For Monster Hunter 3, I've gone and calculated how many of all the depressingly ultra-rare items you will need to make one of everything in the game. This counts one of every weapon, creation & upgrades for all bowgun pieces, and one of each piece of armor for both Blademasters and Gunners. This does not count arena tokens or low-rank armor "rank-up" materials.

    Good luck finding:

    36 Bird Wyvern Gems
    77 Wyvern Stones
    11 Rathalos Rubies
    11 Rathian Rubies
    21 Lagia Sapphires
    15 Uragaan Rubies
    18 Earth Dragongems
    17 Deviljho Gems
    25 Broken Skypiercers
    11 Skypiercers
    11 Azure Dragongems
    51 ElderDragonBlood
    126 Dragonbone Relics
    117 Conqueror's Seals

    Hurgh.

    HUUUUUUURGH

In fact, I'm hurghing so much right now I decided to total up plates as well since they're about as rare as BdWyv Gems in HR.

    12 Rathian Plates
    21 Rathalos Plates
    61 Lagiacrus Plates

My constant overstock of Lagi plates seems much less significant now.

Of course, before you go quitting Tri forever and hanging yourself, remember that my and Ice's totals are counting EV-ER-Y-THING. The majority of those Lagi plates, for instance, went to inferior, redunant branches of Lagi weapon trees. Until you're an old coot with absolutely nothing left to do but CATCH 'EM ALL, you won't be needing anywhere near this many of most of these items.

Preemptive calming of mass hysteria. Oh yeah.

Actually, while all weapons are accounted for in the above total, these high-end, insane-o-rare materials are needed pretty exclusively for the end-forms, and there's not much redundancy.

Alatreon stuff requires rare items for the base and upgrade.
Some of the bowgun upgrades require rare stuff for more than one level.
Both the P & G end-forms of the fossil weapons are accounted for.
Most other divergent weapons don't require stuff this uncommon for more than one variant.

I don't know that you could actually fit one of every weapon and armor in the game. I haven't counted the amount of gear and compared vs the max amount of free space.

You really should get the event Gunlance as soon as you can. It'll hold you deep into the endgame.

Finished my Guild Bard set, now I am a musketeer. Shame about the -23 points in protection though...
Also the Vulcannon bowgun looks amazing. If I were a gunner I'd be using it constantly.

Two days till TGS! I really really want to see how the Gunlance plays out. The trailer made it look so much cooler than before <3

Too bad the planned EN release is 8 months after the JPN release :?

So they announced a US release?! Woot!

I finally, FINALLY got to High Rank. Is Minegarde still the place to go or just where ever? I have one friend who plays the game, and get errors every time we try to get into the same city. D:

    EDIT:

MHTriP, no updates on the multiplayer? So they're still going with what MHFU had?

The footage looks great! Hopefully that PSP comes here.

Alright, whatever it was, it's fixed. Though I have to say, the servers have really taken a sudden drop in population lately. Greed1 is down to about 490, one third of what it was usually at during the summer. :U

Hypothetically, M1G9 is still the meeting place, but we all tend to be impatient and just go fight with rands on Recruiting.

That being said, I'm heading to M1 now if anyone wants to hop on the monster train.

Ok, that new monster hunter psp-3000 is a sexy beast. Extended battery and a concave nub (supposedly more comfortable), and whatever else is making me want to buy yet another PSP.

Though we probably won't see it stateside but oh well. Oh, new trailer out. Bow has an interesting attack, a high arc-mortar-like shot. New monsters are neat looking in action I guess, and black tigrex looks to have a pretty potent scream (looks pretty impressive at least).

I'm curious if when that PSP comes out, we could buy some concave nub replacements from e-bay. I'd be all over that in a heartbeat.

And re-coloring of monsters doesn't bug me that much. I just hope it isn't as bad as MHFU. Almost every monster had an alternate color.

I haven't been this excited about a game in a long time. Dual swords have a new sidestep move, awesome gear, more monsters.

Pretty much a lock I'm importing this. If I can get my hands on the PSP bundle I'm almost ready to do it without hesistation.

And I guess it probably doesn't matter to anyone here (as you're not crazy) but Monster Hunter Frontier 9.0 has been anounced. Nice Trailer can be found here; http://www.mh-frontier.jp/preview/season9/pc/
As usual there's a new monster (or four) and apparently updated moves for some of the old ones.

Some TGS news on Monster Hunter Portable 3
    andriasang wrote:
Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker had a huge tie-up with Monster Hunter that resulted in a Monster Hunter-style bonus gameplay segment featuring actual monsters from the popular Capcom series.

It turns out that the tie-up goes both ways. At a stage event during the first public day of the Tokyo Game Show today, Capcom announced that Monster Hunter Portable 3rd will feature some Metal Gear Solid elements.

A few images that attendees snapped up of the collaboration.
    2mnqfj4.jpg
    ih1ppu.jpg

As reported at 4gamer, the tie-up involves the following areas:

    * MHP3rd will feature Snake male equipment and The Boss female equipment. When equipped, your characters will look like Snake and The Boss.
    * Your companion Felynes will be able to wear sneaking suits, bandanas and hold knives. When you make your hunter duck the Felyne will hide itself in a box.
    * The game will have sound effects and voices from Metal Gear Solid. This includes Snake and The Boss saying the game's trademark "Jouzu ni Yakimashita!" for when you cook meat.

The content will be available as part of a download quest. Details will be shared later.

HNGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG Fuck fuck fuck that PSP is GOOD. I might just buy one, but then there's the possibility of a PSP2 coming out soon, or at the very least in time for MHF3's release! D:

I've also been wondering for the longest time what the girl was blabbering on about when you successfully cook meat, I think it translates to "[you] skillfully cooked meat"?

The Japanese voice always says something along the lines "[you] BBQ'd it well!" Taken less literally, it's a pun saying "Well-done!" referring to your skillful cooking, and the meat.

Special BBQ spits may have had different sayings in the past.

    Nope.

In retrospect, the Wii was the worst choice for MHTri. The DS may have been better.

That being said, they're not doing us any favors with MHP3rd. While it has DLC since the PSP can actually handle it, it doesn't have full online like Tri on the Wii does.

Guess I'll stop being negative, all the new stuff is superbly awesome and the graphic looks great!

And I'll admit, having felynes with their own armor on quests will be fun.

Last time I checked it had the same set up as MHFU. Did it change? If so, you have made me very happy.

EDIT: I checked the wiki and it seems that there is no official news on the exact multiplayer set up except that 4 player ad hoc is confirmed.

Some news sources say there will be infrastructure, some no. I really hope there is, of course.

It really sucks that no one on my list plays MH3 during the day any longer :/

Edit: I was using the fishing skill and Goldenfish bait when I caught what looked like a crazy two-tailed fish. Turns out I had caught two Goldenfish at the same time with a single piece of bait.

I had thought it was simply a graphic error, but when I checked my inventory I found I had actually gotten both fish. I had used 3 pieces of bait to catch 2 Goldenfish (one got away while I was distracted and I lost that piece of bait). After using my 4th piece of Goldenfish bait for this freak catch, I had 4 Goldenfish.

Has anyone else had this happen with or without the fishing skill?

Yeah, it's not particularly uncommon for me, you just have to be a little lucky. I'm sure it can probably happen with other fish as well.
