Now a fight has broken out and the producers from Tekken have walked in the door. Madness. They are handing out copies of Tekken to fans at a Street Fighter panel.
theyre really doing the two versions thing, too. crazy. i just dont see the tekken cast making a smooth transition into 2d SF4 style fighting, but i guess we'll see.

Like I was telling my friend earlier, I can see them putting Street Fighter characters into Tekken pretty easily in general, but without some major, major changes I don't see how any Tekken characters make sense in a 2D game, especially one like Street Fighter with tons of zoning tools.

Tekken has plenty of zoning. Every 3d fighter does.
But not to the extent that Street Fighter does. Unless I'm forgetting the projectiles in Tekken?
All I'm saying is that you're going to have to have either some kind of system change, like giving air dashes or rolls and such, or you're going to have to have to make an absurd amount of changes to the Tekken fighters.
And even if you make them work at a balance level, it's going to be difficult to make them distinctive in their fighting style in the same way that Street Fighter characters are----in a Tekken game a lot of them may feel distinct from one another, but in an SF game a lot of them are going to feel somewhat simlar unless you drastically change them.
Naw, Tekken still has oodles of zoning. Half the skill involved in high level play is zoning.
But it is done through movement, not projectiles. It's be simple enough to transfer over, since a bunch of Tekken characters have a pseudo-crouch dash, slides, hop kicks, and flashy attacks. Crouch dash goes through fireballs, hop kicks go through lows and fireballs, slides go under fireballs, attacks with lightning negate fireballs. Easy.
I'm honestly pretty hyped right now. So many fighting games in the horizon.

that tiny little video looked pretty rowdy, but we'll see how it actually pans out. looking forward to getting nasty on some fools with 2d king, definitely. i have hope.

Nah, after Chun-li finished her ultra she tossed Kaz in Ryu's direction who then hit Kaz with a Metsu Hadouken.
Later on, Nina did and ultra on Ryu and then put him in a stranglehold while Kaz hit Ryu with his spinning uppercut move.
