    Thank you to everyone who helped with the map test again today. The map seems to be moving forward. The next map test will probably be sometime at the beginning of next week. rRootagea has offered a hand at testing some layout changes over the weekend.

    Yeah i figured if an engineer could actually build a nest up there with the little amount of time they have, they would probably be doing good. A soldier should be able to kill sentries up there fairly easily or any ubers coming out of the gate. The lighting will be brighter for the next test, no light detailing has been done yet, that's way down the road.

    The stuff I noticed:

    a) Water area seems cool, but it's too hard to get out of. It seems like there's only a couple places to jump out. Is an awesome way for people to escape fights though.. it's fairly hard to see into the water.
    b) Defense spawn feels too far from offense spawn. Takes 20 seconds for a pyro to make the run.. there is no way in hell engineers are going to be able to build up. Spawning in general as defense felt like I spent too much time getting to the action.. it could be the routes as much as it is the distance.
    c) I love the look of point B, but it's pretty hard to navigate. Especially getting to the health kit that's at the base.. getting in and out feels slow.
    d) Skybox might be too low.. trying to sticky jump from the sniper ledge to point B, I hit the roof. It was a bad jump but I still would have made the point.
    e) I'd like to see the train integrated with the opening area somehow.. it just kind of pops out of the wall near point A, and disappears on the way to B.
    f) Not sure offense needs a forward spawn at all. It is a long run to get to point B, but teleporters are supposed to fix that.

    I would like to see the next playtest with really short spawn times.. not instant spawn, just low enough for both teams so we can see how stalemates feel. Getting a full server eventually might help too.

    There's a lot of wiggle room in this list being highlander with 14 people, obviously I won't be able to have everyone in the opening lineup.
    Optimal opening line-up would be something like:

    pyro - guar
    demo - hey you
    heavy - ebo
    engineer - tofu
    medic - mandy
    sniper - crash
    spy - deveric

    Also, for anyone interested in map testing, I really recommend playing against bots. It shows a lot of patterns you might not notice. Bots are kind of stupid when it comes to setup time, but they defend point A and B pretty good.

    Since the map doesn't come with a mesh, you gotta make it yourself:

    a) start tf2 and load the map
    b) bring up console, sv_cheats 1
    c) in the console, run 'nav_generate'
    d) Wait a minute or so.
    e) Map will reset when finished.
    f) Bring up console, type 'tf_bot_add"
    g) Press up arrow and hit enter until you have enough bots.

    I recommend not actually playing, just load in as a C&D spy and watch the fights.

    Is an easy way to get playtesting without needing players.. can show some types of problems.

    I'm starting to like the theme I'm building up with trainwreck:

    Textures aren't perfect, and the map is a little too dark, but it feels like it's starting to turn in to something.

    I really need to do something with the brick texture. I kind of want a gloomy subterranean archway look, but none of the textures in tf2 seem to work for that. I might have to make one.

    Rolands a great medic. You could always roll Mandy over to scout if needed. I also don't mind playing scout.

    Looking good. I like the golden lighting coming out of the tunnel in the 3rd picture. I agree with brick texture. Seems like it needs to be broken up, but on the other hand, no one really looks up too much.

    The brick texture would look perfect if you tweaked the geometry some, to get rid of the impossible things going on where the arches meet the pillars.

    I think it's just too busy.

    And yes, the geometry is a bit impossible. I think fixing that will be my project for tonight, and finding a texture that works. Maybe larger bricks is the key.. or a less detailed image.

    You should really add Lustre for scout unless 14 ppl is a hard cap since he's a good sniper too.

    I tend to play more soldier than anything lately but in a competitive atmosphere I would consider myself most useful as medic then heavy then soldier. I also don't mind a bit sitting out if it helps the team, which I'm certain it will.

    Fourteen is the hard cap, I'd love to add more people but everyone I got is already committed to playing for now. You guys should make another PA team. There's at least 4 or 5 people who're willing to do it

    This team is kinda hard to organize cause we have a lot of guys who are good at a lot of stuff but very few who specialize at anything. eric, crash and guar were the only guys I knew right away where they'd go.



    Also the polycount update won't be out until christmas
