The only reason I even got rid of my old original-model Intellimouse is because the ratchet on the scroll wheel finally broke, so it was randomly scrolling up and down at will.
Exactly the same with me, just that my weapon of choice is the basic Logitech Pilot (£10-15). My old one of 6 years ago was still functioning perfectly well, until the scroll wheel (but not the scroll button) packed it in - still a functional mouse, just became troublesome for games. The whole thing was worn smooth like glass. Ordered a new one from some godforsaken dusty warehouse, and am still content. Mind you, I'm of the 'why would you ever need more than 3 mouse buttons' school of thought - I like to know that my thumb's not going to be clicking anything. It's really comfortable, light, and incredibly precise - all I need.
So uh... Where the hell are Dark Messiah's local files stored? They're not in \common or anywhere else I can find.
The content is in .gcf files in the \Steam\Steamapps folder. Settings, saves and the like are in \Steam\steamapps\username\dark messiah might and magic single player.

That's really odd.
Also, is Dark Messiah supposed to not be able to be alt-tabbed out of, or your mouse cursor flicker a lot in the main menu?

All pre-L4D Valve games are stored the same way. It's a Source Engine game, so it kinda makes sense for them to do it the same way as Valve.
Dark Messiah is generally known as a game that likes to crash, but I don't know anything about mouse flickering.
Well, first thing I did was accidentally kill my brother..by pounding him on the head with my hammer as if he were a nail.
ok, fail and reset.
I get through that.
Get to the first area, decide to destroy some EDF stuff. Well, I jump on this innocent looking structure and beat the living hell out of it with my hammer.
The whole time I'm doing this, Space Asshole is playing in my mind.
Well, turns out that structure was particularly explosive. and boy how did I fly.
This is gonna be fun

Just played a bit of the Witcher to see what it was like. I was expecting Oblivion style controls rather than Dragon Age style so that was a surprise. Graphics are a bit funky, everyone has creepy staring eyes. But it seems pretty fun so far.
Considering The Witcher is made with a game engine that is more than ten years old, the fact that it still looks as good as it does is a feat.
I think Red Dead Redemption being the most recent new game I've played has spoiled me as far as character animation goes. Everything else looks like junk now. Started replaying ME2 the other day and even that looks worse than I remember it in comparison.

aw the sales are over now ah well, got some good deals
So just cause doesn't really like being alt-tabbed. when i come back it's stretched the game wider than my screen which cuts off the map and whatever items i have on both sides... not really annoying enough to stop playing to fix it but eh it's just weird.
Also I feel like story wise i'm doing it wrong but after failing the first stronghold mission cause its a stupid escort thing i've just been going around blowing shit up. I've been using noncombat helicopters as bait to get close enough to the gunships... also i have a hard on for the fuel tanks in that island port just to the southwest of the dudes mansion you spawn at. grapple up to the top, airdrop a 4x rocket launcher and just go crazy till i die or need more rockets.
Guys I'm still looking for really good tower defense games. I own Defense Grid (and all its expansions) and I own Plants Vs Zombies. But I need more.
Try the Sol Survivor demo.
Sol Survivor is great and much better than Defense Grid IMO.

It makes me happy to know that other people listen to Idle Thumbs.
I wish they did stuff like this on the Playstation Store. I own the PS3 version of MW2 and I'm gpnna be grabbing it tomorrow as soon as I get off work. Too bad I can't do an advance purchase and save a bit.

I like Sol Survivor quite a bit, but it lacks any sort of fast forward or spawn next wave feature, so certain sections can tend to drag on a bit. Other than that, it's a lot of fun and worth your time.
So, The Guild. Quite a learning curve in the beginning, I think I'm kind of getting the hang of it. Digging it regardless of confusion.
Same, digging into the manual helps a bit. Could have used a tutorial of some sort, although I find it pretty cool so far.
Now if only it and Darklands would have their own dynasty.
I can dream, right?

Remember that when The Witcher went to a lower discount they announced that its discount would last much longer? (Until August, unless I'm mistaken.)
Now it's normal price.
Yeah, totally not a money grab.
