Dear proXimity,
I dunno where my cd is =/
Love,
This guy.
Your CD is hopefully in the mail?
I didn't get yours until last week or so, and I'm sure you sent yours before mine. I'll post a review after I give it an intense listen-through again.
It was good, especially the stuff that was new to me. I really enjoyed the last song, since I've got a huge soft spot for organs. There was some other stuff that I'd known about but hadn't listened to much, and I've not been big on hip-hop, so Lupe and Mos Def are still relatively new to my ears.
Always nice to hear some Avi Buffalo.
All in all, good stuff. Would listen to again.
And I'm ready for the next round. I've got half a dozen mixes already in rough states of readiness.

Awesome I'm glad you enjoyed it.
I really liked the Summer feel to the cd, what I'm assuming are a slew of Canadian bands that I haven't heard of. So for Round 2 do we keep the same partner? If so then the next cd will be in the mail in the next couple days.
The plotting for round 2 has started. I'd wager a new thread will be forthcoming soon. Really, did everyone get their CD's? I'd feel like a tool if we started a new thread, and folks had yet to get the goods.

Same here on the waiting, but I imagine second round would be another partner just to shake it up a bit.
proX: Did you use my real person name on the address thing? That might confuse the dudes who handle the mail out here if you used my forum handle.
I think if you guys enjoyed each others mixes a bunch and wanted to exchange more, more power to ya.
Really enjoyed the entire cd my first listen through. Currently checking out tracks that really stuck out again.
The Captains Wife's Lament was pretty damn hilarious, because I wasn't expecting it.
I think Skylife is my favorite thing on the cd, but I think that's because I was reminded of a bunch of tracks I had way back when that somebody did an orchestrated version of a bunch of Zelda songs (mostly from OoT{?}). Speaking of that, going to have to try and find that and see if its an actual cd I can buy, because the computer I had those songs on died a long time ago.
Also really liked the covers in there.
I really liked it. Thanks for the great mix!

Malkor: I like the cd! I'm definitely going to try to work some of this stuff into my rotation. Do you have a track list handy? Itunes insists on being stupid and everything is unnamed.
I have the letter and thus all the bandnames so I can definitely start from there too in looking into these guys.
Oh man, awesome. I can't wait to hear what you think about it!
Yours still hasn't arrived. Every day I open the mailbox with bated breath, but alas, nothing!
Its sweet. You are p awesome. Lots of extended thoughts in spoiler.
I've listened to most of it. Had to break out my laptop cause the cd drive in my PC is totally dead.
I think track 15 and 16 are swapped as far as title and stuff goes.
Also for some reason my laptop won't play that last three tracks, but I listened to them on youtube thanks to your helpful book.
Its an awesome CD.
I like the overall mood, it starts out rocking, gets a little slower in the middle, then ends with that sick Symphony X song.
The new Prodigy stuff is awesome. I enjoyed them in the 90's but had not kept up to their current stuff. I think I like Warrior's Dance a little more than Omen, but they are both good.
Same goes for the Ben Folds stuff.. I loved Ben Folds Five, Brick is one of my favorite songs ever, but again I had not kept up with his stuff. Of the two on the CD I think I like Protection a little bit more, but both are good.
Thank you so much for introducing me to Imogen Heap stuff. I think I had heard of it vaguely but never really looked into it. She is awesome. When I have money I will use it to purchase one of her albums.
Of the two on the CD, I initially liked Headlock more than Hide and Seek, but for some reason I have just been listening to Hide and Seek over and over.
Other standouts: The Spencer Day song is good. Reminds me of Michael Buble kind of. Too bad the rest of his stuff is apparently kind of meh.
The Gnarls Barkley stuff is good, although I like Crazy more than Transformer.
I need to listen to it all the way through again before I have better thoughts on some of the other stuff. I kind of just got obsessed with the Prodigy stuff and the Imogen Heap stuff this evening.

