This really started to bother me after a while.

I went through a lot of the second game doing everything I could to avoid killing anyone but the target.

oh my god i need a break from awesome games.

Seriously Halo Reach has now been pushed back even FARTHER because I dont want to delve into it until I know I will have a fair amount of free time to devote to it.

October will be Dead Rising 2 month (or couple weeks, depending on replay value).
End October/November will be Rock Band 3, for a decent amount of time.
End Novermber will be Fable 3.
Which puts Assassins Creed in December now.

and none of this factors in the fact I still love Red Dead and will be loving the packs they release.

Its too much. Assassins Creed may overtake Fable in November.

    So far it isn't awesome.

Two sessions joined, two sessions ended by everything freezing within the first two minutes and me having to reset my PS3.

In retrospect, it probably wasn't a good sign that there was already a 100mb+ update out for the beta hours after its release.

    Oh but when it works...

Just had my first real game. Ended up joint first when 10 seconds from the end of the round, my target jumped down from the roof in front of me and ran past me. Or rather, ran into my boot before I snapped his neck.

It feels... there's some adjusting. You will die a lot because some guy walked past you and suddenly a death animation kicks in. At one point I blended in with a crowd of people and the guy who had my contract just casually walked up and stuck a knife in my throat. Cue death screen and helpful hint to only blend when the pursuer hasn't seen you. But there's no way I can tell to know if he's seen you or not, so blending doesn't seem particularly useful unless you've just gotten away.

The contract thing works well. The AC thing works well. Ridiculous trains of people chasing people chasing people also works well. The game could be a bit more up front about telling you how it works. I chased a guy down and sticked him, seconds later I got stuck and the death screen said that the guy with my contract had followed me because of the Lock On feature. I don't know how that works in context of AC:B multi. In general the tutorial is somewhat lacking. It's basically killing a bot three times and then you're thrown onto the internet.

Oh, but to go top of the leaderboards with seconds to go because your target runs right into you? That feels... Assassin's Creed good.

Must examine more. I'm DavidThrax on PSN, so if I shank you... hi!

There's a kind of solo training session you can play to understand the basics of the gameplay.

You get a target. You know what he looks like and in which direction he is via a glowing pie on your radar. the piece of pie gets wider as you get closer to your target. That glowing pie become a full circle when you reach a certain range. This is why blending in crowds can be useful. Sure if for example you're the only doctor in a bunch of othe NPC skins they can pretty easily figure out you're their target. But if there's other Doctors nearby and didn't already single you out trying to kill you becomes a risk, since killing a civilian instead of you will cancel their contract.

There's also skills that work wth crowds: Disguise wich will temporarily change your appearance to another NPC skin and Morph which will transform a few nearby NPCs into your appearance.

It's also important to remember that killing is not the only way to get points: Successfully escaping your killer will also give you points. Sometimes when you think you spotted your killer it can be a good strategy to bait him into triggering a chase sequence When you think you've got a quick escape route.

Blending in crowd is useful in cetain situations. As you mentionned it used when escaping your opponents when you need to hide.

    Game is ace fun.

When you play like it isn't cod you win matches and have fun. You don't need to go hunting after targets, you can earn great points by fooling people into attacking civilians or trick people into revealing themselves then knocking them out with the circle button.

With 8 people who all want to be sneaky rather than play death match will be glorious! Shame grouping was causing me and adda to take turns freezing.

Yeah grouping didn't work and I wanted to go all zen master on Louie after teaching him the ways of the ninja.

Still not convinced by (or fully understanding) the lock on feature but if I can win games by being the sneakiest mother fucker on the planet and despite the fact that I have more deaths than anyone then I'm having fun.

You get bonuses for kill streaks and likewise assisted perks for loss streaks.

There is a blue counter above your target picture that indicates how many people are hunting the same target as you and there is a red indicator that shows how many people are hunting you. As you get bigger streaks or more score you will be more likely to get multiple contracts on you. Luring a 3 man contract into killing civilians near you or revealing themselves so that you can stun them (circle if you know the chase is on) is absolutely epic and pulling off your own contract under those conditions is sweet.

Oh so often I can see my pursuer yet am unable to do anything about it, so I cant wait for level 8 and the smoke bomb.

I still have no idea when to use stun. I tried a few times but I always get killed. Obviously the killer gets priority if he attacks you at the same time. Being in range of your pursuer while not being in the process of getting stabbed seems difficult.

I also wish the killing animations were a bit shorter. If a pursuer sees you kill your target your death is pretty much guaranteed.

You can't do the trick where you run straight up to them then let go of high profile and x and do the "incognito" shank in multiplayer? Is the moveset the same?

If it is, then that's the fastest killing animation.

Running straight up to your target will trigger a chase unless your running distance is short. All the free-running and climbing play the same as the single player games but there's no actual combat. It,s mostly shank and get shanked, with special abilities to help the shanking/prevention of shanking.

You can weigh it up, I've gotten away with kills by blending, disguising or just plain old sprinting out and finding a bush to hide in.

The stun is tricky as the chase has to be on but you need to catch them from behind or the side, kill always has more range so you can't normally pull it off front on. Also with any stun there is the chance that they will roll you over their shoulder and stab you in the face (I kid you not!)

I can't be the only one who has the whole thing freezing on him every second or third game, can I? I even, inspired by recent Dead Rising 2 trouble, went through and forwarded ports to get Nat 2 instead of 3, just to make sure that wasn't causing it.

With the added RPG mechanics of leveling up your underlings and equipping them I kind of wish that someone would blend an actual RPG with the same kind of engine and gameplay as AC 2. Very few RPG's manage to convey the stealth and agility of rogueish characters since they tend to be more focused towards armored warriors or mages.

As for being on topic: Has the developers commented on whether there will be other cities to visit than just Rome?

EDIT: Hah, it's good to see that the developers decided to give the Leonardo Da Vinci tank a spin in this game.
