Goddamnit, of course STEAM decides to have a Stalker: CoC and CoP sale the same day I took the plunge and bought Call of Pripyat in my local brick and mortar for 13 Euro...
Whoa, a lot of people still use Winamp over Foobar.
If I didn't subscribe to Zune Pass I'd use Winamp over Foobar.
I use winamp, it's great... with a big but.. you have to fuck around now to untick more than a few things in the installer to keep it great. Honestly, AOL needs to let it be free and open source like Mozilla. I wonder, when AOL eventually bites the bucket (can't be long now) if Mozilla picked it up for a million or so.. Mozilla have got plenty of cash lying around.

Seriously, rubes, go buy that STALKER pack. I mean, unless you already know you won't like the STALKER games. In which case, I don't like you. Or if you can't run them, which I can almost accept as an excuse.
I recall Steam running out of keys the last time they did a big sale for the STALKER games as well. I think they just tend to underestimate how the games will sell. GSC has stated that the series has sold 4 million+ STALKER games worldwide, so despite being a pretty word-of-mouth series it does really well.

I have STALKER SoC. I find it to be kinda meh.
Avencast is on special for super cheap. Anyone played it?
Got final word back from steam on VAC, it does not matter if your account is hijacked, doesn't matter if you've been a customer for 6 years, VAC bans are zero tolerance no exceptions. So, if you feel like fucking someone over, hack their account and use an aimbot.
It doesn't matter if the support ticket is sent the second the account is hijacked, it can take a week for them to actually lock or return the account, in that time if a cheat is used you're permabanned.

Mods, man. Mods.
Seriously, vanilla SoC is not the greatest product. The magic is in the mods.

I'm assuming that's not from Gabe. If you haven't already, try and contact him. If he reads it, I'm fairly certain he'll unban you himself and smack the guy you spoke to upside the head. Be sure to link the thread and the parts in the previous one.

I would get it, but I already have Metro, and I still have Mass Effect, ME2, and Dragon Age as well to go through first.

100% of steam users who took the survey have steam installed
most pointless statistic ever.
Interesting how much Firefox is dominating that, pretty depressing so many people have the pos adobe reader installed. (sumatra people! sumatra!)
EDIT: Also, haha Apple.
Remember when Apple released Safari on windows and Steve Jobs pranced around on stage showing that pie chart? Thinking they could destroy Firefox? Haha.

I don't know anything about Stalker. Is it really any good? Reviews don't really seem to give me much of an idea.
I personally thought Stalker was probably the best game of whichever year it came out. The play experience varies a lot with how buggy it decides to be though, and whatever state GSC left the patches in though.
It is a good game to try. Very good at setting up an environment. There a bunch of mods out to help, but I haven't kept up recently, though I remember Float32 and Oblivion Lost being good. Other people on the forums would have a better idea.
I just sprung for the Worms 4-Pack to catch it before that preorder incentive dies out. I got two copies remaining with one possibly spoken for, so PM me for sexy times! (Worms Reloaded, I'm unloading them for $15)
Edit: Sorry, all the copies are gone! There might still be time for people to gather for a new pack, don't forget the Worms thread in SE++!
Call of Pripyat is seriously one of the best games I've played this year. I like it a lot more than SoC, and it is by far the most stable of the games too. Probably the only one that isn't inherently improved by mods; it stands well enough on its own. I can't recommend it enough.

All creature will die and all the things will be broken. That's the law of samurai.
Stalker: SOC is without a doubt, the best game I've played all year, so far. Will probably stay that way the way things are going. Simply the most atmospheric and frightening game I've played since System Shock 2.
If you start trolling around Stalker threads, you'll get very confused because everyone has their own favorite mods, all of which make vast changes to the gameplay. I'm sure all of the mods have their own good points, but this mod is the one to start out with.
It makes no major changes to the base gameplay, it just fixes a lot of bugs, adds some needed conveniences, and makes the game better looking. After you've played through the game with the Complete mod, then you can start looking at the more complex ones like OL or LURK.

If you want to be frightened and exhilarated, and you're willing to put up with a somewhat slow (but atmospheric!) start to get to it, get Stalker:SOC and the Complete Mod.
42% of steam users have skype? I didn't know it was that popular.
Also its less then a one percent difference between utorrent, and itunes, I thought that was hilarious. Of course theres bleed over there for people who could have both.
I bought the Fallout 3 GOTY from Steam and when I go to play it, a screen comes up asking me to install the game. This doesn't work. Have any of you come across this problem? I saw something on the Steam forums saying to backup the game and install from the backup and it may work. I'm not the most tech savy guy.....actually I'm fucking lame when it comes to computers and fixing shit.

My friends and I use Skype all the time while playing Steam games together.

At this stage, don't expect an unbanning from them, however, DO send them a (politely worded) e-mail about how you feel and how this is completely unacceptable, behaviour, because it is.
After that, if they don't give you any response, it's time to escalate. Any number of games sites would love to run this story about how Valve messed you over, just make sure you give them ample proof of everything Valve has said to you. If Valve aren't willing to correct it, then to be frank, they deserve to have it looked at in the press. Even if that doesn't ultimately get you a response, it's still something that would hopefully encourage them to rethink their policies a little.
I mean I can sort of see where they're coming from (people could just pretend to have their account hijacked to use hacks, then cry foul when they're banned and claim it wasn't them that did it. This is actually an extremely common excuse), but if Valve have already accepted you weren't in control of your account at the time, then really there's no reason to be like this and got by half-measures.
So yeah, basically send a formal e-mail to the company address about this issue. And if they refuse to act on it even still, then raise it elsewhere. Kotaku, PC Gamer, wherever. But first, ask them directly.
EDIT: Would also help if you posted the whole text of their final response, just so everything's clear.
I know some guilds in WoW have started going to mumble but honestly I don't see the point. It's annoying to setup, not nearly as intuitive and vent is more universal.

As far as I know, Ventrilo requires a server. If you're just two people that want to talk to each other, it might not be the best.
I don't use it that often, but the voice chat in Steam has been fine whenever I've used it. It has usually been because of the voice chat built into some game was being bad.

Yeah when I was trying to co-op DoW2 with someone GFWL voice chat was just being a complete pain. For some reason it was just a staticy mess. When we switched to using Steam-chat instead, that worked fine.
People love using vent/whatever 3rd party app, because its a universal client. their friends can setup their binds and settings for volume, then they dont have to do it over 5,000 different games with 5,000 differrent settings. However I have never had any problems with in game voice and other people, so I find it to be a burden to play with most anyone I know when I have to type a bunch of bullshit in to get on their vent server when the in game solution works perfectly fine.
Yeah, Skype is, in my opinion, the best voice chat program you can use. It doesn't require a central server, so you can pretty much use it for anything, between anyone. The call quality far exceeds that of TeamSpeak and Steam (Can't say anything for Vent, I rarely use it), and it's generally pretty good about latency (I'm looking at you TeamSpeak).

On board GPUs on netbooks or old laptops probably. There's plenty of games on Steam that run on old hardware.

Skype has an audio chat component.
Do people just not use vent anymore?

Third party VoIP programs run in the background, so you wouldn't have to.
Also what's wrong with using Steam's group voice chat? Works well for us in games like Bad Company 2.
yeah it makes sense, I just never think of skype when I think of VoIP, i think of video chat; is why I asked.

The guild I was in used Teamspeak.
I didn't even know Skype had video chat. I've always known it as that thing that let you make phone calls from your computer that also had voice chat.

I recommend Sumatra too, but there's simply some content that it cannot render. For that reason, I still keep Reader installed alongside it.
