Anyway, I was looking at the new day/night shots on the JP website, and while it may seem a silly thing, I can't help but find them absolutely gorgeous. If it translates that well in action (and based on the demo, it probably will), I will most likely chalk up a few losses to me gawking at the night sky instead of fighting. :P

The new MH3 skies are very pretty, and unlike the HORRIBLY mangled MHF2/U downconversions from MH2, the MHP3rd skies remain quite pretty.
Tri still looks better, hands down, though. It's so pretty I've been running around the game with the binoculars regularly.
I was bored the other day, so I grabbed a few pictures of the Unite Fatalis' blade armors, for comparison.
Seen above: Dragon S, Dragon X, Fatalis, Fatalis Z, White Fatalis, White Fatalis Z
The differences in the high vs. g-rank is pretty stylistically different! I wasn't really a fan of the fact that the Fatalis and White Fatalis Z armors were based off of high rank Dragon S though.
This is something I missed in Tri; I would've appreciated it more if the High rank armor versions had at least some sort of variation to it. I hope Portable 3 brings this back.
That would be awesome. I would have actually bothered trying to get high rank armor in tri if it at least looked different. Instead I just upgraded low rank armor.
Apparently it was confirmed that the game does NOT have infrastructure mode
Now I need to get fucking XLink Kai Working again, argh!
LttP with this, but this is the worst thing I've heard today.
One of these days I really need to boot Tri back up and finish getting my damn Deviljho gems.
Also, although I'm really not looking forward to this because the Tri arena is garbage, but still need some Hunter King coins if only to upgrade my ancient shard gun.
EDIT: And because I'm just now catching up on P3 info, Urukususu is the most adorable wyvern(well, pelagus). Maybe even more than Pariapuria.

This is pretty much not going to happen. As I'd explained, armor evolutions were part of MH2. One of the key reasons MH2 had so much content was because half of it already existed from MH1, so they were still only creating one game's worth of new content.
Again, when it came time for MHFU, 99% of the new content was not made especially for it -- it downported from MHFrontier Online, which had seen no less than 5 expansions by that time, and now has 9.
Assuming MH4 doesn't reboot again (which it honestly might, since it's likely to come out for PS3 now that MTFramework is done), then we might see the kind of content buildup enjoyed in the MH2-era of games, but I wouldn't count on it.
The sheer amount of content was really only made possible by recycling; the MH1/2/Frontier engines used the same data formats and were in use for about six years and ten major game expansions.
Edit: I'm coming back online, just give me a minute.
Double Edit: I'm online, where is everyone? Is one of you "Vile"?
I faced Barroth once in online play. I don't even know how to begin approaching that thing solo, but I expect I'll eventually kill it by the skin of my teeth. Then later after I've beaten things a hundred times tougher I'll go and kill two of the beasts at once. That seems to be the way things work in this game.
That is indeed the way things work in this game. After about five fights, two of which were successful, I finally figured out the keys to taking down a Barroth and can now wreck their faces. There is something very satisfying in going from cursing a monster's name to regularly breaking a big chunk of its face off and carving it for resources.

Oh thanks, now I'm REALLY hopeful. They have the framework (pardon the pun) with Lost Planet, even made a Los costume for PS3 exclusive. Crossing my fingers so hard for a 2011 announcement :?

I forsee three distinct possibilities for the next MH release after Portable 3rd:
1) MH4 - PS3 & PC, maybe 360. Why? MT Framework wasn't complete when development for MH3 began. Not wanting to delay or waste resources with a equal undertaking that wasn't future-proofed, Capcom produced it for the Wii, and on the scale of MH1. This is no longer an obstacle with MTFramework completed. MTFramework's inherent cross-platform portability also provides for an easy replacement for Monster Hunter Frontier Online on PC. 360 is also possible, though more likely if it gets the MHFO treatment. Additionally, this would allow ports to MTF on 3DS and the presumed MTF for PSP2.
2) MH3G - Wii/PS3, using MTFramework on PS3 release. Why? This meet-everyone-halfway option appeases the entire home-console fanbase, saves money, and still begets the first hi-def version of the game. It also acts as a transitional title re-establishing the series on PS3, and prolongs MH3's longevity, potentially allowing for a repeat of MH2's 5-year lifespan.
3) MHP4th - 3DS/PSP2. Monster Hunter follows the Japanese gaming industry to portables, eschews home consoles. Why? None of the home console MH games have sold as well as any MH Portable game. MT Framework is already available on 3DS and will most likely find its way to PSP2 as well. With more money to be made, better controls to work with than in the past, and games at least as pretty as MH3 possible, why bother with the expense of a less-profitable Hi-Def release?

