My point wasn't that voice control was new (it's not), just that it's one easy way that Kinect could be added to traditional control schemes. Goodness knows that arm flailing controls don't really fit in with holding a 360 controller.
Or you could use the 360 headset... voice recognition is a software thing. Developers could put that in *right now* if they wanted. Kinect probably has built-in voice recognition software, but that doesn't mean it's necessarily good or even accessable to developers (although it probably is). Honestly I think chances are good Microsoft just dumped the libraries used for SYNC (or whatever other voice recognition projects they have going) in there.
Yeah, they could do it right now without Kinect, but if Kinect makes it easier to add voice recognition to their games while simultaneously letting them add a "Supports Kinect!" bulletpoint on their box art, I can definitely see that being appealing to some developers.
I've said it before, but I think a key to making Kinect successful is to make it available to the indie community. Goodness knows that I don't have the time or knowledge to add voice recognition code to my games, but if Kinect makes it as easy as "If (activeuser.voice = "Advance") { code response } " or something similar, then I might consider adding voice controls where appropriate. Similarly, I'm sure the scores of XBLIG developers who are making avatar games right now would just love to make Kinect games if given the chance. If big development studios don't want to support Kinect, then let the small indie developers who have nothing to lose do it.
Hell yeah dude! Fuck the Activision/Ubisoft/EA big hitters, I'm getting more gaming fun from XBLIG than any of them!
The new GH and Rock Band stuff is pretty interesting.
RB is the one that comes with the Fender strat, right? Actually teaches you how to play?
Bout fucking time.
It won't come with a pro mode controller. I don't think they will even be ready when the game ships to buy separately. But still, if you want to play pro mode, you'll need to buy the 6 string pro controller by itself, and will probably cost quite a bit.
Man, the more I look at that idiotic comparison chart, the more I'm struck dumb by the thought that it's supposed to make Move that much more superior than Kinect. I mean, there are only three things that 'win' and it's not even like it's a big win.
Rechargable batteries and buttons? How about a comparison chart pointing out that apples suck because they're not orange like oranges? Or that oranges have too much citric acid?
The feedback one is only a half win and only because it actually provides more than audio feedback. Still, that's not what the Kinect is supposed to do in the first place.
And it's amusing that in the comparison, it has to include the Wii. Not the Wii remote (because then they couldn't boast about Blu-Ray and HD support), but the Wii itself. Which opens up the comparisons that the Wii is a wholly self contained system. You buy it and you're done except for the software. Both Move and Kinect need a base console and that's going to be extra.
Seriously, that's some silly goose marketing right there.
And most of the Wii "losses" are made up for by the fact that it has both a camera and microphone (sold separately). I presume they left out price because they couldn't win on that point, but if they add enough necessary purchases to the Wii they could make up the difference.

Also Kinect gives you the gameplay option of punching your Nan in the face with a fist full of knuckles, whereas Move and Wiimote only let you hit her in the face with a baby's toy plastic controller.

I'm not even sure what some of those camera choices are supposed to be. Augmented Reality? Does that mean it comes with a syringe, a bent spoon, and some fine, fine Horse? The rest is all pretty meaningless since the Wii simply doesn't do that at all. And in Move and Kinect's case, we don't even know how important any of that shit will be.
The only thing Wii actually loses on is HD. And much as I like my 360 and HD TV, even I know that that shit isn't significantly important.
And the Wii still wins because it's wholly self-contained. This is just a talking points memo for idiots.

Does RB really "teach you how to play"? Yeah you can hook it up and it shows you what fret and string to hold down to strum, but does it teach you the proper hand positions and strumming methods and stuff?
Or is this really a mode for people who already know how to play guitar?

Right.
The new Guitar Hero teaches you how to turn into a pig.
Puh-leeze. GH plays nothing like ACTUALLY turning into a pig. All you videogame losers should spend all that time you waste on videogames and learn how to really transform into a man-swine.

We don't know what it will completely do. It might provide technique tips, but there is usually no one single correct way to play a song. Likely, it'll just be an animated tab chart with more direct feedback.

Wii wins. Kinect lets you punch. Wiimote lets you plastic handle whip.
Fix'd. You'd be better off dropping it and punching them. Kinect has the edge in this area.

Sturdy plastic>fists.
The argument is moot because Gamecube with handle>all.

Gamecube is an entirely different matter. But boney fists > any Wii controller to date.
I love it when they parade around these charts! Although it's not an accurate comparison, I always think of it as two old people listing off their ailments in some kind of pathetic competition (I say two because I don't think Nintendo ever participates.) It's like when you suck shit you have no recourse but to come out ahead on something, even if it's not something worth bragging about. It has a glowing ball! Why does that matter? Cause it's a bullet-point!
Just played the demo of Limbo and I noticed that there were over 50,000 entries on the leaderboard already. For a $15 game that came out today, that's pretty awesome.

But it's cool because I've gotten my guitar-playing friends who lost interest in RB some time ago to get excited for RB3
Because it'll basically be teaching them a bunch of new songs, interactive tabs essentially
Is this a new Tactics Ogre, or a port of Let Us Cling Together?
Since no-one else's answered you, it's a 3D remake by the original staff. Matsuno's even coming back to design it but not direct (probably too busy working on whatever other project he's got going on).
Ok that chart is dumb...one of the reasons is that they don't highlight an actual big bonus of move...and that's xyZ movement over x and y.
Uh, they did in the very first row. The problem with the entire thing is that they don't really make it clear what advantages the Move has over the other two, it reads like they spent 5 minutes on it and threw it straight in whatever magazine it was in. In other words, SCEE released it.
I don't really think they've eclipsed the stupidity of Microsoft including the balance board + 3 fitness games prices with the Wii though.
Anyway, Sheep's back. How's he not jailed though? I thought banned people were put on parole first, or is maximumzero 'special'?

I hope Nintendo's smart enough to stay out of the whole dick waving crap.
The EyeToy has a build in mic, and the PS Eye has a 4 mic array. Don't know how many games use them though.
Hell yeah dude! Fuck the Activision/Ubisoft/EA big hitters, I'm getting more gaming fun from XBLIG than any of them!
Except Rock Band.

On that note, the Kinect has audio feedback, presumably on the basis of the television itself outputting sound.
It looks like Move games have a massive drawback that Sony isn't being very open about. :P
Edit: Unless the Kinect itself makes sound, or are they talking about built-in headsets?
Heh, MS tried this tactic already.

Augmented reality means games like Eye Pet.
I would prefer my example.

Seriously I read that chart and was so depressed. How will I get feedback in games if my remote does not glow with the colorz?

I love the little 'simulated action' tag at the bottom of that box.
You know, in case you thought you were buying something that would really let you explode helicopters by shooting lasers at them from your forehead.
"Simulated fun"
I thought that Kinect could do that too, right?
And you guys called me unreasonable...

Seeing as they're developing Lord of the Rings: Aragorn's Quest, I'm guessing not. I'd put my money on PS3/Wii games.
