[WoW] Have you been posting? I'm sorry but I'll have to see some [RealID]!
Posts
GW2 and TOR are near equal in my things that are awesome coming soon, but GW2 is still inching to being my number 1 most anticipated title for next year.
They did that when the first iteration of RealID was announced and it was just a cross-game friend thingie.
Then what people assumed got announced.
Except nobody assumed the forums would suddenly display your real name.
Everybody getting all paranoid about it was assuming much crazier shit.
That was quite good.
When boiling a frog...
Female friend of mine just confirmed that there is a script going around that doesn't require you to update any malicious addons to find your Real ID info.
They didn't download anything at all recently, and unless something was already on her PC (doubtful) you can access peoples real names now just by running it on their toon name.
So sadly with this bit of information, now knowing that random people and not just 'friends of friends' can see your name... this changes things.
Hopefully all this hullabaloo about security gets heard, but I'll be turning this off and those two people I talked to using it will now have to text me instead.
/sigh
I am fairly confident that saeris, who knows an infinite amount more about these things than the majority of us, has already debunked this. In fact I think he actually posted said script a few pages back.
I just got a call from said friend saying, and I quote.
I haven't downloaded any new addons, only have 3 friends on my ID (me her BF and another RL friend of mine) and she just got a whisper in game from random guildie saying... Hey XXXXX is short for XXXXXXXXX and YYYYYY is your last name right?
Said guildie isn't on her friends list...said they got it using a script.
For me, that's enough to not care that someone I don't know on a forum 'debunked it' I'll go with what my friend has actually told me.
Why those functions are available at all to 3rd party addons at all boggles the mind.
Steam/PSN/XBL/Minecraft / LoL / - Benevicious | WoW - Duckwood - Rajhek
Has she d/led any new addons recently?
I only used it to talk to 2 RL friends anyway, it was convenient. This makes it less convenient, and if there is no such script. great.
I argued that seeing a name won't matter if its friends of friends... who cares. random people I don't need knowing anything...problem. My own name is very common, but if there is a chance this script works, its moved from the realm of "no big deal, its just friends of friends seeing my name" to "chance some DBag I grouped with can now access my name and harass me if they find me, or some other poor sap that shares my name" that's not cool.
nope
This is quite indeed excellent stuff, and should be read.
except... Me and my RL friend are on alliance and don't know her guildie... and her BF only has her on his list.
this is a very small circle of friends I'm talking about. Me, IRL friend, her, her BF. I have 2 people on my list rest are only friends with each other. and I'm 100% confident that my other friend has no connections horde side on my server, as they rerolled a toon on my server just to level with my alt on alliance.
What? WHAT? Someone post a copy for the work filter blocked!
Copy>paste for us unfortunate souls at work? Please.
edit: beat'd.
Mind posting detials here?
holy poop, the players won.
Or they're lulling you into a false sense of security before they pull another questionable change. In game advertisements don't sound too bad in comparison to having your name plastered all over the internet, do they?
Bashiok is pretty funny.
Queue into LFD. Loading screen pops up "Heroic Oculus brought to you by Gold Bond Medicated Powder"
"Too soon, Executus! You have awakened me too soon! .... now I need to buy over the counter Sominex. Ask a doctor if you have heart problems or are pregnant or nursing."
Common.. that's perfect for the...
"need a minute? Twix!" commercial
"The Feast! It's ruined"
And another nearby character will /say
"Try a Snickers bar instead, so yummy and delicious"
These /say will show up (with chat bubbles) without any way to disable it.
Also internet first. Doesn't this mark the first defeat for Bobby Kotick?
