Also: when is the next Campaign? Jacob's Rest is cool and all but I'm itching for more.
Fuck I will pay monies for it.
No idea. I don't even know if they're going to release another official campaign. Since they released the SDK and all that stuff they may be hoping that the community can start cranking out some stuff.
Man this game is so ace. I played with 2 friends tonight and I think we made it about half way through. We're pretty terrible at it, but mostly because it requires the least bit of coordination.
We had our best luck using what we dubbed the triangle formation. Which is basically exactly what it sounds like. All our backs together moving as one and covering whoever has to reload. It was pretty awesome, yet hilarious to watch.
Anyone notice how some things (mattresses and the copy machines in Highrise) are totally impenetrable? A steel wall, yeah that makes sense, but bullets should obliterate copy machines.
I don't know about you, but I always buy a bullet proof printer. Its a lot more expensive, but I think the advantages are apparent.

Am I correct in believing that jumping into a public game without any experience with this thing would be a bad idea?

A runthrough of the offline mission couldn't hurt, but it's certainly not too complex of a game for you to just figure it out in a pub game. The game features a pop up hint system like in L4D so you learn as you go. Just try to pick a server that's on the Landing Bay mission, as I believe that's the first one of the campaign.
You should definitely try the offline mission just to get used to the controls so you're not dropping your weapon or tossing grenades into your squad. It's not very long and it lets you control all four classes, so you can get a feel for them and not be surprised staring at the tech minigame or fumbling to drop a medkit.
The game's not very complex though so once you get the basics from the offline mission, you're good.
I mean I know it's kind of silly to complain about a character being OP in a coop game but holy fuck. He basically has, what, a shotgun with a 14 shot clip? That one shots any swarm except biggies, and three-shots the tripods?
First time I played him I racked up like triple the kills of the Spec Weapons guy.

And deploying three mines is just hax.
you do realize both officers get the vindicator shotgun right

jaeger is nice but conrad is better than a medic

Marty: The future, it's where you're going? Doc: That's right, twenty five years into the future. I've always dreamed on seeing the future, looking beyond my years, seeing the progress of mankind. I'll also be able to see who wins the next twenty-five world series.
Having a map with two teams of four going down different paths helping each other and joining up occasionally would be cool, but huge maps with eight dudes might be a bit messy.

Sarge is the best, Jaeger is for douchebags.
You shut your filthy whore mouth. Vindicator + melee damage bonus + leadership = credit to team.
Sarge is better if you're doing Insane or running real slow. For speed runs, Wildcat, Faith and Jaeger are the best three to have on your team (assuming their players are competent).

For whatever reason I didn't seem to be able to one-shot things with Sarge. Maybe my aim was constantly off or something.
Best bet, IMHO, is for the Heavy Weapons player to carry the ammo box. If you're using the Autogun you really don't need a secondary weapon anyway--you just need more ammo. And, of the three that you carry, there's almost always going to be at least one crate you don't use (if not two) so the rest of your team should be able to count on each grabbing 2-3 clips from you.

Shit just seemed to explode with Jaeger.
I made shit explode with the unlockable shotgun on a medic.

Why are you bringing up the unlockable shotty? We were talking about Sarge/Jaeger and the Vindicator. You realize they're completely different weapons, right? The Vindi is 105 base damage, the unlockable shotty is 175.
Sarge's vindi does 133 damage with his bonuses. Jaeger has 175 damage with the Vindi with bonuses. Jaeger basically has a shotgun with 14 rounds per clip. I'm not sure if that makes a huge difference - I just notice more stuff explodes more often when I'm playing Jaeger.

Making the point that bonus or not, aliens tend to explode when given a good shot no matter the weapon
I have to wonder about some people. Friend of a friend dropped in my game, and I figured we were experienced enough I could be allowed to carry a weapon instead of two healythings.
Getting about a third of the way through and hearing "That's it. No more meds," is very

Wolfe with an ammo box makes sense. Wildcat, on the other hand, gets the best damage bonus in the game iirc, and carrying a sentry with +4 dmg makes a lot of sense compared to making, say, Vegas carry it (0 bonus). It's not like you're gonna use any other weapon besides auto/minigun when you're a spec, besides maybe flamer or tesla (which don't really benefit that much from the dmg bonus). Tech or officer can carry the ammo.
Wildcat is overall the best character in the game for making drones die, imo. Jaeger can rape the big stuff and hold his own against drones, but he has to reload. And fuck you, taking two vindicators is just selfish

You can, and nothing bad will happen at all. There are plenty of people who will suck and be great for you to be near

you can also disable the player check, and add bots to actual campaign to get some xp if you wanted to as well.
Half-way there. (Sorta)
Works with bots, not with people.

I just recently got my first but the highest I've seen is 3. How far can you go?

We can all agree that making things burn is a good thing
