alright, well I was going to post the rest, but it would have taken up like three posts, so someone just tell me if they need to see it and I'll post it
So, last night I abruptly left the server. This was because my computer spontaneously shut itself off, and currently only lasts about thirty seconds to a minute after power-on before shutting itself down again. It looks like the CPU is busted-- the temperature just shoots way up and doesn't stop. The short of it, then, is that I'm going to be away from the servers for some indeterminate amount of time. Hopefully you'll all be able to survive without my sporadic Medicing until then?

tried logging back in, steam quits unexpectedly
checked the steam apps thing again, looks like steam made a new clientregistry.blob thing
deleted the old old file, renamed the new one, restarted, logged in, same fucking thing
should I just try to outright delete both client files or is this something deeper?

following the advice of the posters there, I deleted the wingui file, and restarted steam
logged in, gave me a steam is updating platform files downloader thing, waited a bit, and now it seems that it works
