Ninety Nine Nights 2: STEALTH RELEASE GO. Also Demo on XBL.
To be honest, I've been looking forward to it. I enjoyed the first N3. It left a lot to be desired, but I felt it looked and played well. It was a prettier, bigger Dynasty Warriors, and that's exactly what I wanted. I played through each character's storyline before I traded it in. Not a whole lot of replay value, unfortunately. The one hands-on I did read says that it plays very similarly to N3, and also has some sort of level up system with selectable/purchaseable skills. So... sounds promising. But why the lack of ... any news or advertising whatsoever? And why the lack of reviews?

Complete silence after a game is released usually doesn't bode well.
That said, I liked the story of the first game. If they tuned down some of the stupidity in the boss battles and worked out some more interesting combat options and character upgrades/customization, I'll be happy.
Looking forward to reviews of this, loved Dynasty warriors up to 5, just bought samurai warriors 3 for the wii. Hated the first ninety nine nights though.

for all the flaws that the first game had, I still enjoyed it a fair bit. I'm a little disappointed that they switched from a colorful whimsical fantasy setting a generic gritty grey setting, but meh
apparently they added in puzzles too, that consist of moving boxes so you can jump on them to get to higher areas. horrible horrible move imo. I just want to smash shit! not be stopped by crappy puzzles for their attempt at variety
I don't understand how this (or dynasty warriors) have such a stupidly simple combat system. The only thing I do in the game is beat up tens of thousands or soldiers and I have to use 3 combos the entire game? Give me God Hand customizable combos and we'll talk.
I honestly don't know, part of me thought N3 was really cool, and the other part of me thinks that it was utter garbage. I've actually traded in that game and then bought it again months later when I saw it on sale. The only real thing stopping me from going and finishing it is the lack of checkpoints so you loose hours of time if you die on a boss.
The characters look really cool, as expected from a korean production, and the world is kind of interesting. Well, not really, it's kind of generic shit. But maybe not... Sort of.
Maybe I just want a real sequel to the first xbox Kingdom Under Fire (KuF2 is coming but it doesn't sound promising with all the development issues and talk of MMO). N3 I might permanently be on the fence with, it's kind of cool and kind of poop from a butt.
I always liked Dynasty Warriors, but I used to play it with my younger sister all the time, and it's definitely more fun in co-op. Multiplayer Co-op is the whole point of the game, as far as I'm concerned, and it was one of the few games you could find for PS2 that had multiplayer co-op that wasn't shooting things.
I bought it. It exists. The combat is more smooth and chain-able than the first game. It has mid-level checkpoints now. It's a different story and different characters, but the world has the same feel.
That's about all the relevant information I can think of.

Damn...
This is some real under-the-radar stuff.
I love Dynasty Warriors as well, and I seriously have no idea why. Examined objectively, the games are trash. But while I'm playing it's like "YYYYYYYYYEEEEAAAAAHHHHH MOTHA FUCKAS WASSUP NOW" *slashslashslash*

It's so incredibly sad that that's really all I needed to hear. I do have the sense to at least try to find it for rent before I break down and buy it, though.

Do attacks still become crazy and over the top as you get more powerful? I'm talking about stuff like that barbarian doing earthquakes and meteors in the first game.

From the short Hands-On I read, there are still some crazy attacks. It doesn't sound like you'll be doing those MEGA attacks that would wipe out several hundred enemies at a time, though. I think it's been toned down just a bit.

That guy's narration is utter garbage. He's like describing every game ever. "Cinematics move the story along..."
Game actually looks pretty sweet though. I don't really like Galen 'cause he's got asymmetrical swords (yeah I have a problem).
The demo showed that there was more rpg-ish stuff for the characters than in the first game, but the combat was about the same. And the one boss was just stupid to play against. If you're going to have a really imprecise camera and poor blocking or dodging mechanics then don't put put segments in the game where you have to block or dodge huge attacks that you can't see coming. Unless they were going for a Contra vibe, because you need to figure out the patterns through trial and error to get anywhere.
But maybe the boss would have been easier in context, with better equipment and higher levels.

I thoroughly enjoyed Ninety Nine Nights... after I played it the 8th or 10th time. The first time I played it I thought it was crap and took it out of my xbox and lost it. When I found it again I forgot about it totally and played it again... only to take it out and lose it again. I found it the third time and (I have a terrible memory btw) and played it... lost it. One day, when I had run out of any other games to play, I decided to try to dig into it and figure it out and played for three or four days, beat 4 or 5 of the campaigns, then traded it in for something else.
I'm excited for N3-II.

Yeah, totally, I was actually getting some enjoyment out of the demo up until that boss.
Then I was all "Fuck this shit."
I only tried it out of curiosity after watching that trainwreck of a press conference anyway.
Yeah... I mean, I loved Dynasty Warriors (4 and 5) and I felt N3 had a lot of potential, but the demo is definitely not selling me on the game. It's missing something, though I can't put my finger on what.

That said, I know nothing about the sequel. Sorry.
Only if you press the XXX and the YYY and the XXX and the YYY.

I would like to know this as well.

Aside from boss battles I found the combat much more interesting than the borefest that is the Dynasty Warriors games.

To be fair, I'm surprised any of the Dynasty Warriors series got sequels either.
I never understood the love for these games.
I love the games and I couldn't tell you either

They tried to bury us. They didn't know that we were seeds. 2018 Midterms. Get your shit together.
Why did they bother calling it N3 II instead of an original property then? Does that brand name really have anything behind it?
You press buttons and things die. There's not a whole lot more to it than that.

Looks similar. He didn't use his "Orb Spark" in the video, though. I think that's the big attack.
