Tales from the Bargain Bin

So I found these old PC games that are on sale for dirt cheap:
Thief 2 - The Metal Age
Tomb Raider Chronicles
No One Lives Forever 2
Total Annihilation Kingdoms
Nox
I haven't these played before, but I've heard mention here. I can't exactly remember if they were said to be awesome, or awful (I'm leaning on the former on Thief)
Which ones should I check out? I don't mind the dated graphics really, so it ain't a factor.
personally i liked nox a lot, especially because it has a level of replayability - each class has a different storyline, though they do converge at some point. i only beat it as one class, but i ended up playing it as all three for a good long time.
but i don't know if my opinion is shared in how much i liked nox

All right, gonna get back to it then. It's a good thing I haven't tried watching any Thief playthroughs so I won't get spoiled.
Which Thief game had the mental hospital scenario?
Thief 3 had the asylum. It's actually a bit different in gameplay from the first two but if you end up liking 2 you should seriously consider getting it and part 1.
NOLF 1 and 2 were pretty good but I get the feeling that playing them now without nostalgia / context, they'd probably show their age. We've come an awful long way in FPS's.
Is this just a general thread for awesome bargain bin stories?
Because my best one was around 2000 or so, my local Best Buy was selling old PC games in 2-packs for 10 bucks each. I had never played a Thief game, and saw they had Thief 2 bundled with some crappy RPG. So I picked that sucker up and took it home. Unfortunately, the Thief disc was defective or something, because it simply would not install. The other game worked though, and was amusing because in it the main character made this high-pitched "Yaw!" sound whenever he jumped. But I wanted Thief, so I went to return both games, hoping I could get it exchanged for a working copy of Thief 2. I explained the situation to the lady at the return counter, who said yeah I could exchange it for the same title. Unfortunately again, They were all out of Thief 2+Crappy RPG packs. However, I did see Thief 1 bundled with a different game. I took that pack up and asked if I could exchange for this. After looking it over, the returns lady agreed. So I brought the Thief 1 pack home, which did work.
What was the second game in the pack, you ask? Oh, it was another RPG, a little title you may not have heard of.
I got NHL 2002 for $2. I thought that was a pretty good deal.

I've had 2 good bargain bin runs in the last week and a half ->
Divinity 2 : Ego Draconis -> $9 US
MOH: Pacific Assault-> $9US
Mirrors Edge -> $2US
Tomb Raider : UnderWorld -> $8US
Dirt 2 PC-> $8 US
LBP PSP $14US
Empire Total War : $15US
The Club -> $2
Sonic SuperStar Racing DS -> $13 US
Riddick: DA -> $14 US
I have Thief 2 but still haven't played it past the first level. You might need to consult a guide to install it or to get the movies to play properly. That was the case with Thief 1 for me, and that was on a Windows XP PC.
That being said, the Thief games have an incredible atmosphere and setting to them, and they can be very challenging.
I STILL haven't played Deus Ex, and I see it from time to time. When I do see it, and then return there later, it's usually gone.
It's only happened 2 or 3 times, but yeah, always gone when I come back.
I never made an effort to really get it. I tried it once, and the graphics are fairly dated. I guess by the way people talk about it STILL, it must be worth it.

It's on Steam for bargain bin prices.
Also I would still buy it a retail price now, mainly because it's still better than anything at retail.

Suikoden 2 for $15. Three years ago.
The best gem I found at a budget price was Castle Shikigami 2: $9.99. It's now my favorite shmup.
Also, offhand:
Thief 2(free, pennied out)
Dreamfall (9.99)
The Red Star (14.99, launch price)
Ring of Red (4.99)
Homeworld and Homeworld 2 bundled together for 49 cents at Liquidation World. I almost pissed and shit myself with joy.They were also in the big boxes, sealed, so the original copies from release.
Sealed copy of Final Fantasy VII (Black Label) for $14 in a Superstore Canada bargain bin 2 years ago.
Not a rare gem find, but I did pick up Final Fantasy 13 for the 360 about two weeks after it came out at a garage sale for $10 sealed.
Lady said her kid was too young to play it and by the time he was old enough to play there will be better and newer things out. I didn't argue. Still yet to open it though.

When you're done with Thief 2, fans made an excellent mod for the game called Shadows of the Metal Age. As far as mods go, they pulled out all the stops, taking about 5 or 6 hours to beat.
I just now saw that Walmart has a deal where you can get an old SKU Wii and any "bestselling game" for $179.00. I totally hopped on that one.
With Mario Galaxy at $50, that pretty means you get a Wii for $130, a real steal if you don't care about Wii Sports Resort or Wii Motion Plus games. (I'm sure there'll be some package or sale before Skyward Sword comes out.)
Deadly Premonition brand new for 20 bucks was a steal. Burnout Paradise for $15 was also a fantastic deal for how much time I spent playing it.
As for true bargain bin games, I keep seeing copies of Condemned 2 floating around in them for 5-10 bucks. I enjoyed the first and am always tempted to buy it, but never actually do for some reason.
Deus Ex for £2. About 4 years ago I think, probably more. I also picked up both Tenchu games on PSone AND Tenchu Darkwhatever on the oXbox for a fiver. £5. Guy at the counter thought he was doing me a deal saying I could take the PSone games for free with the oXbox one. Little did he know I was actually buying the PSone games getting the oXbox one free.

no dude, nox is fucking awesome. 13 year old me had a blast with that game.

Can't find the discs now though. Sigh.
the coolest thing was it came with two discs, that were the same i think. give one to a friend, or have a backup disc!
The best I got out of a bargain bin (rather, a clearance shelf) in recent memory was Just Cause. While I enjoyed it, it wasn't no Planescape. Hate you guys.

Actually the second disc was a multiplayer spawn co-op disc. It only installed the multiplayer portion of the game so that someone else could play with you.
Okay, not really a bargain bin deal, but I once gave my friend 20 bucks for Prince of Persia SoT when it was brand new, and he threw in the JSRF/Some Racing Game combo.
Still don't feel like I've ever found a better deal than that.

Got Thief 2 and NOLF2, thanks guys. :-D
I also saw Freespace in there bin. Should I have gotten that too?

Pretty sure. I know I can only find Disc 1 -- when I can find the game at all -- and that's all I need to install and play.

I would guess Total Annihilation and NOLF are both good as well, from what I heard through forumers.
I've never actually played any of those games come to think of it.

But get Thief 2 and NOLF2 ASAP. They are fantastic.

As for my awesome bargain-bin tale? Quite a few, but the one that stands out is The Misadventures of Tron Bonne, new, for $15.
Steam: CavilatRest
Divinity 2 : Ego Draconis -> $9 US
MOH: Pacific Assault-> $9US
Mirrors Edge -> $2US
Tomb Raider : UnderWorld -> $8US
Dirt 2 PC-> $8 US
LBP PSP $14US
Empire Total War : $15US
The Club -> $2
Sonic SuperStar Racing DS -> $13 US
Riddick: DA -> $14 US
All hard copies
Tumblr
Sly 3 (PS2) for less than 5
Blue Dragon (Xbox 360) for less than 5
LocoRoco 2 (PSP) new for 5
Those are the ones I can remember, but many of my PS2 and PSP games were cheap or bought in those buy 2 get 3rd free deals.
That being said, the Thief games have an incredible atmosphere and setting to them, and they can be very challenging.