Sounds like there's some sort of weapon spheres. Similar to armor spheres, it can be applied once to a weapon to boost it. If you upgrade the weapon, the boost is lost, but the new version can then be upgraded if you use more spheres. Kind of sounds like it can give a little extra life to an obsolete weapon before having to upgrade it completely.
Bowguns might be upgradable, similar to other weapons. Or something.
Bonus from having a 2ndG/Unite save: can hire a unique cat, "Pokke" title, mafumofu armor for your felyne and piggie.
Famitsu event quests/items: 3 lances (edit: might be gunlances)- silver, gold and platinum crown. Looks like you're wielding a giant trophy. Felyne samurai armor returns! Brainfox is back, probably a gunlance now? (Looks like it in the picture at least) (edit: maybe not, I dunno. Whatever it is, it's in).
This is all supposedly in the Famitsu hitting stores....today-ish. Probably see more on various sites shortly.
So, cats! Mostly stuff we knew, but you can craft weapon, helmet, and body armor for them, with what's been referred to as "spare parts". Seems you can take some regular parts and convert them into spare parts as well, so guess that could be something.
So I picked this up with the pro controller fairly cheap ($20), and I was more invested I think in the controller than the game. I played the first one, and I have the PSP version and it never clicked too much. I cranked this one up though, and the next thing I knew 4 hours were gone! >,>
So....yeah I need to go over tips and stuff, but I'm still using the dagger/shield combo. I hit up a few online quests but I'm still pretty raw as far as combat goes, I'm sooo used to PSO combat. This is much, much slower, obviously.
Let me know if anyone wants to help the noob out!

why y'all gotta start playing in the middle of the night right before i'm going to bed? >:c
as for "other folks," if you log onto a decently-populated gate, you'll probably get a few rands in your city sooner or later (or you can join someone else's, obviously). and the recruiting server is great for picking up a party quick, especially if you have a specific monster in mind.
[which brings to mind a peeve of mine: lately there seems to be an incredibly disproportionate amount of people who apparently just ignore a city's Goal completely, asking to do Alatreon in a Gobul city and whatnot >:U]
if you want to meet up with a specific person (e.g. a PAer), you'll need to have their player name and/or 6-digit code and run a player search (under menu > online > search > by name or something like that) for them WHILE they're online and their status is not set to 'invisible'. once you meet them you can send a private message with a friend request to register them in your friend roster. after that, you can just look at the roster to see whether any of your friends are online and message/warp to them.
(i don't know how much of this you already know, so i'm trying to cover all the bases. and probably doing a poor job due to tiredness.)

Try and add me next time I post about being on. This typically occurs afternoons and Sundays.
Carrying on the MH4 discussion, I would not be surprised if Capcom opted to go the cheap route and released an 'up-port' of MH3G to the PS3. They more or less did that with Sengoku Basara Samurai Heroes. In fact, if SB:SH was such a test for future projects, I'd welcome it. At least we'd get consistent framerates when there's 2 boss mobs.

For Rathian, you generally want to stay in close and to the side as much as possible, while keeping an eye out for tail swipes. Her most dangerous attack is her tail flip thing, which will only hit you if you're directly in front of her.
If she grabs and chomps you, you have two choices. The first is to immediately throw a dung bomb, which will knock her away. The second is to wait until she's done chomping and is just about to sting you, and throw a dung bomb at the perfect moment. If you do it right, you'll get an easy shiny drop. If you do it wrong or don't manage to escape at all, you'll be in a world of pain, and get an easy shiny drop as a consolation prize.
I should really start playing this again. I haven't played since I rage quited on Barioth. :?

Barroth fills a time honored role in MH3, "teaching players not to overextend themselves"
I thought he was pretty easy honestly, but then again I was using a lance at the time.
I feel like I actually ran into far fewer "brick walls" in MH3 than I did in previous games.

Well, MH3 is my first game in the series and I had issues with Barroth at first. Now I can completely wreck them. But in the end I'm the type of player who rushes headlong into things and learns how to handle something after getting my butt handed to me on a platter a few times.
Also, I completely ignored dung bombs up until now. Guess I need to get to crafting, eh?

I barely ever use dung bombs for getting pounced(usually it means free hits for the rest of your team, and as long as they can stagger if you don't take the final hit) except if I get pounced by Jho because ow that hurts.
Dung bombs make the dual wyvern quests a lot more manageable though.
thats because when a rath pounces you its like aww look this at this cute thing, someone take a picture. a Jho pounce is essentially a guarenteed kill.
