I'm curious if any other folks out there who own the new slim style 360 have noticed just the huge island of heat that seems to linger just above the main processor vent. I keep a little fan blowing across it but that doesn't really dissipate the heat that's right there in the unit. Having a crazy hot console doesn't seem like a good situation to have. Do I just need more fans or something?
Maybe someday, they'll see a hero's just a man. Who knows he's free.
It's very easy to notice now, because of the more open design, but you're just feeling the improved airflow. That grill on the top/side is meant to be an exhaust port, and hot air coming out means it's doing its job.
Business as usual, and probably no hotter than the old model.
Also remember that the xbox has an automatic overheating cutoff now.
And yes, it uses a different airflow design, chip package containing both gpu and cpu and larger heatsink designed to remove heat more efficiently. that vent will have hot air coming out of it. don't leave it in an enclosed space. You probably don't need that extra fan.
Yeah, all that "extra" heat you feel near the vent is heat that used to be trapped inside the older model. The fact that the air around the console is so hot means it is doing a great job of shedding it.
