I’ll tell you what happens in Demon’s Souls when you die. You come back as a ghost with your health capped at half. And when you keep on dying, the alignment of the world turns black and the enemies get harder. That’s right, when you fail in this game, it gets harder. Why? Because fuck you is why.
It's probably already been mentioned, but when it comes to a "hang out with your buddies playing videogames and drinking Mt Dew until the sun comes up" experience, it's hard to beat Bushido Blade 2.
It's easy, you play Bushido Blade 1. Bushido Blade 1 is perfect, it did not need a sequel.
I liked it when I first played it, but when I saw some videos of it recently the game looks like a gigantic pain in the ass. There's a ton of backtracking you have to do for no reason. Oh you want in this temple? Well it's a laughing door, so you have to go aaaaaaall the way back to the forest about 10 screens away to eat a mushroom that will make you laugh. You laugh randomly though, so you're going to have to jump all the way back to the temple, as you can't stop in mid-air to laugh, and up to the door. Oh look, there's a crying door right next to it. Back to the forest you go!

I swear Silent Hill uno was the scariest game ever on the PS. Also had fun with the usual big hitters FF 7-9, MGS etc etc. Resident Evils were pretty cool as well.

THIS. Is SH on the PSN store? I need some more downloadable stuff for the PSP and the impending comic con road trip!

I used to play SH at winter, when it got dark early. Lots of running to and from friends houses because oh shit mutant dog or bird-thing is chasing me and oh shit is that a squeaky ink child ghost or a midget in the shadows fuckety fuck fuck.

I had no idea what I was doing playing through Vanguard Bandits. I made so many mistake and never went through the alternate playthroughs. Such a fun game though.

Well it only got removed from the UK store because they couldn't figure out a way to get rid of that sound glitch when you fire the pistol.

That's odd, because that happened when I played the original disc on my PS3. Must be something deep in the actual disc and not just the download.
But SH is fantastically eerie.

I wasn't really paying attention and was confused at first when I read Silent Hill Uno. Scariest game of Uno ever. Whoever loses gets their skin ripped off by Pyramid Head
I wonder what Houk decided to play

I made it up to the merry go round part in that one. Of course, I missed the important thing you needed for that situation.

This Vanguard Bandits sounds like an interesting game. And it's a RPG!? Why have I never heard of it.
It isn't bad is it?
Also, good show for putting Legend of Legaia on your list, Slash.
urban chaos. First true sandbox game. In 3d! Well 3rd person perspective. Pretty sure it was ps1, just er ignore the fucked up voodoo shit two thirds of the way through.

Really?
Everyone I talked to back when it came out said it was garbage on PS1 but pretty fun on PC

awesome that someone compiled a list. I always want to see stuff like that in these threads haha.
anyway, I haven't looked at ps1 games in a while, where's a good place to buy some older stuff? ebay still the best way to go?
I got some decent rare titles a few years back and have been thinking of grabbing a few more sometime soon, now of course my list has grown but hey, that's part of the fun. of course rare is less important than A Good Game.

The pc game was indeed quite fun.
Not the first proper 3D proper sandbox (that would be Midtown Madness), but there was a hybrid there.

I love that game.
It's been a long time since I played VB, but I remember it being pretty fun. Probably slow-paced by today's standards, it's a turn based strategy game. Translation is par for the course Working Designs stuff, so expect it to read well and have a lot of jokes and occasional dated pop culture references. There are multiple endings, I only ever got around to playing to one of them.
Here's part of a LP that demonstrates some gameplay, with some annoying guy talking over it.
A big 3D world you can just play around and roam freely in from the start.
Midtown Madness was the first to do it properly.
Urban Chaos had levels with random fragments of city, not a full city.
Posts
It was canceled for DC, came to PS2
Also cj, Inferno was going to follow the "best possible ending" of FE1 which is bullshit
Yeah they decided to release it afterall I too played it on the dreamcast. (Edit: damn iphone autocorrect)
Let me tell you about Demon's Souls....
It's easy, you play Bushido Blade 1. Bushido Blade 1 is perfect, it did not need a sequel.
I made a game, it has penguins in it. It's pay what you like on Gumroad.

seriously, it kicks so much ass. it kicks all of the ass
also i write about videogames ok?

There is not enough lime in the world for that statement.
All the Soul Reaver talk is reminding me I have yet to do my yearly Defiance playthrough.
Also, whoever mentioned Bushido Blade 2 is doing it wrong. Very, very wrong.
It's like a pick-a-path book.

Wow, the guide is more common than I thought it was.

Pope Gundam IX, specifically.
Excellent games. And surprisingly so. Maybe I'm just a sucker for thirdperson action games because I found Dead to rights pretty fun as well.
I made a game, it has penguins in it. It's pay what you like on Gumroad.
Currently Ebaying Nothing at all but I might do in the future.
Tales of Phantasia
Persona 2: Innocent Sin
They are Japanese imports, but there are fan translations of them.
I would not mind Valkyrie Profile, but it is expensive. I bought the much cheaper, PSP version.

I don't remember it being too punishing, but I was indeed getting advice from the guide as I played.
