Did you just say that Grace Slick wasn't great?

Also I think Siouxsie Sioux might be better than Gaga. I mean, Gaga has decades to go, but at the moment I think that's how it is.

    man

grace slick had some good moments like way early on

with white rabbit and whatever else

    but you know

she was basically the only member of Jefferson Airplane to stay on (sometimes off-and-on) all the way until they were Starship

    that's right

    we built this city

    and like

    set the night to music

    oh yeah

    1. what is with the Pony posting?
    2. Yeah I think even Slick admits that Jefferson Starship was pretty much the worst thing.

    Holy shit

I just realized it has been 6 months since I quit smoking

It just now dawned on me because I haven't had the urge to smoke for a long time. Like the first couple of months were a little tough and it was easy to keep track of how long it had been because I was thinking about it semi-frequently, but not anymore. That's pretty cool.

    but Gaga's game is meta

There's only one pop star who can manage her presence, wide-spread celebrity, persona, and so on.

Agulera has the best pipes but she's always behind her peers. Lauryn Hill released one album and then had a breakdown. Mariah Carey is insane. Shania Twain is country.

Britney Spears and Lady Gaga are insane pop personalities that dominate everyone else on the scene, not with talent, but with commercialized freshness and zing.

i'm watching the series life in 720p

    like

it fucking amazes me that we have camera like this, in existence

    they're fucking absurd

like, one single one of these absurdly crazy shots... takes up like 5 seconds

THERE'S LIKE 10 HOURS OF SHOTS THAT COULD MAKE A CAREER

    What.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Life_(BBC_TV_series)

No I mean, what do you mean by a shot and how does it take five seconds.

i mean there are shots that they only pan over for maybe 5 seconds- like a leaping frog or a bird doing a ritual dance or a shot of a rare cat in great detail and from a perfect angle, etc.- and then they just move on, and there are hundreds of incredible shots throughout the series

but each and every one of those shots is absolutely amazing and could probably win an award on its own and make its capturer famous

Cass is really on the right track here. I'm not sure I can articulate it any better than she did, but Gaga is selling a lot more than just the songs.

I'm not going to pretend it's anything super deep, and Lady Gaga would be the first person to agree with that, but she is a marketing genius, a genius at marketing herself. She controls how the media responds to her, she forces them to play her game. Not even Brittney can do that. Madona can do that, I think. Garth Brooks could do that within the Nashville country music genre in his heyday. But that's about it.
