two of my friends and me have played Rogue trader, Warhammer fantasy role play, and now we are starting to play legend of the 5 rings. the friend that plays GM doesn't like D&D but i really want to try it. he says that the system has crap story and it is nothing but hack and slash. is this true, if not plz tell me how to get him to play it.
Uh. D&D (the core game) is just a gaming platform. There is no story - you either come up with that on your own or pick-up one of the campaign books.
Yeah, it's pretty hack & slash. You kill guys, take their stuff & level up. That's the appeal of the game. If you're looking for something other than that, I wouldn't recommend D&D.
i mean if you think make a good store i mean does the game work like other role plays. I just want to fine a good rp to stick with
I don't understand what you mean. You can roleplay in D&D, just like in any RPG, but while you're doing that you're also moving figs around a board and building-up characters on a pretty linear growth track.
What kind of gaming experience do you want? D&D is a lot like a board game. If you want something more narration driven, you need to look elsewhere (I'm not personally a big fan of heavily narration-driven games, so I can't really help you out there).
You can have a lot of plot and character-driven not-action going on in D&D but it requires players and a DM who are good role-players and who can entertain themselves without having to kill stuff every couple of hours.
see we have done two sessions like that before and it was good but i mean i like visual stuff it is fun to move models. i play Warhammer and warhammer 40k table top version so ...
see that is what we play and i want to get more board like some think visual you know what i mean ?
Yeah, okay. 4th Edition D&D should be right up your alley, then. Go pick-up the core books, some dungeon tiles and some figs, and you should be good to go.
