Holy shit, was going through 91ville here and a chest on B6 gave me an Attribeauty. For those not paying attention to the last thread, that's the "always attack first, never miss" anti-metal slime Fan.
Just a drop. It didn't seem to take that long for me. I actually found it easier to find them after that Port Lllanan (sp?) and before the cave, than in the desert.

The trouble with having an open mind, of course, is that people will insist on coming along and trying to put things in it. ~ Terry Pratchett
I do love my Gladiator with 100 axes (who happens to be my MC), but I wish I had went swords with him. There's a certain rusty sword that's better than everything except the ultimate weapons, and is available before you finish the game.
I assume once it's alchemized.
I'm kind of hesitant to look up recipies that I haven't actually found yet, it feels like I'm actively unlocking them as I find them. Are there any that will never appear on bookshelves?
Yes. Some (namely, the ultimates and the rusties, I believe) that are given to you based on finishing a DLC quest, and a few that are hidden in the upgraded Quester's Rest bookshelves.

I like to think of the Grottoes as an expanded version of Lufia 2's randomized cave feature.
Alright, I traded in a couple of old games and picked this up on whim today. I haven't played a DQ game in...I don't even know how long...a while, so this oughta be interesting.
Anyone know exactly how the MA's scroll works? I stored 100 tension before I fought the first form of the final boss, and it didn't show up. Was it because it was the final boss or can you not store 100 tension?
Also, would the Thief revocation badge apply to the auto-steal scroll? I'm thinking it would be very helpful for farming drops off grotto & legacy bosses if it does. Is it just the MC who can revocate or can anyone do it?
B4: Rank A Chest right at stairs
B5: A south of stairs
B6: B Chest southeast of stairs
B7: A south of stairs
B8: A in the NorthWest
B9: A west of down stairs
B10: A west of down stairs
B11: A in far NW, S south of down stairs
B12: A in far East
B13: S in center-north
(Confirmed B13 as it gave me an Evac-u-Bell, aka "haha, booby prize".)
If you see a pandora's box, it's B/A/S.
If you see a Gleeban Gold Piece, it's B/A/S.
If you see Orichalcum, it's A/S.
If you see a Gold Bar, it's B/S
If you see a Sage Elixir (common), it's C/B/A/S.
The amount of money is a good way to narrow it down:
1500 means B
3000 means A
S never gives out money.
B gives out oddball weapons that are "next to ultimate weapons", like Attribeauty or Megaton Hammer.
A gives out Metal Slime equipment, which can be turned into Liquid Metal Equipment, which can be turned into Metal King Equipment.
S gives out the ultimate weapons-3 (which can be turned into the ultimate weapons-2, which can be turned into Ultimate Weapons-1 (and Ultimate Weapons 10% of the time).
These drops, however, are 1%.
Edit: Metal Slime armor. Nice. It's better than the cosplay gear I had farmed from Baramos. Now I just have to farm a Slime Crown and 6 slimedrops to power it up to Metal King Armor.
Nice, so that means we don't necessarily need to keep a class skill at 0 before revocating to max them all out, right?
I'm currently stopping myself from constantly switching the MC's class so I can beef up the max level for the Grottos. I'm hoping once that slime hill unlocks I'll be able to quickly grind all my classes up to 20-30 before tackling the endgame.
So, connecting the DS to Nintendo WFC is a royal pain in the ass. Does anyone know if the Gamestop DS hotspots are still a thing? How are you guys connecting?
I used my import copy as well as an AR + a save file I downloaded to get Masayuki's map. It has Metal King Slimes exclusively on L15, making it legendary in Japan (Masayuki was even interviewed in Famitsu about it). If I was playing it in Japan, on the public transit system, no doubt I would have ran into it by now, it's that frequently shared.
But I'm not in Japan, and technically speaking I used a cheat device to get the map. I have so far avoided using it at all. But now that I'm at the high-end post game (starting to farm for ultimate weapons, for example), the urge is really starting to pull on me.
I guess I can just keep working on finding my own Platinum King Jewel map, or farming Metal Kings in the maps I have that have them, but... ugh... There's such a huge difference between farming L15 of Masayuki (every fight is a MKS fight) and farming a MKS every 5-10 minutes.
Although, to be honest it only took me about 45 minutes to go from like 78 to 93 last night doing it in the dungeon I do have, so...
I found a pack of 30 saves and used my buddy's AR to get the guests I needed for all the inn upgrades at Stornway. I have no other way of getting those guests, so I don't feel bad about it. I could bug him again to get Masayuki's map and a bunch of other famous ones but I'm not really interested (yet?). The way I figure it, since there is no other possibility of sharing maps or tagging for guests, and I'm not spreading around my 'impure' data, I don't feel bad about it.
Well... You already have the access to the map now, be it illegitimate or not, so the cat's out of the bag as it were.
Given enough time, (albeit that is an extremely long amount of time being given) you'd have found the same or better version of the map on your own, or been passed it via tag at a meet-up or a convention.
It's really a question of whether you think giving yourself access to the map without 'earning' it as it were cheapens your enjoyment of the game. You'll still have to hunt down those Kings and kill them and grind up the levels.
I don't really see why it would, personally. If it's a matter of principle, then why even bother with the AR and downloaded save file in the first place?

