The Guiding Principles and New Rules document is now in effect.
So, apparently it's been confirmed that the big villain in the new Batman movie will be The Riddler.
Many of you have said this is a lame character but this guy is interested in playing him:
I'm sure with Nolan helming the script this could be interesting. Picture a plot like Inception but with The Riddler putting Batman through some labyrinthine scenario. I mean it's really hard to decided which villain to use when the series is set up as being somewhat "realistic". I really can't picture villains like Clayface and Man-Bat ever making an appearance. Catwoman is doable I guess.
That's what I was wondering. But at the same time she's a single cat-burglar. I just can't picture this big epic movie with her as the central villain. She doesn't have henchmen and she isn't really interested in defeating Batman at all. She'd have to be a supporting character.
I wonder if the Riddler would work if he was this devious fraudster/scammer in a dark green suit that pulls off some massive electronics heist while keeping Batman busy with hallucinogens and a maze of riddles that are supposed to help him stop some giant bomb going off like in Die Hard 3? I dunno I guess that would be Die Hard 3 then.
A casting grid is used in the industry to keep production companies, agencies, etc. in the loop on a project's progress and the roles available for actors to potentially take. These documents are used for business planning in the industry and by no means would use internet speculation to list a character that may not even appear in the film.
The Riddler is actually a good choice, I think. It would actually allow for the one aspect of Batman we've yet to see in the movies - the detective. The Riddler's pretty much the perfect villain to showcase that.
I just registered to reply to this thread. If they're going to use The Riddler then the ONLY story they should use is "Dark Knight, Dark City", put simply the best story with the Riddler I've personally ever read. It really made The Riddler into a sinister villain and even better the actual city of Gotham becomes a character. Here's two blog posts about it:

As long as they don't cheat their way out of it like they did with the bullet thing in The Dark Knight
I was going to suggest Scarecrow as a cool villain, but then found out that he was in Batman Begins, a movie that while good, was totally overshadowed by its sequel, causing me to completely forget about it.
Also I'm glad this will shut up those remaining few morons who were just so insistent that the guy who was going to expose Bruce in TDK was actually the Riddler
