Scott Pilgrim vs The World is fantastic. Cera nails the role, and Kulkin as Wallace easily almost steals the show. The visual effects and touches are really neat but not overdone, and we even get some O'Reilly art in the big screen.

I can't wait to see it again.

Atomic Robo is a really great, funny comic but it's a different style than Scott Pilgrim. Then again SP has such a unique style I'd be hard-pressed to name another American comic similair to it.

That's fine if the artstyle isn't the same. Although it's because of the artstyle that I'll never watch the movie. I just don't see how it would work on the same level, humor-wise. I'm guessing the movie just does the whole video game anime boss fight thing well? then again, Micheal Cera. And that's the last nail in the coffin for my interest.

I'll check out Atomic Robo. Is it lengthy?

Not really, so far 3 trade paper backs have come out, and a 4 issue miniseries just ended. The trades are a bit pricey but I think you get extra content with them.

    Mini Marvels. G-Man. They're better.

Watched Under the Red Hood today, it was a solid "good." Clean animation, good fight scenes, a bit clunky with the 3D effects, slightly disappointed it wasn't Mahnke's style though. It also tried to be too focused on a certain aspect of the Batverse it ignored other things that are integral to Bruce's overall feelings at that point in his life. Oracle and Tim should have been in it, for one.

The voice acting was fine, but it seemed more like they had to say lines they didn't want to say. NPH spent half of the time just saying the obvious throughout the movie.

The biggest trouble it had was it was so scattershot, where it would tone itself down in regards to violence yet then 20 minutes later it shows blood. The opening scene should have been the bloodiest but some random thug is more beat up than anything else. It also felt more like a movie planned for 20 minutes breaks to fit a TV schedule than other DTV films like Crisis on Two Earths.
Young Jason seemed to be more Young Dick (the parts where he's jumping around against the Riddler felt like it was more from Robin: Year One than being a young Jason).

And those cyber ninjas, kind of lame, and again blowing one of their heads off with a taser gets more blood than being beaten to death with a crowbar.

And where were Dick's Batons? Why is everyone forgetting the batons these days?

And making teen Jason have Tim's OYL Robin outfit seemed unnecessary

Basically, the parts that followed Winnick's story more closely were the best parts of the film.

But the best scene was "may I have some water?"

The costume thing for Jason as Robin didn't bother me. It's kind of necessary to help people who are only marginally familiar with the characters to get into it. He's not Dick, so to make it more obvious, they went with the different Robin, New Batman Adventures style. And adding Barbara and Tim would jsut clutter up the movie. These movies are never direct adaptations and should never be. Too many characters clogs up a movie that's not even two hours long. Having said that...

I... kind of think it sucked. Nightwing was great but the movie felt like a chore to sit through. It had some pretty neat action scenes but, I quit watching about 3/4 of the way through because I kept getting the notion 'This would be real neat if I was a kid, but there doesn't seem to be much actually happening.'

Still certainly better than Doomsday or Public Enemies. About on par with First Flight. Somewhere beneath New Frontier and far below Wonder Woman and Crisis.

Also, Dimaggio was a terrible choice. I respect the actor, and he had a good Joker laugh. But shit if his voice wasn't distracting. I couldn't think of it as "the Joker." It was very clearly "Dimaggio as the Joker"

I just watched it awhile ago and thought it was fantastic. I want to see more of this then the Nolan Batman.

I also didn't dig the Joker in it cause not only the voice but the dialog sounded very unnatural for him.

But at least with Ledger's Joker (even with all of the hype surrounding it) I really could buy that his Joker was a completely separate being from the actor playing him. Quality. Dimaggio didn't even have to be on screen and he was already overpowering the scene.

    the thing is

The Avengers could bomb spectacularly, or have horrible production woes, or the egos involved could turn into a powder keg

You could lay the roots for something in Batman 3 and Superman as well as Green Lantern

but, from a business standpoint, it's best to see if it works with The Avengers before sinking the time and money into it needed

Oh its going to bomb, lets not delude ourselves here, its a Whedon production. 65 minutes in, an usher will appear informing us that the rest of the film has been cancelled due to lack of interest and will be burnt off in the summer on tv.

So here are the outlines for the Marvel Anime series
    “Iron Man”

In an effort to make amends for his weapons manufacturing past, Tony Stark has dedicated himself to building the world up rather than tearing it down. Traveling to Japan to build a new arc reactor that will deliver unlimited free energy to the Japanese people, Stark is challenged by the Japanese government and the media when he attempts to import the necessary nuclear priming device. And when the reactor-in-construction is repeatedly attacked by the mysterious Zodiac consortium, Stark must gather his allies to take on Zodiac and its mastermind.

    “X-MEN”

The X-MEN are reunited following the death of a teammate, and are summoned by Charles Xavier to Japan following the abduction of Hisako Ichiki (Armor). There, they confront the U-MEN, a lunatic cult that steals and transplants mutant organs to further strengthen their own army, and the battle for justice is on.

    “Wolverine”

Based on the popular graphic novel by Frank Miller, the series begins in Japan , where Logan is challenged by Shingen Yashida, the notorious leader of a powerful mafia clan. When Shingen’s employee Yukio, a female assassin, falls out of Shingen’s favor, she must kill him or be killed. Teaming up with Logan , the pair seek out the villain to exact their revenge.

    “Blade”

Eric Brooks — known as Blade — seeks revenge on Deacon Frost, the vampire lord who killed his mother while she was still pregnant with Eric. With all the powers of a vampire and none of their weaknesses, Blade’s quest leads him throughout Southeast Asia in search of Frost, and, in Viet Nam , he discovers a vampire plot that threatens to take down the whole world.

Got to admit, X-Men's surprises me the most.

I'm surprised he hasn't said that on any of your earlier opinions of the Avengers movie. We know it isn't TDK but to be honest, TDK doesn't belong in the same category. It is a great story but it feels removed from anything 'super'. I like that when I watch a Marvel movie I feel like I'm watching a comic.

What I mean by watching a comic, is that I don't expect a tone of realism and I accept a lot more from the film because it should be able to operate as a comic does. Not that I literally want to watch a comic.

I think it works well for Batman but I still think theres room to grow where Superman could come into it for instance, hes an alien, nothing wrong with an alien appearing in reality based stuff. The Xenomorph and Predator maybe but not Superman.

And when you forsake realism you get people flying around the world fast to turn back time or using laser vision to heat an entire planet.