Oh man, I'm sorry the last three songs didn't work.
Also I'm interested to know...at the end of Relax (Take it Easy) by Mika, did it still have the whole thing about the woman talking about her wedding? It's the lead-in to the next song, and I tried to clip it out on Audacity, but when I listen to the playlist in my car, it still has it. I though I'd switched out the songs, but maybe I didn't.
I'm really glad you like Imogen Heap! My Top 5 gets kind of jumbled sometimes, as I switch artists around and whatnot, but she usually sits around 2 or 3 for me. I know what you mean about Hide and Seek; it's definitely a song that gets better and better every time you listen to it. I still hear new things every time I listen to it. I forgot to mention, she did an album called iMegaphone which...isn't very good. Or, at least, it's really not like the rest of her music; it's almost like someone else did it. Definitely pick up Speak for Yourself first, followed VERY VERY closely by the album Details by Frou Frou, which she did writing and singing for.
I found The Prodigy's new album just by listening to the Kick-Ass soundtrack, and I'm very pleased. Warrior Dance and Omen are easily the best two songs on their new album, but the rest is pretty fantastic too.
Ben Folds' new stuff is arguably inferior to his Ben Folds Five stuff, but Songs for Silverman has some great stuff on it, and Way to Normal sort of grew on me after awhile. If you're looking for individual songs that he's done since he went solo, Landed and You Don't Know Me are great examples off their respective albums.
I'll look forward to more commentary, if you're up to it. I love talking about my music, as you can tell, so if you have any questions (or suggestions!) I'll be ready to discuss them!
No I don't remember hearing that on that Mika song. But honestly I need to listen to the back half of the CD again to really let it sink in.
I look forward to listening to some new Ben Fold's stuff and more Prodigy stuff, along with totally new stuff like Imogen Heap.
Hmm, other commentary: Well, a couple of songs didn't really grab me. The Basement Jaxx song seemed..ok. I didn't really like the singer for some reason.
That MSPA song was ok. It was pretty jazzy. Maybe it has more impact if you know how it relates to MSPA? Eh.
The Regina Spektor song was awesome. I think I have seen her linked in [chat] before, but never listened to it. Amazing voice.
I vaguely recognized that Falling Slowly song, although I have not seen that movie. Also nice, good vocals.
The Hop Chip song was good, I liked the slow build up.
Oh and I still need to listen to the Touches You song from Mika. My media player just stopped working halfway through that song.
The Regina Spektor song was awesome. I think I have seen her linked in [chat] before, but never listened to it. Amazing voice.
What song, because lately I've been on a huge spree for her music. She is pretty damn amazing, and I think on my mix I put in Folding Chair.
I still want to get the 11:11 album and Songs.
She also needs to come out with a cd of her covering awesome songs.
And who is still waiting on their cd? Because I think it is approaching round 2 time.

Right now I was just making sure everyone else clears the first list before we start the second.
I got mine from Beren a while ago, but left the country immediately after and didn't get a chance to listen to it. I just got back the other day so I'll probably have a proper sit down with it on Sunday.
Has Mmmm.... Cocks.... checked in? It's been awhile since I heard hide nor hair of that boy and I want to make sure his package arrived safely.
Huzzah! Yes sir, sorry I was between school and home and now I'm currently on vacation in Cali (your state) I actually waited till I got here to send yours because I figured it would be better off (CDs break and it traveling one state rather then like.. 10 or whatever)
Did you get yours? The lady actually said today for the delivery date.
To tell you the truth I recognized very little. I haven't listened since I left on vacation but IIRC I really enjoyed most of it. Mostly stuff I would enjoy playing in the background as I go on about my day.
I'll post some specifics on what I think when I get back. I have yet to compare your notes that you sent me however.
Oh and I liked the nice "touch" you had near the end there, made me laugh.
I PM'ed his ass, asking if I could put on the second one.
I was thinking though that we'd start a new thread with each new cd swap, but I suppose keeping it in the same thread would be fine.
I still owe my partner a CD. I've been working 7 days a week with ridiculously long hours. I will try to make up for it in awesomeness, but I will not bail on you. It'll just be late, so... sorry bout that.

I'm thinking of cranking up round two early next week as well.

