Vegas is really the best candidate for the tesla gun now

I think Tesla + freeze sentry + power fist would be a nice setup for him

I still think the best way to use vindi vs. drones is to let them come to you instead of running in front of everyone's line of fire to shoot an alien in the face. Autogun is much better for mowing them down, and the officer can hold the back by himself. Up against bigger stuff, the vindi outshines the autogun by far. Annoyingly, a lot of officers I play with try to kill everything and the autogun ends up just holding the rear, which is a terrible waste of a weapon that can kill drones better than anything else. On hard it's annoying, on insane it's intolerable.

Just started doing speed runs and even though it took us like 2 hours to beat the finish the first map we had a blast.

We were using the dual SMGs for breaking down doors since they have the highest DPS but previous posts have mentioned the chainsaw. Do they have some property that lets them break doors faster? Any more general speed running tips would be nice so we don't have to spend an entire evening to finish a single map.

I dont remember a number, but either 2 or 3 people with a chainsaw can take a door down faster than an average hack

Chainsaw does far more damage per second than the PDWs. The in-game stats don't reflect it, but testing on an "asw_ent_create asw_target_dummy" yields a damage per second statistic over 500.

FYI damage amps do not cause chainsaws to bring down doors faster. They might make PDWs more competitive tho. Nice thing about PDW, in theory, is that you can start bringing down the door before you're in physical contact with it.

Assuming you don't need it for other things, what about an Adrenaline hack? That would free up to two or three weapon slots since missions force you to take a tech, anyway.

you can also disable the player check, and add bots to actual campaign to get some xp if you wanted to as well.

I had an epic moment on Rydberg Reactor insane where all my teammates were dead and it was just me with a sliver of health at the last room. Halfway through the battle I ran out of ammo waiting for the door to open and spent the rest of the time kiting the aliens. Right before the door opens I roll between six aliens to the corner next to the door. Unfortunately, out of the door comes a wall of aliens blocking my exit and trapping me in the corner, killing me an inch away from freedom.

Funny enough, a similar situation happened to a group of friends i was playing with in my next insane game. They were down to 2 men at the last room. One of them ran out of ammo halfway through and the other one only had a tesla gun. The door opened up and the aliens killed one of them while the other did what I couldn't and slipped in.

To ignore the player limit, the console command is:
    asw_ignore_need_two_player_requirement 1

As for bots, this is a more convenient way (add this to your autoexec.cfg, create one in swarm/cfg if you haven't made one yet):
    alias add_sarge "cl_selectm 0 -1"
    alias add_wildcat "cl_selectm 1 -1"
    alias add_faith "cl_selectm 2 -1"
    alias add_crash "cl_selectm 3 -1"
    alias add_jaeger "cl_selectm 4 -1"
    alias add_wolfe "cl_selectm 5 -1"
    alias add_bastille "cl_selectm 6 -1"
    alias add_vegas "cl_selectm 7 -1"

    alias rm_sarge "cl_dselectm 0"
    alias rm_wildcat "cl_dselectm 1"
    alias rm_faith "cl_dselectm 2"
    alias rm_crash "cl_dselectm 3"
    alias rm_jaeger "cl_dselectm 4"
    alias rm_wolfe "cl_dselectm 5"
    alias rm_bastille "cl_dselectm 6"
    alias rm_vegas "cl_dselectm 7"

add_character will add, rm_character to kick them.

I should mention that the bots can be stupid. They have a tendency to lag behind your group, and will happily stand right in front of a shield bug and get killed. Medics aren't aggressive enough with healing with the medigun and won't drop a beacon unless you order them to, but that isn't as bad as their suicidal tendencies.

It honestly doesn't matter! You have access to decent weapons right off the bat for every class. Prototype Assault Rifle and Autogun for Tech and Sp. Weapons are still my guns of choice even after having used them all. The Officer gets the Vindicator shotgun which is probably the best reason to play Officer. And even the regular Assault Rifle is a damn fine gun.

At level 2 (which you'll almost certainly hit after the very first mission) you get access to the passive Body Armor, which I pretty much always carry.

So, levelling doesn't matter, really, as far as making you more useful to the group you're playing with. Just more toys to mess with.

Yeah, about the only class where this might not be the case is the medic, since they get the healing gun at level 7. But even then, the heal beacons are good enough, and you get to level 7 really fast anyway so it's largely moot.

The weapon unlocks are more about giving you options. For the Special Weapons guy, Autogun is a tracking weapon. But if you wanted, you could take the later unlock minigun (more than twice the rate of fire, more spread, no tracking), and instead sacrifice your special equipment slot to carry flares, which help by providing auto-tracking. Or just forget about that and make do whilst taking grenades or something instead.

Really it's just about how you want to roll your classes. The default equipment is good enough to gel with pretty much any team anyway, and otherwise you level up pretty fast.

Level 9 IIRC, and TBH I don't really like the medi gun. That said, the assault rifle or twin pistols on Faith feels really weak. It still gets the job done and a new player wouldn't notice, but if you're used to playing any character that gets a weapon damage bonus it really stands out.

Did my second promotion last night, starting all over again. I always, always miss the flamer.

I'm not entirely sure why, but activating it after you've been infested always seems to take too long. I tend to carry it on missions with parasites, but I've taken a liking to freeze grenades.

It won't immediately kill parasites that attack you when you activate it before infestation, will it? I still need to punch one of the bastards.
