The Guiding Principles and New Rules document is now in effect.
Kenta Cho has taken another classic arcade shmup and made it into an addictive, bullet-hell-esque masterpiece. This time, galaga.
Little bug-like things buzz around your ship shooting bullets at you, and you have to kill them all. You can also shoot them with a little tractor beam in some modes to capture and use them to fire more shots. Very addicting and fun.
Lots of Java and freeware shmups. Worth a look for any fan of the genre.
Neo Rasa on
"You know how Batman hangs people over the edge of buildings and gets them to spill information. That's Neo Rasa's way of it, but instead of information, he just likes to see people suffer." ~Senor Fish
Old and unattended enough that this is the new thread.
Torus Trooper still seems to be my favorite of these for some reason. It's not THAT great. I'm a sucker for Tempest-esque/Space Harrier type games though.

I just wanted another chance to show off my fantabulous hi-score.
Torus Trooper is my favorite too, but I think this might replace it. It's also really fast and shows more cool 3-d stuff. I'm sure mu-cade was cool too, but I could never understand that game...
Torus Trooper is amazement, though I kind of have no idea what's going on.
It's time based, you lose when you run out of time, you get time for beating bosses, bosses appear when you kill a certain number of enemies. I only noticed the thing about when bosses appear recently, there's a little number in the corner that counts your total number, and a number next to it that is how many more you have to kill to make a boss appear.
Most of the time, I have no idea how I'm surviving in that game, i just move back and forth, and use the x shot when there's too many bullets.
Man, I'm so trying this when I get home from work. I play Gunroar and Parsec 47 all of the time. Something about the wireframe graphics and bullet-hell goodness ... anyway, totally stoked about this, although I honestly couldn't get into Torus Trooper and that other Snake-like one he did (forget the name).
Torus Trooper is awesome, but I like rRootage the best bullet hell shmups.
Yeah, rRootage is my favorite as well. It has a lot of slowdown on the later stages (though I'm not sure if that's the game's fault or that of my computer), but it's still a really cool game.
Just in case people missed it (which I'm pretty sure they did) Tolito interviewed Kenta Cho a while back. Here's the youtube link since mtv's site is balls awful.

New game gets its own thread. Alert the mods.
...
Goddamn it, I'm still not happy with my performance in Parsec 47, and I never could play Torus Trooper for long.
It's not, there's a small but dedicated following for Kenta Cho's work on the board here so any news of new releases is welcome.

I think we had a thread for this months ago.
You are not mistaken!

Downloading Torus Trooper, which looks awesome.

which will probably be beaten shortly...

Is it just one guy who does this all with his Japanese ninja skills or is it a bunch of people who do it?
Either way, this one is an awesome update to Galaga.
Modern mode I got to phase 30 something on my first try.
Woo.
I KISS YOU!
