I hope that, in Spain, you get to disguise yourself in red robes to sneak up on people.
Also, in the Tank gameplay video, it shows Ezio using the crossbow, using the same aiming mechanic as the hidden pistol from ac2. I thought that they said in one of the early interviews that they were using a free-aim mechanic.
So the beta for brotherhood is up on PSN, I'm contemplating dropping 18 bucks for a Playstation Plus so I can play it. I've noticed they have a couple decent deals on games and it looks like the free games they offer aren't limited time offers.
I love these quick looks, better than reviews in my opinion. Of course it's a beta so I'm not judging it persay, just wondering if it's worth the playstation plus purchase.
A little disappointing that combat just revolves around one button but from the gameplay this hardly becomes an issue.
I can imagine a mode where one player is tagged as the target and all others must chase them down. When that player is killed then their killer becomes the target. That player would obviously be moved to a location so they aren't instantly assassinated. Scoring could be based on time alive or something.
Also rooftop races. I don't see them doing much else outside of the one hit assassinations. I could be proven wrong but I think the one to one combat system just wouldn't translate well to MP.
So ya... multiplayer is fun and all... but I can see it getting old fast. From the videos I thought it would require more strategy than dumb luck. But dumb luck plays a BIG part. Do we know if they'll have more modes than just wanted and team wanted? I do kind of wish there was just a simple deathmatch mode where you could duke it out in normal combat.

Yeah, it looks like a fun distraction, but I don't see myself playing the multiplayer for long. I'm more optimistic about the singleplayer content. They've got all the mechanics down so I'm hoping they'll come up with some really inventive missions this time around.
Just watched the GiantBomb quicklook at the multiplayer Wanted mode, now I find myself wanting to watch someone like a top TF2 spy player work a sort of Jason Bourne / The Jackal deal and totally school everyone on the art assassinating while avoiding being assassinated.
Speaking of Jason Bourne, what is all this business about Assassin's Creed wouldn't be much fun in a more modern times setting? I would argue that the modern times settings, even a few futuristic ones, assassination games are what Assassin's Creed is somewhat inspired by - Syndicate, Grand Theft Auto, Deus Ex, Splinter Cell, and Hitman immediately spring to mind. Do they have the same free running and social stealth mechanics in free roaming city levels? Of course not, but rest assured I would hope that any future assassin themed game would try to be influenced heavily by Assassin's Creed.
Besides, need inspiration for what Assassin's Creed might look like in a modern setting? Have you seen the movie The Hunted? There are some scenes in there of some nice social stealth camouflage and getting busy with a silent blade versus many people with firearms, not that it helps them any.
So, anyone find any more good Brotherhood Wanted multiplayer vids that have you going "Now that is a frackin kick ass assassin!" I came close when I found this: http://www.ustream.tv/recorded/9891508

This is shaping up to be the first PS3 game I buy in a while. No new games have really struck me lately.
Oh look, there's a nice, solid scaffold that leads me to the perfect position to kill Borgia in suitably dramatic fashion / Oh wow, I didn't stab him right away like every one else in the entire game, I gave him a sporting chance and hence get twatted with his magical death stick / I know, i'll get out the Apple just as Borgia goes invisible so that he can take it from me like candy from a baby / Wow, thanks for only gently stabbing me Mr Borgia, despite having the power to rip me (your hated nemesis) asunder with you super godly power rod. Now I can get up and come after you! / Grrr, we are MEN. Fight like MEN. DURRRRRRR. / Oh golly, you know, after killing literally hundreds of your minions in the most brutal fashion, without hesitation, just to get one chance to tickle your carotid with this here wrist blade, i've decided i've had enough, no more killing! Blood does make me rather quesy you know. / OoooOoooo glowy lights! I've never seen anything even remotely like this in my life but I think i'll just wander through that blackened doorway. The most ordinary thing in the world! / Ah of course! It was ancient space gods all along! What a fool i've been! Utterly incomprehensible you say? No need to explain anything then! What's that? An imminent threat to humanity? The perfect set up for an epic sequel! / Back to the real world; what excellent timing! The templars have arrived just following the critical revelation and subplot conclusion. Time to go! / Oh no, the evil scientist! I will run past your goons and kill you first...or not. It seems you have erected an impenetrable force field in the rear of this truck, you dastardly fiend! Off you drive into the sunset! Next time..next..time... / What's that you say Lucy? More info to find out? Sequel Ahoy!
I have no problem with suspending my disbelief, but this is going too far.
Then, to add insult to injury, I have to wait four months longer than the consolites to play Brotherhood and get some plot resolution.
Time to go back to Baldur's Gate methinks.

I wouldn't count on plat resolution. This series isn't good at it.
AC2's final sections are very forced, they obviously ran out of time
but I thought it was made up by the sheer hilarious absurdity of the plot revelations afterward, and that perfectly timed "What. The. Fuck."
I'm not sure about them running out of time - for me the rest of the game had miles too much content, even playing only the story missions (I didn't bother with the feathers and chests). Seems more like they should refocus their efforts. The ending makes or breaks a story driven game as far as i'm concerned.
That quote pretty much echoed my feelings at that point, but if that was the writers trying to appear knowing re. the absurdity of the story then they're just admitting defeat - "Yeah it's shit and we know it. We contracted LOSTitis and introduced too much weird stuff to maintain the relatively serious tone of the rest of the story".

It's all bout the stabbing.
Maybe that's my problem - I loved and played the crap out of AC1, so got bored of the general gameplay, and was mainly playing 2 for the plot. I almost wish I skipped 1 now.

it's pretty obvious they ran out of time when 2 entire chapters were pulled. We wouldn't have seen them at all if Ubisoft didn't get money hungry and decide to finish them and sell them as DLC. It's likely the ending was one of those things that was hurt by the deadline. However, the ending isn't something they can pull and sell later, so they rushed it.
Oh, OK. I just figured that was the usual cut stuff to use as DLC later thing. If I hadn't had to wait so damn long to play it on PC maybe i'd have remembered things like that.

I take this back... the more I play the deeper and more addictive it gets. And an intense chase scene is just pure awesome.

I think it became clear the plot goes well beyond, "hey, this is stuff that could have possibly happened" to "this is badshit insane" when it turns out EVERYONE has a piece of Eden.
I've mentioned it before, but yeah, it's true.
I like the idea of multiple pieces of Eden, even the idea of precursors, but the idea that nothing important in history was ever done without them is just dumb.

it fits with the idea that we are a slave race, we literally cannot do anything without some involvement in the conspiracy

that he just ups and decides not to kill the fat ass. I wouldn't have minded it as much if it was built up throughout the story a bit, but it just seems so out of place, especially now with brotherhood looming and the fact that he obviously doesn't stop killing people.
I don't want a modern Assassin's Creed because hanging out in 15th century Venice is so much more awesome. We've already got so many open-world games set in modern times. For me AC's biggest selling point is the awesome ancient cities they've set their franchise in.
I like the theory that he left Borgia alive just to spite him. Ezio had just infiltrated the most secure part of Rome, and gotten into the Sistine Chapel, to very nearly assasinate Roderigo while he was giving a sermon. Then he shows him that he has mastered the piece of eden, then he beats him into submission and then, he shows Roderigo that he isn't the prophet, or whatever it was, he's nothing special, and he will never learn the secrets of what's inside that place. Leaving him alive is basically a way of saying 'You are useless, and I am so much better than you that I don't even consider you a threat any more.'
Also, Borgia dies pretty horribly historically, so there's always that for Brotherhood.
That was great, and shows how the QA team got the balance on the money, so that the inexperienced people can still play to satisfaction and finish at a high rank.
