I'm fine with slot reservations as long as there's some way for it to not disconnect me from my current game only to be dropped due to slot reservation and then lose my slot in the previous server.

Okay, so as far as I know, all the old misc slot items are still in teh same misc slot (#1) while there's nothing for misc slot #2.

I wonder what Valve is planning? Custom shoes? Pants?

Or did they just screw up and meant to put stuff like the Camera Beards and Ear Buds onto misc slot one, and stuff like the medals into misc slot 2?

It's been a long while since I've played TF2, but I am excited about the Engineer update. I'll probably wait a bit for the Engineer rush to wear down, but I am looking forward to claiming my robo-hand.

I made a private server and used my dad's account and some bots get the 17 achievements, took maybe two and a half hours.

You can do most of them yourself using bot_mimic, it shouldn't even take that long. Just takes some creativity. You can even do stuff like get medics to heal you, engies to drop buildings, etc.

Neat. It's been so long I didn't even realize TF2 had bots now. Suppose I'll have to dick around with them a bit to try and figure out how they work.

i agree with most of your post, endaro, but the amount of time it takes to redeploy a level 3 sentry is ridiculous

redeploying naturally makes a building build at 2x speed

it can be wrenched to go at 4x speed

2.5 seconds to redeploy a sentry. 1 second per upgrade. 4.5 seconds for a level 3 sentry.

not only that, but it starts at full health, can be repaired while building, and seems to heal itself while building. i take the "healing itself" to be the health it would gain if it started at 0 health, but it doesn't.

I tried some things out, for testing purposes:
Normal level 1sentry building naturally with no wrench hits: ~10.5/11 seconds.

Normal level 1 sentry building naturally with wrench hits: ~5.5/6 seconds.

Level 1 sentry redeploying without wrench hits: ~5.5/6 seconds.

Level 1 sentry redeploying with wrench hits: ~3 seconds

Level 2 sentry redeploying without wrench hits: ~7 seconds.

Level 2 sentry redeploying with wrench hits: ~5 seconds.

Level 3 sentry redeploying without wrench hits: ~8.5/9 seconds.

Level 3 sentry redeploying with wrench hits: ~6.5 seconds.

The time measured was from when the sentry began deploying until it was operational/could be picked up. There is a tendency for a slight delay between when you click, when the game receives it, and when it begins to deploying, which I tried to compensate for by starting the clock just after clicking. As a result, actual times might be a smidge (.5 seconds) longer than what you might expect in battle.

The numbers seem to agree with a marked speed increase from both redeploying and wrenching (both being equal in speed increase). However your estimate of 4.5 seconds for a redeploying lv 3 is quite a bit off.

What it comes down to is what you do with those 6.5 seconds. That would be more than enough time for a demoman to lay down plenty of stickies, or most other combat classes take out the engie himself. Right now people are not quite used to the change, and focus on the gun, thinking the engie is just putting up a new level 1. 9 times out of 10 on a normal server those 6.5 seconds is going to be too slow to do any of the dramatic moves we're seeing lately. You can't plop it down in front of another sentry, and unless you have a concentrated engie team keeping it up it wont work to stick yourself out in to dangerous territory. At worst it might allow for easier sentry spawn camping.

Any engie that manages to get so close to the front line and go unnoticed for 6.5 seconds as a giant gun assembles deserves any ensuing chaos. Will it get nerfed? Quite possibly. Does it need to be? Not nearly as much as a lot of people think.

I've just realised that it's going to be a lot easier for me to play spy now. I'm not going to sap sentries all the time, just wait for the engy the pick it up then plant a dagger in his back. No more choked stab and saps for me.

I really want to play a good spy but I get too confused. The only amount of sucsess I've had with a spy is playing it like a scout, using my revolver a lot, advancing with the team and only cloaking when I want to peek around a corner, escape, or dash behind a heavy for a backstab.

I think I'm going to sinply not use disguises and stick to playing with my revolver and knife a lot more on the battle-lines. Push the cart/capping points with the team wearing no disguise, shooting classes with low-ish health, cloaking and dashing behind classes that won't die from 3 or 4 revolver shots.

That's pretty much how I started out playing as spy. You might want to try disguising as an enemy spy, might ward off some fire while you try to line up a shot.

Stab and saps are so satisfying, though it's hard to find lone sentries at the moment.

I can't switch weapons fast enough to pull off the "sap and stab" maneuver. By the time I've switched to the knife the engineer has knocked off the sapper and the sentry takes me out immediately.

    Use the Q key.

i estimated 1 second per upgrade simply because i couldn't find the actual values of how long the upgrade animation takes on the wiki, but really i do not think that an engineer going unnoticed for 6.5 seconds deserves the genocide that will come from this.

    honestly, imagine PIPELINE

you know how often engi corp already gets a level 1 sentry up above the enemy spawn? redeploying a level 3 sentry will take just about as long. the spawncamping capabilities are ridiculous. just did it on gravelpit a few minutes ago. pretty easy to go out the A to C tunnel that leads underneath C and drop a level 3 in range of both their spawn exits. people don't spawn every 6.5 seconds on defense.

though i will agree that once things quiet down it might be a lot easier to deal with than it is now, i still think that level 3s should take just a LITTLE longer to redeploy.

I would agree that spawn camping is the biggest possible problem with the sentries right now, though I would say that spawn camping sentries are no where near as bad as spawn camping demo's or just about anything with a medic, which isn't going to get fixed by valve.

It's important to keep in mind how vulnerable the engie is in getting to set up these scenarios. He has to get to that spawn safely first, waddling as slow as a heavy with no way to spycheck or fight back any class he bumps in to along the way. A demo, or even worse a couple of demo's and a medic, can get there faster, kill people/defend themselves along the way, and pose a larger threat once they get there.

He knows how it works. No need to explain it over and over. The point is how poorly it was written. I don't know if you guys were playing yesterday but we had people asking that same question all day long. It was poorly written, and seems to imply you get crits for kills, assists, and if you lose your sentry. It doesn't state clearly at all that you don't get them until the sentry dies.
