So I was using the Neutron Assault Rifle on my Soldier and killing a lot of dudes with it. It's really solid. Decent damage, no waiting for spin-up, nice range. I replaced my EMP Shotty with it for the moment, but I think I might drop the Scrapmaker. I just don't know
I wish more PA dudes were on PS3. PSN is OFRunner, please join games I'm in!
Scrapmaker plus the hover perk for more damage = Fast killing + extra bonus xp for hover kills. I'd keep the Assualt rifle for close combat though

Eh, I'm not a fan of Hover. Maybe I'll try it out some more later, but I really dislike the immobility. I drop down an Ammo Beacon for more damage, though I'm sure it's less of a boost than Hover.
Man, I love Energon Sling. Oh, here comes some Soldier spamming his Whirlwind, boom, now your abilities are jammed and you don't know what to do.

Ditch the scrapmaker?! How could you?! After all it's done for you...
Seriously, I consider the scrapmaker the main strength of the solider. His abilities and killstreaks seem generally weaker than what the leader gets but, thanks to the awesomeness of the scrapmaker (and shotgun, too), he's still worth playing as.
After giving it a chance, I ended up quite liking hover. If you don't float around aimlessly in the middle of the map it mostly works out alright.
I think I lack the foresight to use the Scrapmaker effectively.. I can see how people tear shit up with it, but I'm far more at home with the Assault Rifle. And bless the EMP Shotgun, ending a close range duel with a shotgun headshot is nothing but awesome.
Sure as heck am enjoying this multiplayer, at least when I can get a decent connection. Haven't forked for DLC so pretty sure the matchmaking's gonna be even dicier than before.
I recently decided all my characters needed actual names, so now I'm rolling with my two scientists, Codeine and Quick Fix, my scouts Aperture and Sidechain, my soldiers Aftermath and Boom Box, and my leaders Ophidian and Bit Shifter. Anyone else bothered naming their Transformers or am I just sad?
I've got temporary names in that are basically mini-descriptors of their equipment/perks. I tried to set up characters that would complete Teletran I challenges naturally due to their setup. Haven't come up with any decent Transformer names for them yet.
I am forever going into my customization screen and tweaking how my characters look when in between matches. Right now I mainly run with a Leader who I think looks like a pretty passable Springer (green/yellow Ironhide chassis), since he's one of my favorite characters.
I also have a really bitching Autobot scientist that I unfortunately never use, since I haven't really devoted enough time to the class to figure out how to do well with it. Maybe after I get Leader and Scout up to 25.
I'll probably make some backgrounds/names for him and for my scout once I'm totally happy with how they look.
The next phase is for us to actively RP while grouped together in multiplayer matches. As horrific as that sounds, the part of me that was active on the TF2k5 MUSH years ago is tingling.

you know, I would be kinda up for that.
I actually made (drew out, wrote a bio for) Blitzwing's "older brother," Airtillery.

Yeah, I name my guys. Take ages to think of anything, though, since I want them to sound fitting but I know nothing of Transformers outside of the game...

I knnoooooow, but I'm digging the Neutron AR, and the EMP Shotty is a monster up close.
Also, pretty much any Soldier I come across Hovering, I just pelt with bullets while I strafe around until he's dead. It seems like something you gotta catch someone off guard with.
When I was starting to run dry on name ideas, I just started thinking of drum'n'bass producers. There seems to be an established connection there, and it's just fitting as hell.
Heh, I was just playing and my connection must have dropped but everything got kind of laggy. Then for some reason my Soldier was stuck in a jumping pose, but could still move around, and would move as if he was going full speed in vehicle mode. So I was basically sliding around real fast shotgunning people at 10 frames a second. Good times.

So Tuesday I decided that I was tired of not beating the campaign on hard. Seriously...fuck who ever designed the last boss for the autobots. That was so beyond not cool.
I did notice some of the tweaks. The burst rifle feels alot more powerful. Was getting headshots like crazy and Shockwave doesn't feel as OMG powerful anymore. Might have to swap that out for Disguise on my scientist.
I finally wrapped my head around a decent Scientist playstyle last night. I was constantly jetting around, transforming to robot mode to get my bearing, then transforming back to find a good spot to go to next. I was like a robot on ADD.
As soon as I found an enemy, I'd flyby, drop a turret, then transform and fly away again. I'd come back from a different angle, drop down close while they were engaged with the turret, EMP shotgun blast, then EMP. Tactics were similar when I found a teammate fighting an enemy. The moment I lost ANY health, I'd jet away to an energon cube or find a quiet place and pop a grenade. I was like 15-3 on the maps that I found ideal for this strategy (Berth. Orbital). Every other map I fared much better with my usual Leader or Scout.
I'm pretty horribad at Soldier, but I think I'd do better playing with the PA crew and acting with a Scout, Scientist, or Leader as a partner.
Does anyone know if you get extra xp for finishing with top score or even for being on the winning team? Or is it just for bragging rights?

