[Game On]Frets on Fire. Guitar Hero on PC

You'll only need 6 keys, but you'll shred through all 104

Official Site

F1-F5 Control your frets.
Enter is pick.

You can use the keyboard like normal. However, if you are truly metal, (and if you arent, you should leave) you will hold the keyboard like a guitar
fretsonfirelogo8gq.png

With the proper blue tooth products, you can also Play it on the Wii. While I traditionally to not dwell within The Black Arts, this may be a good chance to use magick for rock, instead of evil.

The Guitar Hero controller also works with Frets on Fire as well. Or so I am told.

Some anti-virus programs have been known to report false positives with Frets on Fire. This is because the game is compiled from Python source to an executable file using py2exe, which was also used to make the Backdoor.Rajump keylogger. Apparently an inaccurate virus description crafted from the keylogger caused anti-virus programs to misidentify the game as a virus.

You can remap all the keys. You could use z,x,c,v,b.

Or you could play the guitar behind your back.

Well, this just screams for a PS2 USB adapter cable and the guitar.

You can just as easily play it with a Guitar Hero controller if you have a USB adapter.

The game isn't that good right now, though. It definitely needs some polishing.

    I know, but I don't have a PS2 USB adapter or a Guitar Hero guitar  .

I tried this with the PS2/USB adapter, and it would not register my upward strums properly. I could get the strums to register with Freetar Hero, but that one isn't as complete as Frets on Fire.

Why play Americas Army when you can just join the army? Why play Mario when you can go out and eat mushrooms and jump on turtles?

Also, real guitars dont come with a full band, and the ability to learn freebird in about 15 minutes.

Because you can't play a fun and challenging rhythm game with a real guitar?

Why not just go dancing for real instead of playing DDR? Why not just go cheerleading instead of playing Ouendan?

And for that matter, why not go jump on turtles instead of playing Mario?

Edit: Beaten! With practically the same comment about Mario!

    Question about this game:

Does the lead guitar part turn on and off as you get the notes right like in guitar hero? Can you just import a no leads and leads only version of any song? If not, is it open source?

Okay this game is fun, and will hold me over until GH is released on the 360.

Main gripe is the f5 key is way too far from the rest of the buttons and feels kinda wierd, anyone found a better key setup?

And the prospect of custom songs ready for download? Awesome.

Yes. When you import a song, you can either import the entire song, or the guitar track, and background track.
how does this program handle the WWWWWWHAMMMY bar?
    It doesnt. No whammys here.

Also, as far as the button config, Ive yet to play a song that uses f5, other than the tutorial.

Some people use 1-5. You could try turning the keyboard around and using
    nm,./ and tab to pick.

Or how about playing a real guitar = 10x harder?

    Freebird on a guitar = O.o

Id love to buy a real guitar, ive always wanted to learn how to play but i know ill suck at it and give up like straight away. That and id feel a bit weird learning to play an instrument at my age, even though im only in my 20s...

Anyway, i tried this out was pretty decent but got bored quick. I cant wait till GH on the 360 as i dont have a PS2 so have never played it :(
