My impression by the end of it, is rather simple; it's just Deus Ex, but worse. Aren't sequels supposed to add things? I can't think of a single feature IW had that the first game didn't. Conversely, they didn't take anything out. All the features from the first game were there. They were just implemented worse, or oversimplified, or not done correctly.
... but I... I do not have it installed. Anywhere. At all.
I have an excuse, however; I do not own a PC - in fact, I haven't owned one in years - premade PC's are too expensive, and I lack the technical know-how to construct my own PC.
So what you're saying is that you're JC Denton and you can connect to computers through a thing in your brain, because otherwise I'm having trouble imagining how you're posting here.
You guys are missing the obvious motivation for drugging. The developers didn't have any time to construct a smooth transition to everett's place, so they just said "fuck it, we're drugging him."
Seems like it would have been easy enough to get Everett to say, "Go see Atanwe. He will bring you back to the metro station, and your helicopter pilot is waiting outside." More transitions, sure, but it would have made a lot more sense plot-wise than, "You can't know our location! Here is our location."
If you hack both Sam Carter's and Jock's computer's you'll find out that they're probably both Illuminati agents.

University and/or library (or university libraries, bro)
Jintor got it in one; work dudes, I'm like responsible and have a mortgage and what a career. Which is code for work I actually enjoy.
Also: my vision is augmented*.
Spoint, the link between Deus Ex and Fallout: New Vegas is actually Alpha Protocol, which I finished there a few weeks ago. They all have the same sense of "sneak around and sabotage shit", whilst blending RPG and shooting mechanics.
... Alpha Protocol fails at doing this, incidentally, but I'll forgive it due to the ambitious multi-branch story arc (for which there are other threads to discuss same).
Comical observation from DE1: (VersaLife Office Type): "Haven't got a jot of work done today!" - as an Irish person, I find this hysterically bad. I wonder how Chinese people feel whenever Tracer Tong opens his mouth. While the Versa Life employee sounds like a leprechaun with a pot of gold lodged up his arse, TT is just plain rascist.
... that I recall somebody in this thread saying that they used authentic Chinese voice actors perturbs me.
*Questions were raised as to why I wear sunglasses indoors and speak in a monotone.
So I got DE1 for the PS2 because my roomate has a PS2, and for the first time ever playing DE I did the Illuminati ending first. Not because I trust Dowd particularly, but because I realized that the Illuminati ending is the only ending which trusts human beings to govern themselves on a global scale.

Problem is you didn't really play Deus Ex.
You played a horrendously gimped port that is far less fantawesome than the pc version.

Ah, you misunderstand me.
For the first time in a game of DE I did the Illuminati ending first.
Deus Ex was the first FPS I ever played when I was 13, got it in the Eidos 4 pack that had Lara Croft, Theif 2 and Commandos. Commandos was my first RTS and Lara Croft got me into porn, which is a long story, but the point is, I owe a lot to that 4 pack
But playing the Conspiracy had some weird parts to it, partially because I'm playing 'actively' and thinking about the story, partially because I was explaining a lot of the story to my roomates, and partially because I knew all the tricks so even playing on Realistic without much console skillz I kicked ass after Liberty Island.
But yeah, the plot just seems a lot less...adult, now that I'm playing it as an adult. The whole all conspiracies are true thing gets a bit grating over time. Don't get me wrong, Deus Ex 1 is so far one of the few games that used the medium of video games to its fullest for telling a story, but the story itself is pretty grating, maybe just on me though. I'm looking forward to DE3 because I love the series, but also because transhumanism is a lot more gripping for me than the Trilateral Commission.

The PS2 port is actually surprisingly faithful, for a PS2 port of a large-scope PC game. Granted, it's not as good as the real version of the game, but at the time it came out, it was pretty impressive. Honestly, in retrospect I almost prefer the PS2 version's inventory system to the PC version's item tetris window.

I might even venture that it's a better port than the PC port of IW
That, uh, was my point. They cut down the area sizes to accommodate for the xbox's ridiculously tiny RAM but didn't stitch them back together for the pc "port"
Sigh, foolish people. The easy solution is just to never, ever uninstall Deus Ex. With hard drive space so cheap these days, there's really no good reason at all to ever delete it anyway. I've got it on my laptop even though I virtually never play games on it; I like having it there just in case. No telling if I'll have to go on an unexpected trip and suddenly feel the need to wear sunglasses at night.
I agree with you on every point. But you forgot a key element.
Deus Ex HR may be the game I'm looking forward to the most for the next year.
I'm just wondering how well my PC will handle it.
I have high hopes for HR, I think it will be great. The art direction alone tells me that this is a proper sequel/prequel. It doesn't try to just copy and paste the original, but it builds on the key elements and foundations of the world.

If it helps any, "Sunglasses at Night" is pretty much what I always think of instantly whenever I think of Deus Ex. It goes without saying, really.
EDIT: So. Much. Headbob.

And they did the same for the third Thief. Meh.

So I just finished the first game. Saw all three endings because why not.
IMO, the Helios one fit the most. It was also the coolest.

It was a limitation of the engine itself, if I recall. They couldn't stitch them together if they wanted to.
You notice it less in Deadly Shadows, since it's a slower game and you don't have to go back and forth between transitions.
I assume the 'dashed line computer monitor' is radar transparency, but what's the 'computer monitor with the plus inside it', given that regen is the circle with a plus?
I like that the security console looked just like the ones in the original.
Time for Media Blackout methinks.

My Deus Ex history consists of playing IW on the original Xbox. It was frustrating (long load times, frame-rate issues in firefights) but it was ok.
I recently picked up DE1 and IW on Steam for cheap. For a first run through of the original I'm guessing the only mods I should use would be graphical? Or any there any others you guys could recommend?

Monitor regeneration. With augmented arms, you can't begin to magine the number of tv screens he's put Wiimotes through.
Seriously though, looks pretty badass. They definitely are trying to keep in all the good gameplay elements from the original, so hopefully the whole thing holds up.
And as fr mods for the original DX, yeah I'd say stick with just graphical mods. You'll probably want to play through it again, so Shifter can wait until you've go a feel for the game.
That looked pretty damn good. It might not be Deus Ex Classic, but its certainly a flavour I can enjoy.
That reminded me a lot of Project Snowblind, which I'm playing now for the first time. It seems like it'll be Snowblind levels of funtime-shooty mixed with inventory-crunchy-goodness.
Especially that see-through-walls aug. That was lifted directly from Snowblind, even the visual of it. Green world, yellow people.
Lookin' good.
Edit: Forgot about sneaky-funtimes and prodding people. Saw a shot of a vent being opened, but still haven't seen any prods and batons. Still waiting on those prods and batons.

We've said it before really. It's a bad Deus Ex game. It's still an okay game in and of itself though.

What did you think of the game as a whole?
Be interesting to hear from someone playing for the first time 10 years after release.
Also didn't mind the voice acting much at all. I thought it was adequate at best, hilarious at worst. :P

I dunno though, I always play it vanilla.
For all the faults of the second game, it expands on the Helios ending in a pretty neat way.
Do we have a release estimate on Human Revolution yet?

There was no editing. That's how it plays. You have to do everything in fits and stars. Very difficult.

You should really try it, makes the greatest game ever made just that little bit better.
Kind of like making Scarlett Johansson's lips just that bit more plump and shiny.
So hard to keep myself from overhyping this.

All the different augs and all the different skill trees within those augs
Also seeing the ammo on your gun is awesome. Riddick, Dead Space, and now Deus Ex
