Isn't it just supposed to be how the politicians and nobles are all liars who deceive the masses, and because of their corruption you can do anything to dispose of them?
because otherwise it really is quite silly
I took it as meaning "Use your own judgement to see what is right" rather than laying down hard and fast rules about who is the bad guy and such.

I always thought it was just a statement about the difference between perception and reality. "Nothing is real" because we aren't actually shown what is really there, we see what we're taught to see or want to see or expect to see or whatever. The true reality lies behind layers of perception that have to be peeled away.
"Everything is permitted" always just struck me as a statement of purpose; do what you have to do to get the job done (in this case assassinate templars/ preserve the pieces).
I was playing AC2 on the PC. The game seems to have reverted to an earlier save. I know it isn't my fault as I had been playing for several hours since that point and exited the game properly. Does anybody know of what might have caused this problem and how to fix it?

Sounds like something fucked up on Ubis save cloud.
TV remote controls should provide a CC like option which provides a "literal" description like so.
Yes they should.

I liked that, Tobuscus's Reach trailer is pretty awesome too. He also raises a good point: Why didn't Cesare get shot like the other henchmen even though he was not even protected?
Hello everyone, firstly, for those of you who own a Playstation 3, and actually has genuine interest in the Assassin's Creed series - I've managed to obtain a beta key for Assassin's Creed:Brotherhood! Just send me a private message if you want it : )
Secondly, I'm currently in the process of recording and uploading Assassin's Creed II's cutscenes onto YouTube - so feel free to view the videos if you're interested.

I too have acquired a beta code, although I plan to use it myself and would have already if Ubisofts account management wasn't so annoyingly fucked.
"Oh, you can't change your country of residence, you have to go to our support site."
Oh. Alright. *click click click*
"Who's the what now? I dunno. You can edit your account, I guess."
Awesome!
"Oh, you can't change your country of residence, you have to go to our support site."
... wa--... wasn't I just there? Didn't I... I just... it just to--you just told me I could edit my account!
"What? I dunno. Wanna search our Q&A database?"
Fine. Under "Ubisoft account", search for "country".
"Nope, nothing. Oh, I took out the word 'country', 'cause it's too common a word. Weird that I couldn't find anything after that, huh?"
... fine, "residence". As in "How the fuck do I change my country of residence?".
"Oh, yeah, yeah, sure... nope, nothing there either."
Fuck it, as apparently the first person ever, I will ask Ubisoft support how to change my country of residence. Within one business day, you say? Fuck you.
Beta doesn't start until October, but my god that was aggravating.
Ok that literal trailer was pretty amazing. Probably one of their best.
His, actually. Toby does a bunch of layer editing, but all the many parts are sung by him.
On the AC front, any speculation on how they will deal with the death of Alexander (Rodrigo)? Historically, he died of fever... or poison, and Cesare died of fever. I don't think a five inch stab wound could really constitute fever though...

I'm kind of glad that their focusing more on the Borgia family as the enemies, and are not saying "The Church is the enemy, it is what makes Rome bad" I think going in that direction would pretty much say "Hey, were insulting something big, please come sue us". Also, did they ever say in their Dev journals or any news that their actually focusing on anyone being the antagonist besides Cesare Borgia? I don't really recall hearing anything about the church as the oppressors, mostly, again, the Borgia family.
Another thing is, doesn't Martin Luther come into this some time around the 1500's? I wonder if they will show him in a cameo in Rome, maybe someone you get a quest from, and shows the beginning of his protestant reformation.

