UPDATE 7: Super Paper Mario - To be released in APRIL! Mario finds himself in the interdimensional town of flipside as a black hole looms overhead along with floating math equations. You have to use the controller sideways moving the control pad and jumping with the 2 button (OLD SCHOOL!). A button allows you to switch from 2D to 3D and later in the game you’ll encounter creatures called Pixls that will give Mario new abilities that make an interesting use of the Wiimote. Tippy (a butterfly) allows you to search areas for secrets, you can point the Wiimote at the screen to spotlight hidden doors or learn info about the enemy. When you jump on an enemy, if you shake the Wiimote you can gain extra points. Game has graphical enhancements from the E3 build (the issue has new screenshots).

Doesn't, technically, make this the first Mario game on the Wii? :)

All Gamecube production has been discontinued. They underestimated demands for Wii.

But what pisses me off is that this game used to be more about straight up side scrolling, now they added all this new shit. W.T.F....

Umm, I think they've had that 2D to 3D stuff from the beginning. Though I'm wondering how the wiimote's capabilities might be used.

It was never about straight side scrolling. Once again people jumped to hasty conclusions and didn't read press release.

Between Wario this month, Sonic in March and this in April, we just might avoid the drought nay-sayers were predicting.

Anyway, I'm glad that the move to the Wii allowed the devs to add in some Wiimote-specific stuff... assuming it's done well. But hell, why wouldn't it be?

Right. Even the earliest screens of this showed the contrast between x-axis and z-axis gameplay.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here... I doubt it was ever PURE SIDEscrolling. All these magic things they added in with the remote were probably already in the game but activated with the gamecube controller. It's the same damn game with a different controller.

Yeah, I don't get why everyone was looking at this and was thinking it was going to be pure old school NES Mario. They very little we've seen so far shows play as Mario, bowser, and Peach, the little butterfly thing mentioned is in one of the videos, Mario is shooting enemies with a flamethrower of some sort, and HP numbers pop out of them, and they even showed the 2D to 3D stuff.

Plus it's a Paper Mario game, which is already different from classic Mario games enough as it is.

I was never super excited about the game, because so little was known. Knowing it's coming out fairly soon and hearing these cool Wii additions makes me much more excited about it.

I like the idea of really interacting with the world and enemies by moving the Wiimote.

Not to drive it into the ground, but I just realized.

Remember how strangely incredible the 2D intro/outro animations in Wario were? This game will almost entirely be that.
