DS Games for My Girlfriend:

I'm looking for any recommendations for games for my girlfriend. She has a Pink DS Lite that I purchased for her birthday last year, and lately she's been bugging me about needing something new to play. She more or les explained to me that she likes the games that are time consuming, that cater to her short attention span. Specifically she already has Animal Crossing, Cooking Mama, Tamagotchi Connection: Corner Shop, and she currently has my copies of Touch Detective and Yoshi's Island DS on loan.

So, looking for any recommendations for someone that's not a huge gamer but like's to be kept occupied.

I'd recommend Magical Starsign and Contact. They have tons of things to do and should keep her busy for a while.

Both Phoenix Wrights are fantastic for this.

So she, what, wants a game that wastes time but also has variety to keep her short-attention span occupied? Pick her up all three WarioWare games, two for GBA and one DS.

It just depends on what exactly she wants and prefers. There are a bunch of different mini-game-centric things if that's what you're asking for. Clubhouse Games is good. Or does she want something with more meat? Both Castlevanias are excellent. Mario 64 DS has both the full game and a ton of mini-games. Feel the Magic and Rub Rabbits are fun and cheap.

My mum swears by polarium and konductra, bith are pretty simple, and (on puzzle mode in polarium any way) don't require quick reactions. Polarium should be very cheap by now,

    Elite Beat Agents
    Mario Kart DS
    Advance Wars DS

These are the three best DS games, in my opinion

Phoenix Wright - most definitely. Most excellently.

Rocket Slime. Oh gosh, it's soooo cute. And I managed to put a good 20 hours into it.

I probably put even more hours into Super Princess Peach, too.

Rocket Slime was kinda-sorta fun but kinda-sorta mindless; it was too easy. I 100%'d it in around ten hours in maybe two or three days and haven't touched it since then

I can vouch for this. I showed my wife when I got Tetris DS, and it was like watching her transform from mild-mannered Mrs. Lunker into Lunkatron, Ruiner of Worlds.

I'll also back Whippy's endorsements of the Wario Ware games; Twisted controls a little clunky in the DS, but if you've never played it in anything else it will feel just fine.

Both my mom and sister didn't like Meteos at all. Both love Tetris. They "didn't get" meteos. I'd have trouble recommending it despite it being an otherwise cool game.

My wife and I love Tetris for two completely different reasons. She loves the Standard and Standard Challenge modes, which let her play against herself and gravity, whereas I love the Standard Versus and Push modes because of the competition and the attack/defense strategies.

Meteos is easily the deeper puzzle game, but Tetris is such a streamlined concept that they often appeal to different types of gamers.

First suggestion: Take Yoshi away from her before she breaks it/her DS/you in frustration. Not for the casual gamer!

The only thing I feel hasn't been mentioned in this thread (probably because we are all manly men) is Nintendogs.

Cute and caters to that time consuming but simple thing she said she likes in an Animal Crossing kind of way.

    Give it a try.

EBA is such a great game. Follow up with some serious new Super Mario Brothers (especially mini-games) action. You will have success.

Iagree with everything so far (except maybe Contact and Magical Starsign :P), but I'll put in another vote for Rocket Slime. It's easy, super fun, and different - everyone should own this game. I'd also say the first Mario and Luigi game, and maybe Feel the Magic if you can find it really cheap, which you should be able to. I liked Feel the Magic a lot more than Warioware Touched, and while it may not have great lasting value, it's still a great experience.

But yeah, I can see that. That's one of the reasons I like Meteos more than tetris is because of the greater complexity. I can see it turning people off.

I'll throw up a nomination for Meteos as well, but I have to say that my girlfriend can't get enough of her copy. We lost it under the couch for a month and she was really sad. Incidentally, we got her a copy of the game because she wouldn't stop playing mine. For reference, she's beaten Zelda:WW twice (more than I have), is currently obsessed with Okami, loves the Katamari games, and plays a lot of Animal Crossing for the DS. Note that none of these games require a whole lot of dexterity but are all overflowing with charm.

I'm not so sure I'd recommend Phoenix Wright to somebody with a short attention span. If you're not paying close attention to what's going on, you're going to have a problem beating those games.

Big brain academy and brain age. Its definitly for those people who need something useful out of their gaming time. And I (roughly)quote tycho when speaking about his wife " She doesn't think aliens are going to land so she doesn't need to learn how to kill them" (very 1st podcast with planet gamecube)
