Was there Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum and Manbat in the issue that came out?
Pretty cool. At least in terms of moving through the completed stuff into the half-finished stuff and all the way down into the roughs. A nice showcase of the cross-section of his process.
Kinda don't dig the Tweedle-Dee and Dum designs and stuff going on there at all, though.

Honestly, what bugs me most about this Tim Drake Robin/Red Robin thing is that Red Robin is such a stupid fucking name
Like, why would they continue to use that in the New 52. It's never made sense and it's a damn hamburger resaurant
Tim should have just become Nightwing (and I feel the red and black costume would have made more sense for him) and let Dick stay as Batman. Bruce can be the jet-setting world-traveling Batman that also appears in the Justice League while Dick stays as the Batman of Gotham City. Not sure which one Alfred should be with. To expand Bruce's world-traveling supporting cast, maybe bring back Sasha Bordeaux as Bruce's bodyguard since he'd be an obvious target during this Batman Inc stuff and give her back her purple superhero outfit and ignore all the cyborg stuff that happened to her.
While we're at it, let Tim still be in charge of the Wayne Enterprises stuff in Gotham since he assumed control of it while Bruce was dead to cut off Hush's access, and then you can have him operating out of Wayne Towers penthouse or something (like in the 70s when Bruce was dating Silver St. Cloud and operating from the penthouse so he'd be closer to the heart of Gotham and have a faster response time).
On a related note, I know the New 52 still said Dick was Batman, but did they ever offer an explanation for why he stopped being Batman?
Were there as many complaints about the Red Robin name when Tim started using the identity back in 2009? All I remember were a few gripes about him being drawn as a muscular beefcake when in costume.

Yeah, there were complaints even then, both about the name itself and how it made no sense for him to be adopting an identity used by Jason Todd and later one of his own villains.
And we complained about the costume, though looking back it was at least better than the one he has now.
Hell, I thought the name was stupid back when it first appeared in Kingdom Come.

I believe the explanation is the very reasonable one that Dick does not like being Batman. It goes back to Morrison's Batman & Robin run where Dick talks with Alfred about how the mantle just doesn't feel right, and how when Bruce came back, Dick immediately tried to give it up before Bruce asked him to keep it while he went around the world to setup Batman Inc. Once Bruce was ready to settle down in Gotham again I believe its simply assumed that Dick gladly gave up the Bat mantle and went back to being Nightwing.
Dick being Batman in DCnU makes no sense. He would have only been around 21 or 22 at the time so he would have been very inexperienced. Not to mention the fact that Bludhaven no longer exists in the DCnU so Dick would have had no experience protecting an entire city by himself.

Add to it Gates of Gotham seems to have happened still (Snyder says all his work still counts), and then we have DC seemingly going real time with the comics right now, as they say Joker has been gone for a year, DC is setting up too many places to trip themselves up.
Yeah I just don't think about it too much. It really makes very little sense and they're just shoehorning it all in after the thought. Whats the point in te fans trying to make sense of something thay creators (or publishers/editors?) havent even thought through properly? In my mind the pre-new 52 is all still canon and we'll probably have someone like Morrison bring it all back in a few years!

A variant cover for Batman #14 has me wondering something:
Harley, did she lose the big wooden mallet? Has this shown up in Suicide Squad?
Yup she's lost the mallet and replaced it with a sledgehammer. It's like they let Todd McFarlane give her an "edgy" new design. For me personally it's not that her new design is more sexualised, it's just that it's bad. The old costume just looked real nice and it was sexy in its own way and was very iconic/original. This is a cookie cutter step backwards imo.
I haven't read her new comics so I can't comment on her personality but her new look totally lacks character.
Harley was sexy in her own way and it never had a damn thing to do with the costume.
I'm ready to make the plunge into actually reading Bat-titles. After the suggestions in here, I've got my Comixology cart filled up with the first volume of New 52 Batman, and a sampling of Detective Comics, Batman & Robin, and Red Hood #1's to get a taste. I'll check out Batman Incorporated once I'm up to that point in time since I believe it was a second wave New 52 title. I really don't know anything about Batgirl, Batwoman, Batwing, or The Dark Knight, so I'm giving those a pass for now.
The new design just makes no sense. The reason why Bruce Timm and Paul Dini named her Harley Quinn is because her design is inspired by harlequins. Why would they change her so that her costume looks nothing like a harlequin? It would be like if they changed Killer Croc to look like a turtle.

Incorporated is self-contained, at least so far. You could start it anytime, but I'd recommend doing so sooner than later as it jockeys with B&R and my favorite Bat-book.

And there's a whole bunch of pre new 52 INC titles which seem to be pretty consistent with the new 52 INC storyline. I highly advise you read those too. They're so so good. Especially the first issue.

Batwoman is fantastic, but if you ever decide to give it a whirl you'll want to start at Detective Comics #854 and read up to #863 before grabbing Batwoman #1. Her self-titled series keeps all of her Pre-New 52 continuity (which is pretty important) and continues from where Detective 863 it left off.
Other than that, it's completely self-contained from the rest of the Batbooks. She does show up in a few other comics, but it never has any bearing on her own stories.

There are a billion cool bird names that would've worked better than Red Robin.
I would name him something like Rook or Red Rook
That'd be cool if he was recruited to Checkmate.
ROOKS ARE BIRDS
I know, but it'd still work for Checkmate.
And having him go into government work would help differentiate him from the other Robins, not to mention the fact that Waller would crap her pants if she could get her hands on an operative trained by Batman.

I'll definitely give those a look. Especially If they pop up on a $1 sale.
I came into it blind with Detective Comics and didn't have too much trouble. I was confused about why the RoC was interested in Batwoman and vice-versa, but they imply enough about her past run-ins with them to get the gist of it.

The writing in Shadow of the Bat #90 for examples was terrible!
To be fair, most of the good names have already been taken. I mean, Cassandra Cain became the Black Bat.
That said--
Am I crazy, or would Shadow of the Bat be kind of a cool code-name for a sidekick of Batman? Shadow for short, I guess.
Then, when they have their big sidekick-no-more moment, they just become The Bat.
