Spitting water is probably a silly move when underwater, anyway.
But yeah, nothing in plessy's repertoire above-water would really translate to anything interesting in an underwater fight, short of some tweaking. I guess he can swim fast and can charge you maybe, but that doesn't sound like a very fun fight.
Lagiacrus has his hip check and a water breath anyway, so Plesioth would be pretty much totally redundant.

It'd be another monster with sleep powers, and could specialize in diving/surfacing attacks, unlike the horizontal-centric leviathans. It's an out-and-out overgrown shark, unlike the serpents of MH3.

Ok guys, I just got a PSP 3000 from Amazon because it was crazy-cheap and now I need some help pushing me over my "I should buy MHFU" hump. MH3 on the Wii was my first ever MH, but I loved it. However, no one else I know at all does. Is MHFU still fun to hit large things with sharp objects solo?

i don't have it, so i can't tell you much about the game, but i can tell you that you need a PS3 to play multiplayer online, so be sure to consider that if you don't have one.

MHFU is a big step back from MH3. It can still be entertaining, but it doesn't look or play as well.

I love MHFU
But going back to the really wonky monster skeletons in MHFU is incredibly difficult after playing MH3. It requires a whole different familiarity with the monsters, because sometimes you'll just get hit even if it looks like you shouldn't have.
That said, it is a heck of a lot of content that can keep you busy 'til the Freedom 3 releases. Concepts are the same, just feels a bit less refined I guess you could say.
Or, if you're cool stumbling through japanese, portable 3 comes out next week (!); so that's an option as well. (Hooray for no region locks)

I'd honestly suggest going for the 'import MHP3rd' option over MHFU at this point.
For all the monsters in MHFU, there's typically a much more refined and interesting version in MHP3rd:
Herbivores, Cats, etc. - back & mildly improved.
Apceros, Fangos - Rhenoplos, Barroth (except the big pig comes back in P3rd too, argh)
Bugs - Bnhabras and Altaroths are WAY less annoying.
Raptors - Jaggi, Baggi, and Froggi
Kut-Ku - Qurupeco
Cephalos - Gobul's freaky desert cousin.
Gypceros - spit 'n run Royal Ludroth, and flash-bulb-happy Gobul (thunder Peco instead in P3rd)
Rathian, Rathalos, and Diablos - return with a complete overhaul
Khezu - Gigginox
Conga/Blango/Rajang - All those new Fanged Beasts, plus Jinouga.
Plesioth - Lagiacrus, Ceadeus for water combat and Deviljho on land.
Gravios - split up into superarmored Urgaaan and fire-laser blasting Agnaktor
Narga Couga - Barioth says hi, despite Couga's portable return
Lao Shan Lung - Totally pwned by Jhen Mohran
Elder Dragons - Alatreon
Ucamulbas - Lost weight, flipped elements to become Agnaktor
Crabs - Screw them, they were amusing briefly but horribly annoying in the long run.
Kirin, Yama Tsukami, and Fatalis are pretty much the only monsters without a much-improved spiritual descendant, and who knows -- Ceadeus is out, so we might get some kind of flying dragon instead.
It's not as though learning the menus is difficult and we all skip through the flavor text anyway (after the first time, at least). Controls are essentially identical to Classic Control Style-1 from MH3; minor improvements have been made to the situational-dependent stuff, actually.
Vid for the gunlance, light bowgun, HH. HH is looking pretty shiny for the new edition.

Ugh, as I predicted, due to the low resolution of the PSP, they didn't bother touching up Tigrex to MH3 standards, but it's obvious that the model and textures look dated by comparison with the rest of the cast.

They shouldn't have bothered putting him back.
Eh, he is still fun to fight. I can't wait to take a crack at black tigrex.

Aye, while his textures and model are something to be desired, I'll at least be happy to kill that meat train over and over again. I always found him a good challenge, and with the (hopefully) updated hitboxes for him, I'll be super happy he won't be cheesing me to death.
Oh, and this guy right here is super happy he'll be getting his copy of MHP3rd on Wed/Thurs!
Wait, did I see that right, you can 'queue up' notes on HH now? That's pretty damn useful!

That was really all they needed to change to make it a much better weapon. Now you can actually fight AND buff at the same time, whereas before you could only reasonably buff in a break from combat or while monsters were distracted by your party.
O_e i hope jinouga shows up in the final boss fight to help/hinder. im hoping a little of both. also its like they changed venues. lagia-jinouga (thunder monsters that seem to be the boss) and then the actual massive dragon.
also, a gigginox sub? seems redundant. khezu.
also, diablos subspecies? what about black blos? or even monoblos and his white sub. unless that is what was meant
los and ian gold and silver subs have existed for a while
then ura seems like a possible barroth to ice move all over again. as with agnak... huh, if they have akantor and uca, whats the point? even since agnak is just a fire redo of lagia... wierd

Though I always wish for new monsters, the ice barroth was diffrent enough to make the fight feel new. I am very much looking forward to what the new subs are going to be like.

The new deal with "subspecies" isn't just higher difficulty, but very different AI and, attributes such as speed, new moves, and an rather different-looking set of textures, if not a tweaked model.
Anyway Jinouga was obviously a 1:1 replacement for lack of Lagiacrus, which anyone who completed Tri's offline knows is pretty much the game's midboss.
It was obvious Ceadeus was going to get a replacement. Even though the battle winds up being easy with correct preparation, it was too an experience to leave the portable players out in the cold. Additionally, I figured we'd get a flying boss so as not to deprive players of the "huge, mobile boss with that spits a tornado"
What we didn't know was whether there would be more sub-species or not, and whether any old monsters would return. If the rumor is true, P3rd will have every pseudo-wyvern in the series (ugh), plus what I think is the INSANELY giant serpent from MHFrontier Online.