Just got it today and I recognize some of the artists, I don't recognize any of the songs. It's good though.
Track 2 with the Classic Rock/Blues feel going into binary and talking about the periodic table is pretty awesome.
Malkor! Here are the thoughts concerning the CD that YOU sent ME
Operation Ivy: These guys are probably the closest to what I subconsciously think of when I think 'punky'. Basically I had my impressions of punk formed by tony hawk games, I guess.
I am digging Dillinger Four. They have a pretty 'punk'(I am probably going to confuse punk with reggae and/or ska throughout this review SiA) sound but they switch it up with other genres and sort of weave in and out of them. in the songs represented here anyway.
Also I listen to what the kids are listening to these days but I have never heard of The Wonder Years. How can this be? As a terrible hipster I don't know if I am supposed to like the absurdity of Dude, What is A Land Pirate or scoff at is sincerity. Being a hipster is hard. It's hard and no one tells you how to do it.
Boys Life is, I'm almost a little embarrassed to admit, shamefully relevant to my interests. Homecoming is def a standout track to me, the stripped down guitar, slightly dissonant notes, the loud drums. Very familiar, it begs a comparison to Modest Mouse in its own way, especially their Lonesome Crowded West era sound. I wouldn't be surprised at all if Isaac listened to them.
Kid Dynamite is hardcore? More like fastcore. Because they have a minute song. Hahhhhh. I actually thought Table 19 and The Ronald Miller Story were the same song.
I checked with my Punk Friend and he assured me that Face to Face is "p amazing". He also assured me that it was okay to like old time Blink 182. Whew. Thematically they go pretty well together as far as I'm picking the lyrics out. It is like punk melancholy. TBQH I am not used to lyrics being so straightforward. I guess punks do not beat around the bush. Oh jeez the segue from Ordinary to Sometimes threw me off. It's like the same progression pitched up a few notches.
Is it unfair to generalize that lots of punk songs concern themselves with relational conflicts? Because that is the impression I am getting so farrrrr. That's sort of what I have to say on Goldfinger/Pulley. It's alright but nothing stands out at me.
I am enjoying Strung Out though. In a CD full of energetic punk kids they somehow come off as a little more frenetic to me.
Here is what Scared of Chaka sings: hey, hey, you, you i don't like your boyfriend hth
NOFX seems pretty polished for punk. I think. Fairly polished. As far as Punk goes. I liked them!
Sorry I don't listen to music from New Jersey. Bigwig is just right out. It occurs to me that these guys are all screaming pretty loud but their vocal levels aren't set above the other instruments. I guess that was more a pixies schtick. I find my ears prick up the most when they go out of their standard punk chord progressions but it never lasts too too long. It's definitely fun boppy music but I'm not sure it's something I'd actively listen to. maybe drive to/play/dootherstuffto. is that how punk is usually consumed or do I just need to pay more attention?
I share bigwig's passion for bears and their disdain for muff, but on the other hand less so with not liking a girl's boyfriend and maybe thinking that she should get a new one. I was about to be harder on these guys but then I noticed that apparently this stuff is coming from 1982. Which both means they are waaay ahead of their time but man I couldn't...I couldn't tell that this stuff is 28 years old! I feel like I am taking crazy pills.
So yeah that's I guess where I'm left with the punk/ska/thing. None of this stuff offended my senses and some of it here and there stood out to me, but at the same time it's a struggle not to write 'that certainly was a punk song' twenty-eight times. I feel like the music is speaking a different language that I barely no, so all the nuance is lost on me. But for better or worse it's on the brain these days so I'll probably cement my thoughts on it in the weeks to come.
Thanks for the CD and the letter! Sorry it took me a bit to get down to actually writing this stuff out.

Hopefully we can start the 2nd cd swap thing sometime next week.

I was thinking though that we'd start a new thread with each new cd swap, but I suppose keeping it in the same thread would be fine.
I PM'd the Jokerman a while back, so nada.
I'm thinking of cranking up round two early next week as well.
'tis cool. No rush.
Just got it today and I recognize some of the artists, I don't recognize any of the songs. It's good though.
Track 2 with the Classic Rock/Blues feel going into binary and talking about the periodic table is pretty awesome.
