Ok, so theres a lot of comic book people in this thread. Whats the current deal with gambit, whats his best comics, and liklehood he'll be in game? I thought they were doing a movie about gambit, so had high hopes. Love him in the video games, and being a kid born in 81, grew up with the Xmen cartoon and fell in love with the character.
*edit* does vietful joe remind anyone else of stryder in the gameplay video?
Having both TvC and MvC2 I can tell you Joe doesn't play anything like Strider. Everything I've seen so far makes him look like his TvC version so that probably still holds true in this game.

Ah, I didn't expect Gene to get in anyway, the only thing I know of this game is a video someone linked me of VJ in it. Just wanted to keep up appreances as resident VJ fanboy.
Trying to figure out who will be in Capcom's upcoming Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds is a guessing game at this point. At E3 we were able to determine that neither Loki nor the Punisher made the cut, but that still leaves thousands of possible characters to choose from. We decided it was time to narrow down the list a bit.
Considering that Capcom recently revealed Marvel's demonic lord Dormammu would be in the game, a savvy comic reader might assume that Dr. Strange would also be making an appearance in the game, especially since Strange is one of the few Marvel characters who I can actually remember having fought Dormammu. But you know what they say about assuming.
When we asked Marvel vs. Capcom 3's producer Ryota Niitsuma about this in a recent interview, he said, "It's a tricky question to answer because everyone always asks if their favorite character will be in the game, but half of the characters haven't been revealed yet, so we don't want to spoil anything. But I will say that Dr. Strange won't be in the game."
Later on we came back to the subject of characters, and we tried to trick Niitsuma into letting something else slip by asking him if Marvel had rejected any of Capcom's character suggestions. Niitsuma wouldn't say anything, but he put his finger to his lips, and then made a visor motion across his eyes before drawing an X across his chest. We don't speak sign language, be we assume that Niitsuma was telling us to look closely into our hearts for the answer.
We just crossed a few names off our giant list of thousands of possible characters. We're going to narrow the field down eventually. Capcom can't keep this a secret for long.
And I'd be really surprised if Akuma doesn't make it. He's been in pretty much every Vs. game, has he not?
He wasn't in MvC1, except in the form of Ryu being able to switch movesets into his.
He wasn't? Hm, my memory's off then. Well in fairness it's been quite some time since I've played the original. Even so, he's been in most of them, so it seems likely he'd make the cut.

He's been in the same number of VS games as Cyclops, Charlie, Gambit, Ken, M. Bison, and Dhalsim. And he's been in less VS games than Zangief. One of those was recently confirmed to not be in the game and I'd say that quite a few of the others won't be either.
* - Akuma wasn't in MvC1, but Ryu could palette-swap and use all his moves for the cost of 1 meter per shift.
* - Cyclops was a non-playable helper character in MvC1
* - Charlie wasn't in MSHvSF, but Shadow was, who uses Charlie's model and basic moveset. Shadow was also a non-playable helper character in MvC1
* - Ken wasn't in MvC1, but Ryu could palette-swap and use all his moves for the cost of 1 meter per shift.

Actually, they said they were staying away from characters with similar moves, so the shoto's are pretty much out.
Ill compromise on that Antihippy - my point with keeping training/challenge locked was that I am a firm believer in needing some kind of valuable reward for actually getting good at the game. I'm one of the weird people who believes that getting 1000/1000 gamerpoints on any given game should be hard as balls. There should be one or two achievements that only the people who explore every area, learn every trick, and master every technique should get - thats why they're achievements.
So I feel like there SHOULD be some characters that serve as a reward for those who really play the game a lot and get great at it. And skins and costumes could fill that role very nicely.
That way, both you and I can play as Thor straight out of the box - but when I see you are rocking CLASSIC COSTUME Thor, and I still just have Ultimate, I know you are going to be a tough fight
See, but with taking the game online I don't feel as if unlockable characters are a good idea. I don't want to have to play through story mode with every character in the game just to unlock Dormammu. I don't play fighting games for the single player, so why should it dictate what I can use in multiplayer?
Cosmetic stuff, sure. I'll play through the game to unlock colors and taunts and costumes and what not, but don't force me to play one aspect of the game to unlock characters for another.
EDIT: I agree on the subject of achievements though. Just not characters.
How are made up and arbitrary numbers a more valuable reward than just being really good at the game?
Anyway, every fighting game released after Soulcalibur 2 had no excuse for unlockables being stuck in single player content. Both 2 and 3 had the elegant alternative of making everything unlockable in at least 2 different ways: a direct route by playing the single player content that would unlock it, or an less direct route by just playing multiplayer games. Every few multiplayer games would unlock something, so you could still get everything in the game by just playing with other people.
This may already have been stated, but I noticed Dormammu has a move where one hand starts glowing red, then he used it again and his other started glowing blue. Then he seemed to do it a third time and his hands burst into purple flame. He seemed to be saying "Power of the" before being cut off each time. Anyone with better comic knowledge have any idea what he might be doing?
The fight between Dante and Deadpool started as follows:
1. They find themselves in a bar. Deadpool gets the glasses and they start to drink.
2. The conversation goes around until Deadpool starts talking about his favorite tv show.
3. Dante said that Golden Girls was "Just okay."
3. Then the fight started.

What I'd do for a animated/comic tie-in for the game.
I just watched the GC trailer, and saw the movie for the Chun-Li/Dr. Doom fight. I hope they release the cinematic for the rest of the characters soon, I'd love to see how they have Amaterasu and Thor face off.
Plus we might get to see a movie of Dormammu vs. Joe. All powerful demon fighting a super-deformed, masked hero. It'd be like watching a sentai show.
Alright...not having Dr. Strange is really weird. Their choices are really confusing.
As for Gambit, I know he got turned into Apocalypse Jr. (or something) for a while. I remember finding that comic at the store and just dying laughing. Gambit with that weird blue/gray/purple face...

Apocalypse turned him into one of his Horseman (Death) after the events of House of M. Not sure why they went with the skin and hair color change though, most of the Horsemen don't look all that different from their normal selves.

Chamber was the one that got turned into " Apocalypse Jr.". Gambit was Death, but that's no longer the case.
Oh god, it was Chamber, wasn't it? I think I'd blocked that out because I actually liked him.
Everyone in Gen X was so cool, and then they wound up murdering or otherwise wasting all of them.
And that's what I said about Shuma earlier, I was just astounded they'd make such a big deal about Dormammu in the trailer and all and then still not include Strange. After doing the same thing before.

Then again, we had Blackheart and no Ghost Rider last time and Doom and Super-Skrull but F4 this time.

I don't hate green people, just their shins.
I honestly want to see VJ mach speed punching the Hulk's shins only to be punted ala the bad guy in the most recent live action Hulk movie.

The sheer self-praising douchbaggery shall overwhelm my foes.
1) M. Bison
2) Wesker
3) Akuma
That's from most to least likely as I see it. Others don't really have a chance.
Edit:
I'd put Virgil but 2 DMC characters means there probably wont be a third
Also Gene was already confirmed as not in.
Sorry, but I think they've specifically said that Gene isn't in.
This right here. I would love this instead of reusing volnutt/zero from TvC or some nonsense.
And I'd be really surprised if Akuma doesn't make it. He's been in pretty much every Vs. game, has he not?
Agreed. I always thought he had a cool character design too, and he has a wide range of displayed moves for his moveset.
