Agh my video game specific ocd is starting to flare up in one of the missions.
MID-GAME SPOILERS
On the first zeratul mission, where's the last zerg hatchery? Blew up the one you first found on the path, then the second one across a gap before the last piece of the prophecy. Where's the last one?

Its really hard to find
It took me reloading my save like twice to find it.
Right before the last prophecy piece, after the Templar helps you out. If teleport across that ledge thats overlooking it. Its like... on the western most part of the screen in the black area thats REALLY small.
Let me know if you need more specific instructions or a screenshot, but its essentially to the southwest of the 3rd prophecy piece.
Orbital Depot or Micro Filtering? Thats a touch decision, though I'm leaning towards micro filtering. On the other hand, late game I usually have more than enough gas but get slowed down by having to wait for supply depots to be built.

no, the game itself runs just fine, but the between-missions stuff randomly gets choppy and it likes to stop responding during loading screens or while saving etc
I went right for brutal difficulty, 9 missions in so far. Since I didn't play normal I can't say if it is that much harder but I'm getting through it. Not knowing what the maps look like makes it more difficult.
I had one cinematic crash, has not happened again.
Starcraft 2 is my first RTS where I've actually played the single-player campaign. I'm liking it a lot so far. It's making me interested in other (more recent) RTS games with good campaigns now, too.

Two problems I've had tech wise with the game. During the "vision-quest campaign" lets call it. The last mission completely chugged once the biggest friendly unit showed up. Also the games default volume for music during cut scenes is way too high.
The New Folsom Prison Breakout. The whole ambience on the Hyperion made me think "Folsom Prison Blues" the entire time i was breaking out murderous convicts.
I'm trying the challenges. Gold'd the Terran and Zerg beginner missions. Yet somehow protoss I completely lose every time. Its horrendous. Best clear on protoss was 40 units lost.

CorriganX on Steam and just about everywhere else.
This is way more awesome than I expected. I'm taken aback at how much time they put into the campaign when it seemed like all effort went into the multiplayer.
Self-righteousness is incompatible with coalition building.

And here I am playing single player and being like, "Fuck, this isn't polished at all compared to multiplayer!"
case in point: void-rays killing anything with armor in less than two seconds.

I saw in the artbook a piece tagged '03. They've been.. working on this one for a WHILE.
I'm so glad they decided to unhook the SP from the MP. Relic's done that in the past, to great effect.. and it really, REALLY leads to a better game experience on both fronts. The MP is balanced and plays like chess, while the SP you get to just fling shit at the wall and see what sticks. It's really fun to know there'll almost always be something around the horizon.

WarHammer 40,000: Dawn of War 1 & 2 & Company of Heroes. Plus all their expansions. All made by Relic. all awesome. best RTS games out there that is not from Blizzard. plus they made a few advances for RTS gameplay i was a little sad to see blizzard not copy.

Damn my life. I'm only on the 5th mission and I have to stop so I can get up early and do this job interview.
And it's not like I don't already have a job. This is for a 'promotion'.
Loving the campaign right now;
UPGRADES!
ACHIEVEMENTS!
VARIABLE DIFFICULTY!
I am in the exact same position, damn attempted career progress.
Anyway, chose to play on hard, early on it hasn't been too, well, hard, though i'm not always hitting all the achievements/bonus goals. Some of that is because they aren't revealed til after the mission. Not sure how the other diffiulties play but this one seems pretty good challenge wise. Also even though the game autodeteced ultra graphics I dropped them to high for a little performance boost, which was disappointing but not unexpected since my computer is 4 years old.

Eh, the only thing I can think of would be cover mechanics, but I don't think StarCraft would "feel" right with cover mechanics.
Great game. The cutscenes really help break up what I would call the monotony of RTS games. I haven't played SC1 in years, I can barely remember it. The Collector's Edition extras are great. The Jim Raynor USB drive w/ SC1+Brood War is an especially nice touch.
The only other RTS games I've been hooked on were Dune 2 and Homeworld. I guess it takes sci-fi to keep me engaged.
Ok, Achievement question - I've played through 9 missions on Hard, and started the campaign on hard. Yet I went back through the mission archive to do the first 5 missions on Brutal. I want the Kerrigan portrait.
Fortunately the 5 missions I did count towards the Kerrigan portrait (I checked in the achievement list and those Missions were green) - however the other achievement (Complete 5 missions on Brutal) is not complete.
Is this a bug or do I have to create a new campaign on Brutal to get those achievements?
Does anyone know how to change your character name?
As briefly and hilariously discussed earlier, for now character name seems to be permanent. This is how, for example, people have ended up with names like "abbb" and "Failburger".

Well, "Failburger" seems pretty cool compared to "Paul".

The first significant thing living here taught me is conformity costs money, and everybody pays.
I was really not digging Ariel as a character--she was ridiculously earnest and cloying. She's been my only character complaint in Wings of Liberty thus far. So I was incredibly and pleasantly surprised when, after you ignore her wishes, she takes desperate measures and triggers horrifying consequences. Well done, Blizzard!

Edit: The Wings of Liberty campaign is totally rad.
Does anyone else think that the last mission of the campaign on hard is like the hardest thing in the whole god damned world?! miles harder than any other mission i've done on hard in the campaign

multiplayer is definitely a full game at this point
extra units to come is just gravy

That's vague enough that I can find it on my own.
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.
the cinematics in this game are probably the best I've seen

and just
never start responding again

Don't we say this every time a Blizzard game comes out? They're seriously pretty though, even in crappy Youtube-o-vision.
I should have also said "ingame" somewhere in there.

True dat. I mean, they've had the engine for as long as they were working on WC3, so...

Well, end of the second day and I have around eleven missions left. I haven't been playing non-stop, but in big chucks.
Just finished the Protoss mini-campaign (not spoilers, it was in the preview) and...
Ha, this series really IS Warcraft in space! Except now the Hybrids are the undead, new baddie is the Lich Lord, and the Zerg are the Orcs...
