I keep meaning to pick up Bloodlines on Steam but I really can't justify spending 15 quid on it when I compare it to stuff I got for a couple of pounds in sales, even though it's a great game.
The hell, why'd they push it back when it was supposedly almost done?
Don't know, maybe they're fixing the small head syndrome.
At least part of it is them tinkering with the AI for the PC because of the control advantages mouse/keyboard gives pc players, so they're making the AI more sneaksy

I seem to recall that it goes on sale fairly regularly, if you catch one of those it's absolutely worth it.

I have never, ever seen it go on sale on Steam's US store. I'm not claiming it never has, but since I started using Steam heavily I've never actually seen it go on sale.
The last time Bloodlines was on sale on Steam was 2008. It goes on sale more frequently at other digital distribution services.
Shogun Gamer had a live-blog of the PAX East event. The main new tidbits were
The game will have exclusive content on the PC and it will have directX 11 support.[strike]
Demo will be released on Steam, PSN, and XBL. No date announced.
[/strike]
Edit: Word seems to be the demo was not mentioned at all during the Q&A so assume it is false until proven otherwise.
Well, I finally got around to making BioMod 1.0. All the major bugs are fixed, and everything is tweaked and balanced to my satisfaction, so it should be safe for anyone at this point.
You can get it from here, or from ModDB whenever they get around from authorizing it.
1.0
===
-Updated Shifter version to 1.8.4
-Fixed bug preventing the correct animation from playing when changing ammo
-Fixed certain flags not being set correctly in autosaves
-Fixed buttons in elevators being dragged out of place
-Removed accuracy reset when toggling scope
-Made the amount of health restored by regen depend on its level again
-Fixed the ordering of the difficulty levels for challenges as it was based on a misconception
-Reduced forward momentum when mantling
-Removed Shifter's skill system
-Removed multiplayer from the main menu as it's not supported
-Restored auto-equipping of multitools (apparently it was lost sometime between beta 1 and now)
-Added no skills challenge
-Added console command to toggle unscoped crosshairs
-Hid some WP grenades in the levels
-Removed NPC's using fire extinguishers because it was really hacky
Console / PC Versions are different (no details as to HOW they are different, more info to follow at a later date).
No swords in the game
More non-standard weapons that we haven't seen yet
Regenerating health (with equippable items that can temporarily boost or buff your health)
Unified damage system (no damage to individual body parts, like head damage effecting your vision, or an arm shot effecting your accuracy)
Melee takedowns use energy
No mod support (yet)
Possible connection between Jensen and Denton
Mines and Grenades are separate items, but can be combined (for different effects)
Unified damage I can live with, because any time a limb was crippled I would use a medpack specifically to remove the negative effect. No swords I can definitely live with. The original Deus Ex had like what, 3 swords at most? And only one of those was any good and it was a top secret project to develop the best sword in the history of forever? It's not like we'd be able to play with that in a prequel and we DO have those arm blades so, yeah, I'm fine.
I always liked part specific damage are enemies. I want to be able to stop a guy from shooting me by shooting his arm.
It's an interesting feature to throw in, but on the other hand, shooting him in the face stops him from shooting you just as well. It's not like it was an efficient means of dealing with enemies, since they'd just run around hitting alarms and alerting everyone to your presence anyway.
It usually allowed me to get out my baton and hit his back as he was running away when I had taken out most of the enemies and the one remaining asshole spotted me.

Very slowly unless you take a specific aug. Like, so slowly it's not useful in the middle of combat.

I'm fairly ok with the unified damage thing because it's the sort of thing which only ever seems to be used against the player instead of being applied to everyone.
And I'm completely OK with the regenerating health bit. What do you do in the original game if you take some damage in a fight? You either heal up right away, use the regen aug, or go track down a medbot. So the new regen health doesn't work in combat and makes it so you don't have to waste time running off to find medbots or spend time bothering with one of the fifty billion medkits you'll probably find anyway.
And no swords is also fine because, c'mon, there's a reason nobody fights with swords anymore. It turns out that guns are totally awesome at killing things and can do so at ranges which would make sword designs impossible at best.

I mostly remember the sudden pang of regret when, lucidity piercing my bloodlust, I realized the person I just brought the blade of god down upon was a MIB.

I used that sword as much as a flashlight as I did a weapon.

While that is more understated than the title theme from the first game, it really does set the tone well. Let's hope the rest of the game's music follows suit :^:
I'm replaying Deus Ex as a gun focused character. I'm loving it. It lets you find shit most games would be screaming from the rooftops and force you to see in overly long drawn out cutscenes. For example, there is the former leader of the Illuminati at Everette's hideout that you can euthanize. I also keep on accidentally backtracking because I want to see every goddamn route through an area.

I gotta say, working with hindsight (i.e. on second and later playthroughs), I've always really enjoyed the switch that occurs after you're captured. I play nonlethal up to a certain point, with one or two exceptions, and then I finally pull out the sniper rifle I've been tinkering with since I took it off the unconscious form of an NSF terrorist on Liberty Island and paint the walls red.
Because when you get out of the facility, and find yourself where you find yourself, I imagine it's a point where you go snap and just say, "Fuck it. Just FUCK IT. EVERYBODY DIES EVENTUALLY, WHY NOT NOW?" And eventually you calm down, and go back to nonlethal if it's certain kinds of baddies, but from that point on, most of your enemies are of the sort that provoked the switch, so you end them.
Admittedly you've gained augmentations and new equipment since Liberty Island, but the sheer slaughter JC is capable of when he's decided it's time to take off the kid gloves is always very impressive.

I follow the same pattern. There's a certain point in the game where I figure that all the soldiers I'm facing pretty much know that they signed up with the Bad Guys. Then I start icing dudes. So many dudes.

The aiming aug is really useful early on before you have upgraded a weapon skill or weapon to have maximum accuracy. I switched the middle mouse button to turn it off and on. The game doesn't seem to recognize the two side mouse buttons.
In my case, I made the mistake of upgrading a goddamn stealth pistol. Why does its damage suck so badly? The sniper rifle with a silencer makes a better close range stealth weapon than that goddamn piece of shit.
Taking out Maggie Chow with a sniper rifle from the building across the street just felt right.
