Hey vic, you know that hallway at the bottom of the stairs to the underground forest? You know how it has a dead end one way? I plowed through the other side about 5 blocks deep and found:
Someone already linked it in this thread but it doesn't seem like a lot of you are using it. It really helps. Chests are still useless but you keep your inventory between logouts, which makes it a hell of a lot easier.

PERSISTENT INVENTORY!
This is by no means a permanent solution, but here it is - client-side persistent inventory!
If you use this JAR file to open Minecraft, it will save your inventory every few seconds. If you quit and rejoin, your inventory will still be there!
This does not fix chests, furnaces, or anything like that. It only stores your character's inventory. Crafting slots are also discarded on disconnect.
There is way, way too much awesome on this server. Treeforts, underground castles, skybridges, watertowers, monuments, you name it and there's a penis shaped version of it here
Whoa, Vic's server is laggy as hell right now. Maybe I'll get on tomorrow then.
Yeah, we found some way to teleport to a new area. It involved jumping down this hole to the blue abyss underneath, killing you, then respawning multiple times while jumping around. You end up in this new area nowhere near the spawn that we're not even sure is on the same map. We all went off in the four directions, and the land gen damn near killed the server, :P.
Hi5 for getting to mine heaven
Did it on Zets when I accidentally fell down my own death pit. Confusing as hell, but awesome
Get a boat and follow the lighthouses to the wooden port, and head towards the excavations. I just found a fuckoff HUGE underground cavern complex. Obsidian, redstone, diamond, all here.
A few nights back, I made a huge underground waterslide for my son. Basically, I started in a ground-level pond, and dug down. I made it wind around, go through some unlit passages, etc. All the way down to bedrock. I came back up to the surface, saved, quit. Now, I can't find the original entrance anywhere. I eventually dug another passageway down to the end, but the water just seems to "start" in that cavern...there is no passageway from the surface.
What happened? Could my original tunnel have collapsed somehow? I've seen gravel blocks slide down if you dig out the block underneath them. Do dirt blocks do the same, only delayed for some reason (thus explaining a cave-in)? If so, what triggers that "fall"?
Sometimes the world gen places sand or gravel with no support. They float like the other blocks until you dig something around them. At that point they realize they should fall, and do so.

Only sand and gravel are affected by gravity, not sure where your entrance could have gone.
oh god, that forest. I want to make that forest how do I make that forest
Prune trees so that only the really big ones grow, then plant saplings on top of those. You can build amazing forests this way. Just keep lava very, very far from it all.
Does anyone have any tips for building quickly? Aside from "look down, jump, drop dirt" to build a very fast one-block pillar, it takes me a long time to make a decent structure. I've seen videos of HUGE un-supported bridges, and I just can't imagine moving to the edge of a block, looking down, turning around, backing up ever-so-slightly, and placing a new one over...and over...and over again. It would take hours, and be nerve-racking trying to NOT step too far and fall.

Here's a few screenshots of my Floating Water Temple:
Still working on the interior a little, but it's starting to come together
Thanks for the ice bricks Vic!
An Admin has to give you an Ice Block, which you can break and turn into a water spring.

It's nice to finally have something I can link people to rather than trying to explain (poorly) just why this game is so damn brilliant.

Everyone should be using this,I was a stupid moron not to:
When is it planned to become one "official" again?
Spreading thin... and so on...
Mainly for the benefit of not crashing any one server with too many people.
Ending was a tad predictable...
Well at least when Katawa Shoujo is late we'll know why.

Silly question time (again): can fire spread to grass? Don't think so, but it'd be good to know before I burn my entire world down :P
Way awesomer to walk through it yourself (Vic's server along the stone road).

I'm thinking about getting a second account I can lend people to show them SMP...
If anyone on Vic's server wants gold, obsidian, diamond or redstone, they can all be found in the caves down the wooden path.

Ending made it really great, even though I had already seen that video.
