Sometimes the world gen is just amazing. I found an awesome series of tunnels. They led all the way down to the lava layer. I left with over 100 iron ore and 20 gold. I only left when all I had left was a couple of iron picks.
Weird bug: can't interact with blocks properly across some vertical plane. I can hack at blocks PAST the one in front of me, but can't get at that one closest unless I get past that plane. Weird.

My current map is amazing too. I got a cave like that with numerous drops and gaps that I had to bridge to explore. It even had a dungeon with a chest and a record.
And then I sailed off to another island and found a natural bay where I built a new base of operations. Then I climb a hill at the back of the harbor and see a massive plain, surrounded by mountains soaring into the clouds.
If I have my way with it, there will be a massive, sprawling city there.
Someone already linked it in this thread but it doesn't seem like a lot of you are using it. It really helps. Chests are still useless but you keep your inventory between logouts, which makes it a hell of a lot easier.

PERSISTENT INVENTORY!
This is by no means a permanent solution, but here it is - client-side persistent inventory!
If you use this JAR file to open Minecraft, it will save your inventory every few seconds. If you quit and rejoin, your inventory will still be there!
This does not fix chests, furnaces, or anything like that. It only stores your character's inventory. Crafting slots are also discarded on disconnect.

In other news, whoever had the idea of making fireplaces is a fucking genius.
But why stop there?
I've been having trouble with the inventory thing. When I've been using it, I keep getting this "socket write error" and crashing out of the server I'm playing on.

hey, vets, noob here, quick question: about how big is this game, filesize-wise? This thread is really really making me want to check this game out, but I don't own a computer. I could definitely download it on my roomate's computer, but I don't wanna download some huuge file onto his computer, you know?
This mincraft game is getting really big. I'm surprised. And I feel so special I was playing it when there was only dirt, no multiplayer. And you hit 'G' to spawn the human mobs.
I've started working on a Link skin. There's probably twelve others by now, but this one is mine. The face has issues, though. I'm also really bad at shading.

Goddamn love Vic's super-cave. I guess now with the features this alpha has over the classic version, I might be able to realise my dream of building an underground street/town.
Also an awful lot of things seem to be bursting into flame.
Congratulations to the griefers and thieves, and a fuck you. I'm tired of rebuilding and remaking stuff and having it stolen and or destroyed, I'm done.

Is this game like, sort of, a cute + accessible version of Dwarf Fortress?
The bizarro version of Dwarf Fortress, basically?
No, not really.
They share perhaps a similiar concept of mining for materials and crafting them into resources but beyond that they're two quite different games.
I don't know, I could kind of think of it as first person, one man dwarf fortress.
I frantically dig through the earth, searching for precious ores and natural wonders, all the while dodging monsters and perilous chasms. I build giant monuments to no one, I carve out huge sections of land and tame the world around me.
I drown, I burn, I fall, I get crushed, I get blown up, I got shot full of arrows, I get assaulted, I die.

You build Canadian flags that we append wangs to. :P
Lookin sexy. I love my waterfall tower (this is bubesteak). If anyone builds another tower as tall as mine, I'm connecting a bridge to it. Just warning you. Even if it's on the other side of the map.
Also Vic, I'm gonna neeed about... 40 more icecubes, haha!
For those frustrated with griefers there will be passworded servers at some point. They are completely open now which allows for all sorts of douchebaggery. Also land claims will be in as well which will prevent tampering.

I am on the road crew. I am repairing the road.

Personally, I like your QuakeGuy better than the real one. It keeps the detail level of the skin and model in sync.

What is it that you're burning? Wood?
we step ever closer to recreating the third lord of the rings movie
This was on Notch's blog, full song is in the info. It truly is great.

Yeah, the raw lumber.
Once the next server version gets released, probably.
That's awesome.

I've been distracted by other things the last couple of days. SMP stable enough to play? Or is it buggy and not 100% worth it yet?
There was a post made on the Team Fortress 2 blogs a week or so back, so that might explain some of the new players.
[edit]:
Actually, linking to creeper porn just seems like a bad idea.
I'm intrigued.

alright, first things first: get rid of the white inbetween the eyes
then read the OP of this thread
I have made a texture layer for ease of use so you dont have to cut it out of the terrain.png

Sweet! Thank you. :-)