Well, Finishing with Top Score usually means MVP which is an Achievement (You've got the Touch, I believe), but I think there's a Victory bonus for XP.
The following adjustments were made to the Soldier class:
X12 Scrapmaker damage slightly decreased
X12 Scrapmaker spread increased by 1.25 its initial value
Thermo Rocket Launcher direct hit damage slightly increased
Tank Cannon damage slightly increased
The following adjustments were made to the Leader class:
Fusion Cannon damage moderately decreased
Fusion Cannon spread increased by 1.5 its initial value
Magma Frag Launcher damage moderately increased
Magma Frag Launcher rate of fire increased 1.6 its initial value
Warcry armor buff moderately decreased
Corrode damage significantly increased
P.O.K.E. killstreak time moderately decreased

Lots of weirdness tonight. I managed three more levels for my soldier, and then the game crashed. When I started, I was experiencing the most brutal lag I've ever seen.
And I swear to God, I ended up in a game where someone was cheating. Hacking the game, or using a trainer, or something. The guy had a nucleon shock cannon that never ran out of ammo, fired at the rate of an ion displacer, and seemed to have an endless overshield, though that could have been because no one got close enough to really hit him long and hard enough to drop it--but with his mobility, I think it would have been hard for him to replenish it when it got low. I think his name was Valeron or something. So yeah, fuckin' cheater.

I've heard the PC community has started having trouble with hackers, so it wouldn't surprise me. Of course, I'm a 360 player so I have no idea how accurate that is.
I've actually had a pretty good night tonight. Got a pretty damn nice game in as the Scout, with 19 Kills and 4 Deaths. Hilariously, most of the enemy team was also composed of Scouts. I also finally got the achievement for having 75 combined character levels after getting my Scout to 14. Might work on my Soldier again soon to get to 17 and try the Heavy Weapons perk.

Also! Dude was a Scientist, and I might be wrong, but I don't think Scientists could get access to a shock cannon by themselves. It was team deathmatch, and he got 34 kills. I'm pretty sure that means no one else could have given it to him (and begs the question why they would).
Never mind its rate of fire and infinite ammo.
I'm just surprised there hasn't been more trouble with hackers. I found out entirely by accident (I'd been using it to try to learn the timing for Trypticon on Hard without having to continually reload and didn't switch it off) that the trainer worked just fine in multiplayer too. I quickly switched it off when I realized the problem. However, it couldn't give me a shock cannon, and wouldn't have changed the rate of fire...
Anyone have any Scientist tips? They're so squishy and it's getting frustrating. I can't win a gunfight to save my life and my disguise attempts rarely pay off.

As someone who has so far only played soldier but has been shredded by people of every class other than Soldier*: learn to be mobile. A really good scientist can slaughter pretty much any class as long as they're fast enough. Get up high, pop someone's head off with the Photon Burst Rifle, fly off, drop in behind someone, blast them with the EMP shotgun, fly off again, drop a healing grenade for some comrades in a fix, maybe use Shockwave or a melee attack to help them out, get the hell out again. If you ever get pinned down by a Soldier or Leader, you're dead. If you are ever get slow or immobile, a Scout will snipe you or backstab you.
*Seriously, do all the good players eventually migrate to other classes? I've never fought a Soldier I can't match or beat down. But good Leaders with good Warcry timing can fuck me up if I'm not supported or Warcryed myself; good Scouts' sniper bullets and swords seem to find my vital systems magnetic; and good Scientists can outmaneuver me with contemptous ease, put a shotgun shell in my back, fly up high, and then pop my head off with a rifle shot just as I come out into the open after respawning.

First, what level are you? Should help us have an idea of what perks and such you have available.
But in terms of general advice, the Scientist is not meant to survive in a stand up fight. They're meant to basically be a hit and run class for the most part. For example, I find good Scientists incredibly frustrating on my Scout, because as soon as I hit them with Mark Target or get a shot off on them, they go Jet and run ASAP, but will often times return to land behind me and melee me as soon as I engage one of their allies. They also have very powerful abilities all around... except Disguise, which is a bit on the "Meh" side until you get Friendly Fire as a perk, then it becomes a tad ridiculous.
I'm honestly surprised they didn't touch the EMP Shotgun with the patch, as it seemed to be of similar strength to the Scatterblaster and Scrapmaker in the hands of a Scientist.
Shock cannons get 10 rounds of ammo, I believe. Of course, you can probably refill it with ammo pickups or beacons.
Can't in single-player. Neither ion displacers nor shock cannons, when removed from turrets, can be refilled. And again, what's their ROF like?
Oh, I didn't know that. Well, probably for the best, as far as balance goes. I got to pick one up as a Soldier once after killing the Scientist using it, and man, that thing is beastly in MP. It one hit kills anyone as long as you fire near them. The splash damage is incredible. ROF felt like the same semi-automatic as in singleplayer. Hardly matters with the damage it delivers.

All right. I'm just trying to make sure. I'd hate to accuse someone of cheating if they weren't, and I was trying to nail it down whether he was or if he was just that damn good and I was being a sore loser. So he may have been that damn good enough to quickly get an overshield and a killstreak going, and not get damaged enough to lose it, but then the weapon was hacked. Good to know.
So today is the day I discovered the absolute joy of Scientist with disguise/drain and an emp shotgun.
Not only was it the first time I ever got enough kills for a shock cannon, but I also got it many times, and using it is pure ecstasy.
I would enjoy EMP shotgun more if I didn't seem to join laggy matches all the damn time. It's like I'm hitting dead on and missing, then missing by a mile and the guy suddenly explodes.
Anyone have any Scientist tips? They're so squishy and it's getting frustrating. I can't win a gunfight to save my life and my disguise attempts rarely pay off.
I struggled when I first tried scientist. Until you get a better handle on them, I'd recommend equipping the EMP shotgun and trying to fly behind enemies without them seeing you. As soon as you come under fire, transform and get out of there, spinning and diving to avoid taking too much damage. Get used to switching between forms almost constantly and try to 'bounce' around the map while looking for a suitable straggler to pick off.
