I'm level 25 now, got my 5th fygg, should I start trying maps now? I know the first one you get seems easy until the boss steam rolls you so I didn't want to start it too early.

Honestly it's probably not too worth it until you beat the game. New maps you get are based on your maximum character level, so you want to be pretty high for it to be worth it.
Are Hocus Chimera's poison resistant? I've gone through 10 and haven't managed to poison any of them.
Higher magical might increases the chance of the poison knife skill working. Try having a mage do it.
Bwa? Why has no one told me this before?!
Does magical might help with any other skills like this?
This thread is extremely cyclical, that's like the third time I've said it here. :P
Fair enough. How the hell did you find this out though? I don't think I've seen anywhere that referenced that magical might affected poisoning. Any idea if it affects other on hit effects (like say instant death )?

I searched it at GameFAQs when I was having trouble. It might even be a lie, I have no idea, but using a mage suddenly makes it much easier. That's all I know.
Alright, so I'm still a little new to this slime hunting thing and could use some tips.
So far, I've got a pretty clear path as far as skills are concerned. Got dudes learning spears and axes, and I may work one down a Thief>Hunter>Knife path for the crithax.
My question is, in what order should I tackle the slime hunting? Like, should I do liquid metal slimes to level 40, then start working on finding a grotto for metal slime kings? Or go to the Tower of Nod and look for kings at some point? And is there any way to make it easier to find liquid metal slimes on slime hill, because goddamn do they like to hide in the trees.

I had no trouble at all doing this with my thief. First 3 Hocus Chimeras I found were envenomed in one shot and I just spammed War Cry and Pratfall until they died. My thief was wearing little to no Magical Might enhancing gear. I suppose I could've gotten ridiculously lucky though.

Tower of Nod kings are extremely rare and not worth it, I don't think they even physically show up (they're random in other groups).
To find metal slimes in grottos you have to get high level maps, and to get high level maps you need to have equally high levels yourself. I don't even know if you can find LMSs in level 40 grottos. Personally, slime hill is plenty fast for me, I'm going to get to 99 there and then use grottos to level the other classes up afterwards.
Slime hill is much easier once you get a good circuit going. On my game, from the cave I go straight south, spawning one enemy in the clearing to the right. Then I run along the bottom edge of the cliff, spawning another to the northeast of the clearing. Keep pushing right, and another will spawn directly above you in the woods. Run northwest and then straight west through the trees and one or two others will spawn on the way back to the cave.
Once you know what LMSs look like when they plop down, and the exact moments that spawns will occur, you'll be able to watch for them and get them every single time.
Just unlocked the Gladiator and Armamentalist classes last night. I damn near went psycho trying to kill those cowardly Metal Slimes AFTER using Wizard Ward... THANK GOD MY HERO HAD METAL SLASH.
Damn warrior quest. I got my first crit completely unintentionally. I was just doing the waterways dungeon and a zombie got pissed then we critted it.
Now that I'm running around killing Axohols (they're very vulnerable to whistle I find) I can't score a decent crit. In fact, the only crit I've landed since I started was a critical heal
Is there anything better than Thunder Thrust for hunting metals? Somehow I doubt it.
Hatchet Man.
Alright, so it's exactly the same, I just like axes better.
I'm assuming the chance for critical with those moves is higher than the chance of instant-kill with Puncture Point? Although if the spear-wielder is strong enough at least PP still does damage on a "miss".
Where can you buy Sorcerer's Stones? I only just figured out that you can buy Pink Pearls in Dourbridge.
I wish the wardrobe would list which towns sell the equipment, like the item list lists which areas you can harvest the items from.
Man... I looked EVERYWHERE for Gold Bracers one time. The Wales analog (Porth Llwhatever) was like the 12th place I checked, of 12 choices that had item stores. They sell Gold Rings there too so I stocked up on both. :P
Just read the first page and the last four. I've searched GameFAQs and random google searched, but all to no avail.
Where can I find descriptions of all the attributes and what they do? I want to know WHY I'm raising Strength +10 or Charm +10 or Tension +10 or whatever.
(Is it in the manual? Please don't tell me it's in the manual. I just moved on Sunday and that manual is packed under a mound of stuff SOMEWHERE.)

I don't know either... I only assume.
I think Charm increases the chance that enemies will get horny over you
Strength increase physical attacks
Deftness makes you faster perhaps...
Tension is a scaling one-time power increase

No lie, When I changed tactics, this quest became actually incredibly easy, I don't think envenomation expires, so I ended up equipping my MC with a paring knife (I have used him for all the class specific quests, so he has stuff like 3 points in sword, 8 points in knife, etc) then had everyone else in the party war cry over and over until the chimeras died.

Charm makes enemies sometimes shocked at your awesome appearance. Tension is not a stat. Agility makes you act sooner in battle, deftness helps you steal, crit and dodge attacks.

Yeah, the last time I was there I bought 10 of each, and I'll probably be back for more pretty soon once I get back into crafting.
I've been repeating the hexite quest while I'm going through low-level grottos. I'm not actually repeatedly killing Shogum, but the free Lucidia Shards every time he randomly appears are a nice bonus.
Deftness also increases your chance to catch enemies by surprise (IIRC). But yeah, its just what I know from the manual.
Also, (in case it wasn't obvious) magical might increases magic damage, and magical mending increases amount healed from spells.
Though that brings up another question, does magical mending affect healing from abilities as well? Stuff like Miracle slash or Caduceus? That I don't know.

I'd say it's a safe bet. I'd also guess they increase crit chance for spells of their respective types.
I haven't noticed any real difference between my BLM and my WHM when they use their Staff of Judgement whirl, but there is a big level gap between them (blm is much lower) and a lot of gear boosts both stats, so I would have to test more.

I seem to remember finding a book that was too hard for me to read in the Gittingham palace. What's with that?
It's probably related to a quest, possibly a future downloadable one.
Interesting observation: in the Quest Log, the post-game quest where you have to summon Lleviathan is labeled as "story". The weird thing is that so is one of the random quests two entries down: the one where you have to deliver a full set of platinum equipment.
The downloadable quest with Erinn is marked as story as well, but like the Lleviathan quest, it involves more scripting and such. Does the platinum quest make any changes to the state of the world? If it does, that could be what causes the Story tag.
I do love my Gladiator with 100 axes (who happens to be my MC), but I wish I had went swords with him. There's a certain rusty sword that's better than everything except the ultimate weapons, and is available before you finish the game.

I'm kind of hesitant to look up recipies that I haven't actually found yet, it feels like I'm actively unlocking them as I find them. Are there any that will never appear on bookshelves?

You have to alchemize it to make it good.
Rusty sword x 1 + Glass frit x 9 + Orichalcum x 1
But, really, the ultimate sword and the ultimate axe are only two points apart in terms of power, in the sword's favor, and the Axe's special ability is better. Axe removes tension from the enemy, sword lowers defense. Which sounds nice and all, but...Helm Splitter.

Alright, what's the deal with this quest in Gleeba for hocus chimera feathers? I've already analyzed them and normal chimeras, they don't drop anything feathery except for flurry feathers, and those aren't what the guy wants. Is this a mistranslation of a different enemy or something?

Just kill Hocus Chimeras. They're Quest drops, not normal ones, so they don't show up on the status page.
Warning: it takes forever and the reward is nowhere near worth it.
