Visiting Akihabara

I'm going to be in Tokyo for a couple of days, and I really want to check out Akihabara. Unfortunately, I don't have much time for sightseeing while I'm there. The only times I can go would be late at night (around 11 pm), or in the morning (around 9 am). If I go at either of those times, will there be stuff to see and do? I just want to be sure I'm not going at a time when everything is closing down or nothing's open yet.

I'm kinda sure that stuff will still be open late at night. When I was in Tokyo last year I can remember staying out pretty late (around midnight) most nights with plenty to do. I think the trains stopped at midnight though. I can't really remember.

I would advise against going in the morning. I can also half-remember that lots of places didn't open until 10 in some suburbs. I remember walking around for an hour or two with nothing to do since we got somewhere too early.

Unfortunately Aki shops don't open till 10 or 11 and most close about 8 or 9. There would be maid cafes and so on late at night, but that's all. Maybe bars and restaurants, but Aki doesn't have a lot of classy places - just ramen shops and curry rice places for the otaku to keep their bodies moving.

Yup. Pretty much. All the stores you are going to want to specifically go to Akihabara for (toys, games, electronics, whatev) are not going to be open during your timeframe. Anything that will be open, aside from maybe maid cafes, you could get anywhere else.

That sucks, I was really looking forward to it. Good to know, though. Don't want to waste my limited time for sightseeing. Thanks for the info!
