I forgot what map it was, but I got a glorious 18 kills in 1 life on my sentry on the last point on a payload map with a heavy backing me up. Then I got about 10 more after I came back to life and time ran out.

He knows how it works. No need to explain it over and over. The point is how poorly it was written. I don't know if you guys were playing yesterday but we had people asking that same question all day long. It was poorly written, and seems to imply you get crits for kills, assists, and if you lose your sentry. It doesn't state clearly at all that you don't get them until the sentry dies.
I understood it well enough after a few seconds of looking at it. Or do people just skim all the time?

i definitely thought it was crits per kill, assist, and every time your sentry is destroyed as well. i completely missed the part that said "racked up before destruction" and apparently i'm not the only one
Someone should make a vanilla TF2 servermod. All original weapons and no changes, as if you were playing on launch day. Would be interesting to see how far we've come.
Thanks for all the fun games in the drama chamber this afternoon. This is the first time that new maps really made a hugely positive impression on me right away. Can't wait until all you weekend engineers get that building itch out of your systems.
also noscope mcgee, i think i would play what you are suggesting (no items, just engine fixes etc), but i think i wouldn't enjoy it as much as items filled tf2
major reason being, however stupid the drop, achievement, and crafting systems may be, i think the items are critical to why this game always feels interesting
unless you are talking about removing the dorp, achievement, and crafting systems

The Gunslinger is pretty cool but it baffles me when I see someone just toss down a mini-sentry in a defense spot and leave it there forever. Especially with the Wrangler.
Simple fact of the matter is we're all still playing TF2 because of the items. If not for them we'd have stopped ages ago.
I quit playing Tf2 once the item craze started, for the most part. In fact, the items are mostly shitty except for the most recent class updates - my demo and soldier outfits are usually entirely vanilla, unless I need to use the buff banner for a push.
So we are now in the "In one day, I have determined that the weapons that spent several months in development had no thought put into them" phase of Update Madness?
Also, I am basically having no fun with TF2 right now, in large part because half the time I couldn't tell where the fucking sentries were shooting from (on KOTH_Sawmill). The other half of the time I was trying to destroy a gun with three engineers on it while being attacked by the other side's rocket crew, who seemed to have none of the same problems I was having.
It's getting to the point where I know that the problem is something I'm doing, because I'm the only constant factor in all the losing teams I've been on lately.

You're nuts if you're not using the Equalizer 100% of the time, the Buff Banner is a good sidegrade and the Direct Hit is a great engie counter. The Demoman patch was pretty much just good for people who don't play Demoman though.

Not true.
I still play on vanilla servers half the time.
Unless you're talking about the purely cosmetic items, like hats. In which case I will admit they add a bit of nice flavour to proceedings.
I can do without half the items though. I dont use any soldier ones, nor any for the scout or heavy.
i was unaware there were any servers that removed items
There's a million that simply have it in the rules, and a load that have it hard in the server settings. You should totally try it, it's very refreshing.
What it highlights is how well balanced things would be without half the newer items. Especially highlander or 6 man.
The only item I will say that should absolutely have been in the vanilla game and that I do miss is the Kritzkreig. It's a nice dynamic.

It's called the PS3 version.
Edit: which seems acceptable since it was like ~2 gigs at launch and just looking at it now seems to be ~9500 Mb.
I turned everything to low, put the resolution down to 1280x800 and i'm still getting 10-20fps. Maybe it's time to upgrade my machine.
Getting rid of the whole item system while keeping the bug fixes and maps and stuff would be pretty great actually.
Try an FPS script in the meantime? Not the N64 one, though.
nope.avi
and I love punching people in the face with my new metal fist.
I couldn't find yep.avi so pretend that the demoman says "yep" and that you're the engineer okay

i thought i was okay with getting the modest pile of hat
but i really should have thought crafting random hats over and just taken a 4th metal and crafted an engineer hat

for our might fistings are mighty
I did get the football helmet today though 8-)
bro you should've waited for polycount
(which i'm assuming is coming out within a month)
(this is needlessly optimistic)
because of his metal hand of might
but i saw crash crafting his hats and i got excited
i forgot how many hats i could get that i didn't like
though i don't mind the bonk helm and like the gatsby a lot for a medic hat, it could have been worse
it was a close one
you are not a true lawnmower joe until you tauntkill somebody successfully
i need to upload that demo of me doing that to someone out of a teleporter last night

The Kritzkrieg will always be my one true love. Pushing one button and watching a Heavy mow down half of the enemy team makes me cackle with glee.

Holy shit, that worked? is the best I can surmise of his expression

and a lot that have a ton of uses
so i don't get where you're feeling that items are shitty
edit: this is to the guy i am too lazy to quote that is making fun of items

I can kind of understand scout and heavy, but you don't use the Equalizer!? Whhhyyy!?