BLARG. See my quandary?
Meh, who cares. Tag mode is virtually DOA on this side of the ocean. The only way to get these super maps is to essentially win the lottery with the random generator. Heck, I would be tempted to cheat in the legacy boss maps, if it's true we won't even see them for over a year, while any other japanese player can go down the street to the arcade and tag them that way.
Flat out unethical cheating would be simply hacking your levels up to 99, or spawning metal slimes in the first area, stuff like that. What you're doing... well it is technically cheating, but if it's literally the only realistic way to get things, then I don't really see the problem.
The Wolfman on
"The sausage of Green Earth explodes with flavor like the cannon of culinary delight."
I'd put that on the same level of cheating as getting an Event Pokemon.
As in, it's completely OK by me. You're not breaking the game, you're using cheat codes to unlock content that normally you would never be able to access.

To be more accurate, I'd say it's like cheating in the event item to GET the pokemon, and capturing it yourself, rather than simply cheating in the pokemon directly.

Hm, the comparisons to the event maps is a good point.
I'm not going to use the map.
Finding MKS on my own isn't THAT slow, it's just that Masayuki's is just so absurdly fast in comparison. I'm sure if I make it to PAX *someone* will be handing it out there, and upon seeing it my reservations will vanish, but until then...
As for how far ahead I am, that's more abuse of the L38 = 100 skillpoints + passive skilltress = lolpower + 100 tension + oomph + big attack = dead boss than anything else. That, and I have something like 150 - 200 hours in DQ9 already.
My import copy of DQMJ2 showed up today. No Furigana, which means reading it has went from "impossible" to "lol".
Psh, spoilers don't apply to games that old, even if they did get re-released! I never beat DQ3 and I already know who the last boss is! Also I think they show kids and such on the cover of the game. :P
Actually the real reason to marry Deborah is that she's hilarious and also good at actual combat. I hear the other two aren't anything special.
A. Even though she has ok skills and decent equips for going physical she has terrible stats.
B. You're a monster for not taking Bianca the first time.

I suggest you change a couple people's jobs and build up skill points while you do it.

The evidence of my MC Murderating Bosses seems to atest otherwise.

It's the kill x with y quests that are real killers.
On this note, how do you pull off the level 15 paladin quest? Should I just take off all my paladin's armor and let the bad guys pummel her?
Also, would the Thief revocation badge apply to the auto-steal scroll? I'm thinking it would be very helpful for farming drops off grotto & legacy bosses if it does. Is it just the MC who can revocate or can anyone do it?
the best way is to take a character with no inherent defense bonuses, teach them pincushion, switch them to a bare mage of level 10-15.
Even better if you can get all three non tank characters like this.
I was gonna make my main character the paladin actually, and go out solo with the sacred armor (or is it sacrosanct?) and just do it solo.
EDIT: On second thought that is the opposite of what I should do. Armor just makes it harder.

So now I know what to farm.
Naked. I used some extra gold to put everyone in the bikini with zero armor because why not?
It's possibly the most annoying quest in the game.

Gonna take it (and DQ9) along with me on my trip.

It took me over an hour farming gold golems to find the one fake one. I managed to make over 30,000 gold.
The reward for this?
Seriously.
That's two golems worth.