Unfortunately, Martin Luther became know a little after Rodrigo Borgia's time, around 1517 or 1518, I think.
Ironically, the pope Martin Luther was pissed at, Pope Leo X, was actually Giovanni Medici, who was the son of Lorenzo Medici, the guy Ezio keeps from getting killed during the Pazzi Conspiracy. And Pope Leo's right hand man was his cousin, Giulio Medici, who was the illegitimate son of Giuliano Medici. Giuliano was Lorenzo's brother, who got murdered in-game (and in real life) during the Pazzi Conspiracy; he's the guy who gets brutally stabbed about 20 times during that cut scene.
After that all went down, in real life, Lorenzo adopted his nephew and raised him with future Pope Leo. And because the Medicis were masters of nepotism, after Pope Leo died, his cousin, Giulio, was elected the next pope, as Pope Clement VII.
By the way, anyone with Netflix can stream the four part Medici document through XBL (and I'm sure through the PS3, though I don't have one...yet), if you're interested. It's actually pretty interesting, and made up of most historical reenactments that are surprisingly not cheesy. They follow Lorenzo Medici's grandfather, Giovanni Medici, down to Grand Duke Cosimo Medeci, who ruled Florence about 40 years after Lorenzo's death.

Something that doesn't make sense to me is: if Rodrigo Borgia is the pope, how the flying shit does he have a son? I don't think having kids is standard for priests, bishops, or anything with a position higher than a deacon, who can marry. Did he have wife and kids before he became a religous person? Is Cesare his nephew?

The church was extremely corrupt, so various popes, including Borgia, had illegitimate kids running all over the place. And most of the time, the popes actually openly acknowledged these kids, giving them the same rich upbringing, education and prospects as legitimate children would have.
In Renaisssance Italy, being the bastard child of a noble/high-end member of the church (who were always nobles anyway, as you bought your way into the church) wasn't a big deal, as it was all about family names and bloodlines, versus legitimacy. In fact, if a noble did not acknowledge his illegitimate kids and/or didn't give money towards raising him, it was frowned upon for not taking responsibility. For example, Caterna Sforza, though obviously illegitimate, was still married off to a Duke (who was always rumored to be son of Pope Sixtus, the same pope who signed off on the Pazzi Conspiracy).
Rodrigo Borgia had four illegitimate kids, by same woman, including Cesare and Lucrezia, the most infamous two children. Cesare and Lucrezia's mother was also allegedly the mistress of the pope who was elected after Rodrigo, Pope Julius II. After Rodrigo retired that old mistress, he moved on to another one. However, he still openly financially supported the old mistress and his kids.
To be fair, pretty much every level of society in that age had some kind of graft going on. It was the friggin middle ages, what do you expect? Like the Venetians were almost a bigger pain in the ass to Christendom than Turkish military expansion with the amount of cowardess, betrayals and double dealing they did. The Catholic Church does deserve a lot of credit though, especially in the early days, for doing an awful lot of the governing, diplomatic liaisoning, and giving a spiritual center in a time where life was shit, and you were probably going to die screaming one way or another.
The bad Popes are more famous, but the good ones tend to get overlooked.
But yeah, without guys like Borgia you wouldn't have had a Protestant reformation.

Interesting thoughts on this. I have actually heard other Catholics (Besides me) that church and government should stay apart, however things like the spanish inquisition, which gained a lot of its infamy for its torturous ways, was made for good intentions by the church but was corrupted by government. It was made first for rooting out heresies (Like a teaching that God hated his creations) but I'm pretty sure the government made it to the point that they were torturing non christians.
Anyway why is ubi montreal (whatever studio) so biased on the 360? It seems like they favor ps3 so much that the fact that the beta is ps3 only seems like a big middle finger to 360 players.
Another thing that is interesting is that the Harlequin Pre order bonus from Gamestop is the only Assassin of the multi characters. That doesn't make much sense to me. Is he logged in and connected to the animus with the other templars? Also, is the animus just a theatre to watch your ancestors or is the gameplay of AC actually what is happening to the user?

Oh, sorry. I thought that because I read some other posts of yours on other threads and misinterpreted what you were saying I guess. I'm a bit thick in the head sometimes, or perhaps most of the time. :P
They seem to work like courtesans and the thieves and warriors or whatever.
You call on them, and then they do their awesome batman shit.
The cooler shit however seems to require them leveling up (better armor, better moves, stronger attacks), which you do by sending them on missions.

I wonder if they will actually have personalities or just be there to control. Also, I wonder if they will able try to rebel against the Assassin Order. Maybe if you treat them badly some how.

I believe there was at least one Pope who was the Illegitimate son of one of his predecessors.

Hopefully some of this makes it into AC3 as well
